After a social media debate surrounding the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, snowballed into a larger conversation online, singer Chinmayi Sripaada and her husband, filmmaker-actor Rahul Ravindran, found themselves at the receiving end of extreme online abuse. What began as a disagreement over Rahul's opinion soon escalated into horrifying attacks on their family, with anonymous users allegedly wishing death upon their three-year-old twins.

Breaking her silence, Chinmayi shared an emotional video explaining why the recent wave of hate crossed every imaginable line and why she refuses to stay silent anymore.

How a viral debate turned into personal attacks

The controversy began after Rahul Ravindran reacted to discussions around the Ketan Agarwal-Siya Goyal case. Instead of viewing the incident as proof of a larger issue faced by men, Rahul expressed a different perspective, triggering outrage among sections of social media.

Soon, the criticism shifted away from his opinion and became deeply personal. According to Chinmayi, trolls began targeting not just the couple but also their young children.

In a seven-minute video shared online, the singer revealed that Rahul reached his breaking point after coming across a post that urged others to pray for the death of their son. She said what disturbed him the most was seeing people encouraging others to join in such hateful messages over nothing more than a difference of opinion.

Chinmayi shares screenshots, calls out online hate

A day after posting the video, Chinmayi shared screenshots of several abusive messages she claimed were sent to her family. She alleged that some social media users had been celebrating and encouraging violent comments aimed at her children because of her outspoken views on women's rights and gender issues.

The singer pointed out that she and Rahul are parents to three-year-old twins, Shravas and Driptah, and said it was heartbreaking to see innocent children dragged into online fights.

She also argued that abusive language, misogyny and harassment have become increasingly common on social media, but targeting children should never be normalised. Addressing those attacking her family, Chinmayi said she would no longer respond with silence if her children continued to be threatened.

Rahul Ravindran steps away from X

The controversy has also prompted Rahul Ravindran to distance himself from X, formerly Twitter. Last month, the filmmaker revealed that reading one particular post wishing death upon his child deeply affected him and left him shaken.
