The First Episode of Season 2 of Aamir Khanhosted TV Show Satyamev Jayate, aired in March 2014, was dedicated to Dashrath Manjhi.[14][15][16] Aamir Khan and Rajesh Ranjan also met Bhagirath Manjhi and Basanti Devi, son and daughter-in-law of Manjhi and promised to provide financial help.[17] However, Basanti Devi died due to inability to afford medical care on April 1, 2014. Her husband recently stated that she could have been saved if the promise of help by Aamir Khan had been kept.

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has disappointed the poverty-stricken family of Bihar's 'Mountain Man' Dasrath Manjhi, as neither did he provide financial help to them nor send his team to inquire about their requirements.

Dashrath Manjhi is known for single-handedly cutting through a hill to make a road.

His son Bhagirath is sad and pained after he failed to save his wife Basanti Devi, who died due to lack of medical care last month.

"If hero (Aamir) could have provided financial help as he promised us, my wife may not have died. She died because of our abject poverty. Aamir has proved himself like leaders or officials, who promised help that never reached us," Bhagirath told IANS over the phone of a local NGO member.

Bhagirath said that he managed to perform 'shradh' (a ritual performed after a death) Friday thanks to financial help provided by Bodh Gaya-based People First Educational Charitable Trust.

"It was they (Trust) who spent money to perform my wife's shradh. I have no money to do that," he said.

Aamir Khan, who visited their village for his TV show "Satyamev Jayate" in February, promised to provide financial help to Dashrath's daughter-in-law Basanti and son Bhagirath.

In early March after Aamir's visit hit the headlines, Shafi Ahmad, state co-ordinator of Aamir's production house, said a team would soon visit the Dasrathnagar Dalit tola near Gahlaur in Gaya district, around 100 km from here, on behalf of the actor-filmmaker as he had requested that their requirements be taken care of.

Aamir, during his visit, also assured Bhagirath and Basanti of help. Nearly two months after Aamir promised to help Basanti she died due to lack of proper medical treatment.

Both of them had told Khan that they have been left in the lurch, ignored by politicians and officials despite repeated assurances of help.

Bhagirath said that Basanti's death sent shock waves through the village as it happened despite assurances of help from Aamir.

However, the Trust that helped Bhagirath conduct Basanti's shradh, has opened the Dasrath Manjhi non-formal school in Gahlaur. The school is being run by Basanti's daughter-in-law Laksminiya Devi.

Both Bhagirath and Basanti used to work in the village primary school as cooks for preparing the mid-day meal for children. Both of them were paid Rs.1,000 a month.

Working day and night, Dasrath Manjhi had single-handedly carved out a 360 feet long, 30 feet high and 30 feet wide passage through a hill near Gahlaur with a hammer and chisel. He died in 2007 after battling cancer.

The hill was between Attari and Wazirgunj blocks in Gaya district. Manjhi began his uphill task when his wife was injured and he had to take a detour around the mountains to reach the nearest hospital.

No surprise. Aamir is the biggest faker around.

Another one making money in the guise of moral lectures for the rest of the world. How many crores does he make per episode of Satyamev Jayate? All those crocodile tears he sheds on that show to prove what a good guy he is.

I would rather have these people just be quiet and do their own acting work and stop pretending to be more.

And this is surprising because..? Aamir Khan doesn't care two hoots for beggars outside his own house. I admire the SMJ initiative but that hardly changes his personal approach towards anything. The only thing wrong about this is that it sounds like he made that promise in official capacity and hence it should've been fulfilled.

Leave Aamir what about the viewers that watched this episode? None of them came forward to help these people? What about the donations that was raised in each epi ? Where did that go ? What was the whole point of this TV show that whole of India would sit and watch every freaking sunday and have endless debates and discussion over? Just to raise the trps and then go back to having a lazy sunday ?

Some actors just love to play with the people emotions. Charity ke naam bus trp aur publicity chaiyea. I would still held local government responsible because they need to take care of people. they should take action on such Celebs who collect money in the name of charity and then use it for their own benefits.

People want to feel good without actually doing any work or giving any money.

So they watch shows like Satyamev Jayate and talk endlessly about what needs to improve in India. Same type of people who constantly post on facebook about people with cancer and other problems and "like" posts to pray for the families.

Mission accomplished. They feel good about what good people they are and without actually doing any work or contributing any money.

Aamir is another Fake! A Conman!
His SMJ was just a program to promote his own image as a Messiah which will be projected in his movie roles and make them superhits!

No doubt the episodes revealed in-depth information abt many issues facing Indian society at present but as soon as cameras turned off the initiative vanished.

I wonder what happened to all the money that was collected for each organization. Wasnt Reliance Foundation also contributing? ALL OF THEM ARE FAKES and CONMEN! 😡

Everything went into some middleman's pocket I bet...and nobody bothered to find out if it reached the really needy people.
