I have seen this debate on IF...about Khans still being popular because new generation is not able to match up. Is this true?

Also, what about the generation between Khans and current lot, who are 20 years younger? only Hrithik Roshan was successful in that generation...rest all failed MISREABLY like Abhishek, John, Uday Chopra, Tushar Kapoor etc. The actresses like Rani and Preity were good but they never had Madhuri's popularity or all-round appeal.

And what about this new generation...can they change the trend? Varun, Sid, ranbir etc. and among girls DP,kangana are all very very popular. But can they match upto the Khans and Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar etc.?

it is worrying when even a dark horse of a film like Dhrishyam with last generation's Ajay and Tabu makes more money than many other films this year.

So...do you guys think new generation

(those born between 1980 and 1995) are being accepted? Or will they face same fate as the 2000 wala generation and Khans will continue to laugh all the way to the bank?

These new stars need lots of legendary/super successful movies to get as accepted as Khans and others.

What about Ranbir, he had Barfi, Rockstar and many more...but people are now writing him off because of 3 back to back flops

Yes! They are getting moderate success!

But if you mean being superstar, they are not there yet!

Yup...I am referring to superstar label only. Like, SRK and Salman becamse superstars in 90's and Anil and Jackie Shroff in 80's. What about the 2000's?

Nope . these new gen stars lack the charm of yesteryears superstars! It will take ages for them to reach the status of Khans!

Its Ranbir Kapoor according to me who is accepted. I have seen all his movies so far and sometimes I may not admire the movies, but his acting skills never cease to amaze me. Whatever the role is, he acts with utmost perfection and gives his best shot depicting that he can fit into any role of any kind. People wouldn't have imagined Ranbir Kapoor in the role of a street fighter, Johnny Balraj (Bombay Velvet) but he portrayed the character so precisely that everyone reviewing the movie didn't forget to applaud Ranbir for his commendable performance. People often say negative things about him too but that is because they judge the movie. If they don't like the movie, they don't like the actor. He experiments and is willing to take risks too.

New generation is doing fairly well. They're not at that superstar stage yet though, the seniors are still ruling. Let the next few years go by and we'll have a clearer picture of who can become a superstar.

Offscreen persona is incredibly important however to reach that superstar level. Not just acting talent and box office success. That's where i think these days Ranbir is failing, he had a lot of charm in the earlier years but lately he's losing it.
