Salman Khan's lawyer contended before the Bombay High Court that none of the eye-witnesses in the hit-and-run case involving the actor said that he was driving the car.

Salman Khan's lawyer Amit Desai today argued that the entire case was based on circumstantial evidence.
There is no evidence from the testimony of the 27 witnesses that show that Salman Khan was one driving the vehicle on the fateful September night in 2002 when his car rammed into street dwellers in Hill Road, Bandra, the actor's lawyer argued in the Bombay High Court Wednesday.
He also argued that it was "tragic" that the prosecution had not examined Kamal Khan, a key witness in the 2002 hit-and-run case.A trial court had May 6 sentenced the actor to five years' rigorous jail term on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which was suspended by the high court. The high court now is hearing the actor's appeal against the sentence.
In the court of Justice A R Joshi, senior lawyer Amit Desai continued from where he had left during the last hearing.
Instead of relying on the testimonies of the 27 witnesses and examining eyewitness Kamal Khan, Desai argued, the prosecution was adamant on bringing the evidence of Dr Sanap, who now lives in the US. Dr Sanap had conducted the post mortem of Nurullah, who died inthe accident. He argued the prosecution wants to bring on record the evidence of Salman's police bodyguard Ravindra Patil " who had filed the FIR in the case and had later died. Desai also maintained that nothing from the testimony of Rajendra Kadam, the cop who recorded Patil's FIR, showed that no efforts were made to trace Kamal Khan.
