Before Dec. 19, 1894
"A general belief seems to prevail in the Colony that the Indians are little better, if at all, than savages or the Natives of Africa. Even the children are taught to believe in that manner, with the result that the Indian is being dragged down to the position of a raw Kaffir." ~ Vol. I, p. 193
Anyway, what buggers me is why Mahatma Gandhiji recruited Indians for both the World Wars and asked Indians to fight for the British side who made us slaves and kill German side who had done us no harm.
Yet he asked Indians to practise satyagraha against the British. To explain Satyagraha, Gandhi used to say, "A Satyagrahi should expect to get killed by an aggressor and not to kill him".
And to those who say that his thought process changed. ... well, he was already famous before he came to India for his non-violence
When Gandhi left South Africa for Indian the entire world's main stream media announced that Jan Christiaan Smuts, said " THE SAINT HAS LEFT OUR SHORES ".
I think if we are to truly follow in the great Mahatma's footsteps we must disband our army and nuclear weapons/missiles and in case a neighbouring country, Pakistan or China attacks us, we must not hurt them but give them love.
Gandhiji had said " If blood be shed, let it be our own. Let us cultivate the calm courage to die without killing."
