Chapter 8

'Brij veerji' Geet cried running to her brother's embrace, for the last three days Geet didn't bother to step out. She locked herself and cried her heart out in the dark confines of her room. She hated Maan, she hated Dev for not trusting her and she hated her life. Dev was meant to be with her through thick and thin, then why wasn't he standing with her now, maybe they were not just meant to be. He left her half way, not even questioning or asking about the reality. But right now all she wanted was to cry to her brother, to tell him about everything that happened, to tell him that she wanted to move back. To ask him to voice out for accusation that were thrown on his sister. But nothing as such would happen, Maan had already informed Naina who broke the news to Brij immediately fabricating a story where Maan and Geet loved each other and how Geet broke her engagement with Dev. Although Brij was shocked, he still couldn't believe the news. He knew his sister would never cheat on someone, especially now when fainted in his arms.

'It's nothing to worry about' the doctor said after examining Geet. He then went on to explain that exhaustion and the lack of food had affected Geet's health scaring Brij. Maan was worried but nothing too major to disturb his demeanour. He got what he wanted and that was Dev for his sister, Anni. No one cared or even bothered to care for Geet or her brother who spent the night with his sister, wondering what exactly went wrong. Brij called Dev numerous time to sort out the differences but the latter never picked up, finally Brij gave up later in the night and took care of Geet who still didn't regain consciousness. The next morning Brij decided to meet Dev in person but Maan stopped him feigning some business issue so both drove towards the office instead.

It was late in the afternoon when both the brother's came back home. This was considered early but each had worries of their own due to their sister's. Maan because Anni called sounding urgent and Brij, his sister was too ill and his wife didn't bother to call him or inform him about anything in regards to Geet.

'Bhai Dev doesn't even want to see me, until Geet isn't out of his life he wouldn't be able to move on' Anni stressed nearly in tears. Maan, Anni and Naina where in the study trying to think of ways to get Dev closer to Anni but Dev had other plans which included him going back to America. Anni tried her best to change his mind but there was no improvement. Dev was drowned his Geet's thoughts and was in a miserable state. While the three Khuranna's where at the Khuranna mansion plotting, the Handa's where in the Outhouse crying.

'Mujhe ghar jana he veerji' Geet cried telling Brij all that happened while he was gone. Brij didn't know why Maan did what he did? But was sure his baby sister wasn't lying. However he was unsure, if Maan liked Geet why didn't he just simply tell her, not that he would accept the alliance after all Maan was a criminal and Geet, well she was as innocent as there can be. It was no match but why point fingers at Geet's character and better yet why not just threaten Dev to back off, that would have done the trick considering Maan and his army. While Brij was busy trying to work out Maan's scheme, Geet got ready to leave but before that she needed to clear the air with Dev. If he wanted out of this relationship, then so be it but not without Geet clearing her name. She had self-respect and nothing or no one was given the opportunity to slander that pristine image. Maan however can go to hell, she knew he did it intentionally and for that she would never forgive him.

'Wow and you accuse me of cheating' Geet taunted Dev seeing him in Anni's embrace. Dev was silently crying and Anni was comforting him knowing well that Geet would be here soon according to the resources that were paid to follow her. Geet was shocked and stultified, if Dev was with Anni then why shift the blame on her.

'If you two wanted to be together, you should have just asked. There was no need for all this game or the drama' she said in a broken voice, her fiance was two-timing with her friend Anni and he wasn't man enough to accept hence he painted her as cheat.

'Don't you dare' Dev shouted finding his lost voice, how dare she allege him of indecency when she was the one who broke his heart never to mend. Both the broken hearts blamed each other, Dev and Geet stood there looking at each other for their world stood still. The pain, the agony and the betrayal evident in each other's eye. When it got too much, Geet ran back to the car hugging Brij and asking him to turn back. Brij had agreed to Geet meeting Dev thinking that maybe, just maybe everything will return to normal once the misunderstanding was cleared but now he regretted his decision. Dev ran after Geet, for some unknown reason he knew she was innocent but Anni stopped him before he reached the threshold.

Maan saw Geet running back to the outhouse in a disbelieved way, his heart tore at places but he kept calm and went back inside. He just didn't understand why Geet being miserable was affecting him, he was happy that Anni got her love but Geet not getting hers or him not having her in his arms was rubbing onto him. Maan kicked and punched but still Geet's image never left him. Has he done right by doing this his conscious questioned but it was soon silenced when Anni came running to him in tears. Initially he was shocked to know that Geet assumed Anni and Dev were having an affair but then he liked the idea, so they plotted again to wedge this depression for both their lovers. With a evil smirk, Maan cleaned himself and exited the gym calling Naina to inform her about the rest of the plan.

'Brij I can't believe it, Geet looks innocent but baap re baap she is one cunning fox. First Dev then my brother. Whoa got to hand it to her, not everyone has the guts to fool Maan Singh Khurrana, yet she not only played him but also her fiance wow' Naina boasted playing with fire early next morning. Brij was in a foul mood and Naina talking rubbish wasn't making situation any better. Geet cried all last night and it was decided that today she would travel back to Hosyarpur and Nakul kaka there would look after her until Brij sorts out an arrangement.

'Don't ignore me Brij, tum janti ho that your sister is a characterless tramp' Naina shouted getting angry. It was compulsory for Brij to pay attention or else their plan would be futile and Anni would cry to death, which no sister wanted.

'Naina' Brij shouted louder raising his hand

'Kya mujhe, mujhe Naintara Khurrana pe harth uttaw ge' Naina sniggered knowing well that Brij wasn't man enough especially with her brother and his guards being so close. But it wasn't that Brij was scared, he just loved Naina too much to ever hurt her. Something Naina knew and took advantage of.

Geet heard them quarrel from her room and decided to announce her departure thinking that maybe with her gone, their feud would end. Plus with each passing day she felt uncomfortable here. With determination she hurried her steps only to collide with hard object. Maan who had just walked into the outhouse in a rush bumped into the running Geet. Maan froze seeing her so close after so long and Geet, she felt disgust feeling him so close. This man ruined her existence yet she lived still under his room, well not for long.

'Don't you dare touch me' she raged and with that she pushed him off hard hitting her hand on the wall in the process. But she didn't flinch, the last thing she wanted was this man to think she's weak. Maan watched Geet walk back to her room, slowly and graciously which surprised him since she always ran away but needless to say somethings changed, and Geet for one had definitely changed and he was the cause. Maan felt a sharp prickling sensation in his heart seeing her hurt both physically and mentally but he could do nothing but stare. If only he could turn back the clock, he would have made sure Dev never entered their lives but it was too late for remorse now.

'Bhai Dev's going back to America tonight' Anni cried feeling frustrated, her brother promised to get Dev for her and Maan always delivered but what happened this time she thought aloud accusing him for raising her hopes. Maan sat there caressing Anni's hair, life seemed to get too complicated, what the brother and sister duo thought would be a simple fantasy turned out to be an ugly reality.

'Geet's going back to Hosyarpur today Bhai' Naina shouted barging into Anni's bedroom making the other two siblings fret.

'What is happening?' Maan groaned feeling angry for his failed plan. Just yesterday they hatched a new plan but only for it to fall apart the next morning. Fresh tears ran down Anni's face, she had no other option but to cry at her lost fate. She just knew with both Dev and Geet gone, there will be a high chance of them reuniting. Anni could endure anything but being separated from Dev. No, never, not anymore. She needed a master stroke and that she'll deliver even if her 'bhai' Maan can't, she promised herself.

'Marry Geet Bhai' she demanded shocking the puppeteer and his aid.
