CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Everything was set and everyone was excited except the person the engagement was meant for. He mother wanted to invite everyone but Ishita wanted something small and thus only close friends and family were invited. It was her only request so her mother reluctantly agrees.

Mihika was more excited than Ishita herself because she knew who the guy was unlike Ishita but given Ishita didn't tell her about the events of what happened between them, her opinion of Raman was still the same as before.

Everyone was here to wish her well and also be there for her. Raman and his family had arrived and she could tell because of the way Mihika came running into her room

'Ishu we need to get you ready because they are here...'' Said Mihika as she extended and hugged Ishita

But she was too lost in thought to even process what was happening. She wanted to just roll back in bed and cry because this is not the way she saw herself ever getting married. She figured since her parents had so persistently vouched for this man then he must have been a good man but there was just one small problem, she was in love with another.

She hugged Mihika back tighter as she struggled to fight back the tears. Mihika held her some more and questionably looked at her trying to find out if she was okay but Ishita smiled back and said

'So... Are you going to do my make up or should I do it myself...''

'Oh God No... We don't want to send away our groom to be. Here let me get some stuff from the other room then I will come and do your make up...'' Said Mihika as she walked away

Ishita turned and looked in the mirror not believing she was about to do something like this. This was illogical and even she knew it but no matter how unreasonable, she would always do everything in her power to please her parents and if they thought this was right, then it was.

She looked at Mihika's phone that she had left behind and as hard as she tried not to do anything, she couldn't stop herself. She wanted to hear his voice one more time before all this; she wanted to just talk to me, maybe even tell him she had forgiven him so she picked up the phone and dialled his number

'Ring... Ring...'' the phone went off

Raman had had a very bad night. He didn't quite know how to deal with everything and how it had panned out and so ended up going out that night. He thought maybe it would at least get his mind off of whatever was happening but it just made it worse. He ended up drinking so much and forgetting it was his engagement. His brother came and picked him up from the bar that morning to try and make sure that he at least got to the function in better shape.

He was so hang over or even a tad drunk it was difficult to tell given how miserable he looked. Romi and Simmi pumped him with as much coffee as they could get but he still looked horrendous. They made an excuse and Raman ended up riding with Simmi to the function. They got there and Shagun and Shlok took over.

They took him to one of the rooms in the house with Mihika's help only to realise that it was Ishita's room. He had been in that house for a while because they got there without Raman's or Ishita's parents knowing.

When he heard his phone buzz Shagun tried to take it away from him but he wouldn't let her. He pulled away and stumbled sitting on the bed as he answered

Hello...'' He said

Ishita held her breath and wanted to say something but it was like the words were coming out only to hit a road block when they got to her throat. She held that phone as she placed her hand on her mouth to fight back the tears.

'Hello... Is anyone there...'' He said but she didn't answer and just hang up

She had heard someone make their way into the room and she decided to hand up as she didn't want him to hear someone call her. Her mother came in and told her to try and get ready while she handed her what she was to wear when the function began

Meanwhile Shagun and Shlok had managed to get Raman into the room and whether or not Raman was in that state, he had to talk to Ishita but they had to first make sure that he sobered up a little. Shagun went to grab the coffee while Shlok made his way to go see Ishita and try and convince her about talking to Raman.

'hey...'' said Shlok when he saw Ishita

'Oh hello... Thank you for coming ...'' She said as she stood up to go and hug him

'Yeah glad to be here although I can't believe you didn't tell me you're getting engaged. Come on...'' he said as he let go of the hug

'I am sorry but I knew if I told you, you would try to talk me out of it.'' She said

'So you do know that this is absurd and ridiculous'' Said Shlok

'Yeah well it is complicated...'' she said

'Come on Ishu, how is marrying some stranger... Okay tell me do you even know who you're getting married to...'' Said Shlok hoping she at least tried to find out

'No... But that is not important...'' She answered as she tried to avoid the topic

'What do you mean not important? What if you do not like him?'' he said

'I will grow to do so. I am used to compromising Shlok this won't be any different...'' Said Ishita and Shlok knew all too well what she was talking about

'Listen you cannot seriously begin talking like that. Maybe something didn't work out at first but you are also not giving it a chance to grow...'' Said Shlok only for her to interrupt him

'No... I refuse to talk about anything now... Please respect that... Be my friend and respect that...'' She said as she fought back her tears

'He is here you know...'' said Shlok

'Who is here...?'' Said Ishita as she cleared her eyes from the glaring tears that were threatening to stream down

'Raman...He is here...'' Said Shlok and Ishita looked at him taking a deep breath as her heart began to pound

'Why...'' she finally managed to say

'Because I am being a good friend to you like you have, on so numerous times, been for me. Just talk to him and make sure that this is a closed chapter in your life. He is down the hall in Mihika's room...'' Said Shlok

'What do you mean down the hall in Mihika's room? This is Mihika's room...'' She said

'Well whose room is down the hall...'' Said Shlok

'Mine...'' Said Ishita shaking her head as she looked at Shlok

'Why did you do that?'' she added

'Closure... Make sure your done with him otherwise you're going to get engaged to someone completely new who will end up being a marriage which is so loveless and both of you are just going to be miserable. Go see him, there is no harm in that...'' Said Shlok as he left Ishita there to ponder

Meanwhile Shagun had gone down to the kitchen and taken the pot of coffee that Mihika had handed her and walked back into that room. They wanted to make sure they got him to sober up and be ready for this talk or at least the engagement. She walked in and she could see he had fallen asleep the bed. She tried to pull him up asking him to get up and have coffee

'Raman, come on... You need to get up...'' she said

'Hhhmmm...'' Said Raman

'Come on...'' Said Shagun again

Meanwhile Ishita had decided to follow Shlok's advice. He was right; she needed to put this to bed and needed to talk to him. She got up and made her way down the hall way to her room where they had taken Raman

Shagun still struggled to pull Raman in and try and feed him some coffee but he was making it difficult. Meanwhile Raman was so out of his mind that when he pulled himself up with the help of Shagun, he was seeing Ishita instead.

He tried to touch her face but Shagun held his hand saying

'Oh God Raman what are you doing... Just sit still...'' she said

'Please just... I am so sorry...'' Raman Said

Raman just kept on looking at her while all the while he was envisioning Ishita and all he wanted to do was just kiss her. He put his hand and pulled Shagun into him and as she tried to push him away, they both stumbled falling on the bed and Shagun falling awkwardly on top of him didn't anticipate when he leaned in and kissed her.

Ishita who had made her way down the hall made her way to the door and all she could see was Shagun on top of Raman and him and her kissing. She turned around and looked away almost as if she couldn't quite stomach what she had seen. She put her hand on her mouth to stop herself from screaming and placed her hand on her heart as if she was trying to hang on to the crumbing pieces it had broken into. She could see the workers who were planning the occasion look at her and she didn't want to create any scenes.

Ishita ran into her room and closed her door sliding down as she broke down in tears and cried. She couldn't believe her eyes; she couldn't understand how they would do something like that.

They had their differences yes but he was supposed to be the love of her life, he was supposed to be the one person to love her and never hurt her, at least not that way. And her best friend, how could she, how could they do something like that.

It felt like someone had sucked the life out of her as she struggled to breathe through her tears and sobs. As she tried to process what the was happening there was a bang on the door

'Ishita beta please open the door, we need to get you ready, it is your engagement day remember,'' said Mrs. Iyer

'Oh ho mama she could be in there with...'' said Mihika laughingly as she tried to tease her sister thinking Shagun and Shlok had done their job

'Huh Haan mama just a minute I am coming...'' said Ishita trying so hard not to express her emotions in her voice

She got down from where she was sitting and walked over to the mirror was and as she cleaned the makeup that had smudged due to the tears, she made a vow

They were going to pay, for every pain and humiliation she felt they were going to pay; she was going to ensure that they felt exactly the way she did for this abhorrent betrayal.

Her mother and sister walked in and hugged her, her mother kept on saying something but all Ishita could hear were echoes. It was like she was in a trance and won't even quite aware of what was happening. Mihika said something and then grabbed the dress she was supposed to wear and handed it to her.

Ishita dressed up and while the two women in the room were all excited, she was instead lost in her own world as that moment kept on playing in her head like a broken CD while she tried to play back everything that happened when they were still at school and it was slowly beginning to make sense.

The senile comments from Shagun, her sudden outburst when Ishita and Raman went out, her blatantly disrespect for Shlok especially when Raman was there, her bad behaviour when it came to Shlok and Ishita and her behaviour after the kiss at the party, It all made perfect sense. This had been going on for a while.

'Ishu... Ishita '' Called Mihika

'So have you two made up...'' She added

'What...'' Ishita said as if she was just noticing Mihika in the room

'I mean with Raman, Have you two made up... It is like 45 minutes until your engagement.'' Said Mihika

'What do you mean our engagement...'' Said Ishita

'Yes... Your engagement with Raman ...'' Said Mihika

'Wait a minute I am getting engaged to Raman?'' Said Ishita shocked

'Wait I thought you two sorted your stuff out and Shlok told me everything was now fine that he and Shagun had sorted it out. Am I missing something ...'' Said Mihika

'She is sorted something out alright... So he really is the guy I am getting engaged to your sure...'' She said and Mihika who was surprised that she didn't believe her told her about the whole Raman meeting her at school down to the story of her meeting him before the function began.

'He was supposed to tell you this...'' Said Mihika

'Where is Mom? Was she aware of this...'' Said Ishita

'Mom walked out like 5 minutes ago and No she wasn't. Where is your attention anywhere...'' Said Mihika

'Nowhere... Just help me fix my makeup. I have an engagement to attend.'' Said Ishita in a demeanour that had changed even Mihika could sense something was off

Meanwhile back in the room, when Raman placed his lips on Shagun, she tried to push him off but she instead she kept falling back down that if someone saw them from the door angle, a lot of misunderstanding would have been interpreted as true.

She finally arched back until she pulled herself away from him, and she stood up looking at the door that was slightly open. It felt like someone had seen them but when she walked to the door and saw that on one was there, she sighed with relief and locked it, walking back to Raman who was sitting on the bed.

I am so...'' but before he could complete she raised her hand and

'Smack...''Shagun slapped him that it slightly brought him back to his senses

'What the hell is the matter with you?'' Said a very pissed off Shagun

I am sorry... Oh God I can't believe I did that...'' He said as he run his hands through his face

'I have just got on the right track with Shlok and I do not want to mess it up and also more importantly Ishita doesn't deserve this. You are going to get up and go into that bathroom, freshen up and come back out and shove this coffee down your throat or so help me God I will forcefully feed it to you.'' Said Shagun who was still pissed

Raman looked at her and she was a bit scary and looked like she wasn't interested in knowing whatever he had to say so he obliged and walked to the bathroom. He took about 5-10 minutes there before he got back out and took all the coffee they had offered him.

Shlok came in and told them to get ready and walk out the back door as the function was about to start and Romi was running out of things to lie as to where Raman was. He was taken through the back and he walked into the room with Simmi making an excuse about having a wardrobe malfunction. His parents didn't buy it but they figured he had gone to meet Ishita so they didn't push it.

Ishita was well prepared by her sister with very minimal makeup and an amazing sari that was gifted to her by her mother. She came down the stairs and she could see Raman's dad standing next to a woman who had tears in her eyes and she figured it had to be his mother. They both had tears in their eyes and one would tell they were delighted with this proposal more than their son.

Her mother and father were all smiles with her mother a bit teary but one could tell she was proud as a peacock. As Ishita finally made it down the stairs, it was the first time she had come face to face with him after the day at the college parking lot. He extended his hand to help her get up to sit with him but she didn't take it something that didn't go unnoticed by Mihika.

She sat down next to him and Raman took his seat next to her and together they began greeting people who kept on congratulating them and wishing them all the best and happiness. Romi walked to her with Ally congratulating her about the day and Ishita had an idea. When Romi and Ally walked away, Ishita called the waiter and whispered

'Make sure she has a drink in her hand at all times...'' before she turned and began greeting people again. Raman looked at the curiously but didn't push the issue.

Ishita who would smile at everyone and try and be as humble as she could possibly even it if was getting harder and harder by the minute. Each time Raman tried to take her hand in his she wanted to just scream and throw up. She was filled with so much rage and pain and yet there was nothing she could do to try and reduce that rage.

It had been a while and their friends and family all wished them the best and all this while Ishita kept it together. Every time Raman would try and provoke her to speak she would just put on a faint smile if people were around and look away or she would just ignore him all together. Shlok and Shagun finally made it to where they were and Shlok said

'Finally we are here... I cannot believe that you two are getting married.''

'Well not yet... Technically she has to say yes first...'' Said Raman holding his breath but still Ishita didn't say a thing but instead just kept on staring at Shlok

'Why are you looking at me like that...'' Said Shlok letting out a small laugh but he could see her demeanour slowly change almost as if she wanted to cry

'Ishu what is wrong...'' Said Shagun but Ishita just ignored her and stood up taking Shlok into her arms and hugging him

'Arre... What is wrong...'' He said a bit worried as he hugged her back

'I am so sorry... You do not deserve this... I am so sorry for it all...'' She whispered in his ear before she let go walked away

'What the hell was that all about...'' Asked Shagun

'I am not sure...'' He answered as he looked at her absentmindedly

'Was she crying...'' Said Raman

'Yes I think so... I don't get it, I thought you two talked to each other and sorted it out.'' Said Shlok but Shagun and Raman just looked at each other and no one answered

Ishita walked over to where Ally was taking her hand as she walked her out of the room back upstairs. Ally had a very low tolerance for alcohol and got drunk very easily something Ishita was depending on. She become very chatty when she got drunk and Ishita figured if there was anyone who knew anything about Shagun and Raman, it was her.

Raman looked around the room and he could see Ishita was nowhere to be found and it had been a while since he had seen her. He got up from his seat and he could see she was coming back from upstairs with Ally who could barely stand up. Romi came and helped taking Ally away as Ishita walked back into the room greeting people.

Raman got up from his seat and followed Ishita to where she was standing and politely whisked her away taking her taking her to the part of the house that was less noisy.

'Ishita we need to talk...'' he said but she just kept quiet and looked at him

'Look I know I have hurt you and I apologize with all my heart I am so sorry. I love you so much and I know right know it may not seem like much to you but I do and I really want to marry you but I won't force you if you don't want me to.'' He said but she just kept quiet

'Will you please say something. I need to hear you say something, anything. I don't know what you're thinking it is very hard to read you. But I do know that if you didn't want to marry me you wouldn't have showed up today or kept up this facade the minute you found out it was me so this gives me hope that it... Even you are willing to work it through...'' He added but she just kept looking at him and he didn't know what to think because her face was not giving a lot away

Simmi walked to where they were smiling as she said

'Hey guys it is time...'' before she walked away leaving them there

Ishita walked a head of Raman as soon as Simmi left not saying anything and Raman just stood there nodding his head not sure what was about to happen in the next few minutes but she suddenly turned and said

'Is there anything you want to tell me Raman...''

'What...'' He said surprised

'I am giving you leeway and asking you, is there anything you would like to tell me. I will not hold it against you for as long as you're honest with me. I will understand believe me I just want you to be honest. I need for you to think long and hard before you answer because the answer your going to give me will be a determinant as to whether or not I trust you.'' She said again and Raman looked at her walked to where she was standing and took her hand in his and said

'I love you... Right now in this moment nothing else matter but you. So all I have to say is please marry me and I will make you the happiest you have ever been. I am no saint but I will do better'' He said thinking she was still talking about the restaurant incident and she teary eyed looked at him before she turned to her heels and walked back into the room

Raman still wasn't quite sure how to take all this. She was acting strange and weird and he stupidly hadn't still put the pieces together. One can love as hard as they can hate and Raman was about to find out how it felt to be at the receiving end of the latter because in that moment all Ishita deduced was that he was a liar and a cheat and all she had on her mind was revenge although it was better said than done. They made it to the room and everyone had gathered around

'Here come the people of the hour...'' Said Mrs. Bhalla as they walked over to the centre of the room everyone looking at them

'Raman...'' Called Mr. Bhalla causing Raman to turn and take Ishita's hand in his as he bend down on one knee and said

'I am not going to stand here, well kneel in this case and lie to you that I am the best thing that ever happened to you because that would be a lie but a truth would be you're the best that has happened to me. I am not going to lie that I will be the perfect partner but I will do everything in my power to make sure I am the best version of myself for you. I love you more than I have ever loved anyone or anything and I know right now...'' he said holding it as his voice began to break and his eyes become glass teary something that surprised Ishita and Shagun as well

'I know right now you do not like me very much and your second guessing everything rightly so but I do promise that I will love you so hard for the both of us until you learn and remember that on time you did feel something for me. I know that because I know you felt it too. As I kneel down with my heart laid bare I ask you, WILL YOU MARRY ME...'' He finally managed to get it all out

There were silent gasps in the room almost as if no one saw such a proposal coming. It was weird and bizarre especially to those who had no idea what he was talking about and yet it was one the sweetest things most of them had ever witnessed. Mr and Mrs. Bhalla stood there in awe of their son and it was clearly written on their faces how proud they were of their son.

Simmi and Mihika were standing together holding hands as they had found the whole things so damn romantic not to get all mushy. Shlok smiled happy for his friend and he understood exactly what Raman must have been feeling. He turned to Shagun and took her hand in his pulling her into him as he leaned in and placed a kiss on her forehead. Shagun all the while was just looking at Shlok and when he turned to look at her she realised for the first time in a very long time that he was still the same Shlok she had known three years ago, the same Shlok who had loved her unconditional and selflessly for three years.

All of a sudden she had this overwhelming guilty sweep over her and she put her arms around him as she began to tear up. It was like Raman was talking for her because everything he said to Ishita she just wanted to say to Shlok and maybe more. She had betrayed him in so many ways she didn't even know if he found out she would ever be able to make it up to him.

Ishita looked at Raman and he was staring at her with a smile on his face and tears in his eyes and she was finding it difficult to even understand how he could stand there ready to get engaged with her after everything. If she didn't know what he did one would think he was telling the truth and maybe he was but right now she wasn't so sure?

She wanted to tell him to take his proposal and shove it, she was hurting and she was pissed but when she looked up she could see her mom and dad tears in their eyes and their faces filled with pride. She couldn't do this to them, she needed a plan B and she had to think fast.

'Ishita won't you give an answer...'' He mother said

'Haan...'' she said as she turned to him and said

'Get up...'' and Raman obliged

'I will say yes on one condition...'' she said looking at the Bhallas

'Okay anything...'' Said Mr. Bhalla who Ishita knew would do anything for his son

'We get married after 8 weeks because I still have to do my internship in order to graduate.'' She said

'Okay that we can do right...'' Said Raman who was getting excited because this seemed positive

'Sure anything else...'' Said Mr. Bhalla

'Well seeing as Raman will be doing his in Mumbai I was wondering if I could also do mine there. It gives us more time to spend together and also I get to know more about that part of his world.'' She said so convincingly one would think she was saying the truth

'Oh that can be arranged...'' Said Mrs. Bhalla

'Oh and one more thing, I really wanted my best friend Shagun to come with me. She and I do everything together and I was just hoping that you could make one more space for her. I will do anything for you as I know she and I are friends always...'' Said Ishita as tears filled her eyes

Mr. and Mrs. Bhalla were in awe because in their eyes she was asking for things to make sure that she will be able to love their son and also selfless enough to think about her friends. Even her own parents where quite impressed because no one saw the Shagun card coming even Shlok was surprised but Shagun who knew Ishita better than everyone in that room knew something was off. She knew that something was about to go unbelievable wrong and she began to fear for the worst

'Is that all? Count it as done...'' She said

'Okay then, my answer is yes...'' She said as she turned to Raman as he picked her up and hugged her

Everyone congratulated her being happy for her and when Shagun walked over to where Ishita was, she had this nervous smile on her face and when Ishita turned and looked at her, she leaned in and hugged her whispering

'Let the games begin...''

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

The engagement was done, all the formalities were handled and Ishita, Raman and Shagun all headed to Mumbai to begin their internships. Ishita in all honesty was just using this as a way to kill almost three birds with one stone; she would get her internship done, avenge her humiliation and also use this as an opportunity to get a job elsewhere.

Shagun had all sorts of missed feelings about this because she wasn't quite sure what to expect from these 8 weeks. She and Ishita had not spoken since the engagement and so this trip scared her. She just held her breath and hoped that one of her worst fears would not be recognised.

Raman was just elated; he had spent most of the time planning his and Ishita's stay while in Mumbai. He had not spent any time with her alone and every time he met her she was with family and what he failed to understand was that it was deliberate from Ishita's part.

Shlok already had a residence in Mumbai and his father's company being their meant it just become easy or at least he thought. He would get to spend some time with his girl and also his friends plus it gave him an opportunity to do that thing he had been meaning to do since the semester started.

They all got their and settle in and Shlok wanted to make them feel welcome and so he called a get together for them. He called all of them over to his place for a drink or two before deciding to all go out that night.

Mihika who had come to help Ishita get settled also decided to stay back on Shlok and Ishita's insistence. They went out that night, had a lot of fun and they decided to all go back to Raman and Ishita's place.

Ishita grabbed whatever alcohol she could find in that house and brought it to the living room where everyone was hanging out

'Whoa Ishita what has gotten into you...'' Said Shlok let out a soft laugh

'Yeah she has been acting strange for the last couple of days...'' Said Mihika

'Let me help you there...'' Said Raman as he got up to go help her but she instead said

'NO... I got it...''

She poured tequila in a glass and handed it to Shlok as she said

'Here you are going to need this...'' She said

'Okay...'' Said Shlok as he chugged the tequila down asking

'Anything else...'' but she just looked at him and tearing up she said

'I know you might really hate me after what I am about to say but I can't hold it together anymore...'' before she completely broke down

'Ishita...'' Called Mihika

'Ishita are you okay...'' Said Raman as he came forward and tried to hold her but she said

'Don't touch me...''

'Ishu what is happening...'' Said Shlok

'I am so sorry but I just can't... I have... Oh God this is going to hurt you so badly...'' She said looking at Shlok before she got up and grabbed the tequila bottle

'What is the matter...'' Said Shlok clearly worried for her

'Nothing... I think these drinks are getting to me...'' She said calming down a little much to Raman's relief who thought maybe she was just a tad tipsy but he was wrong, she hadn't even began drinking yet

Mihika knew something just didn't quite add up and this was a part of Ishita that she had not seen before. Ishita was chugging down alcohol it would drown her sorrows. She was one of those goody touch type of girls who always believed Alcohol was bad for you health and wasn't good for you so this was sight that worried her.

Shlok was in even more shock and understood that Ishita was hurting over something and he was a bit worried that given how she was talking it had something to do with him. But what he didn't quite know was that whatever Ishita was going through was probably going to be ten times harder for him.

Ishu come on you need to slow down there... ' Said Shlok as he removed the drink from her hand but she pulled the bottle away and went and sat down

'You know Shlok... Regret is something I don't really take very well and betrayals are even worse...'' She said

'Okay that is kind of random...'' Said Shlok as he sat down Raman, Shagun, Mihika joining him

Ishita was sitting right across from where Raman was as she then looked at him and smiled almost as if she was reading something from his face that others couldn't quite see. Raman looked at her frowned a little as he smiled before chuckling

'What...'' he said

She got up from her seat and went and knelt down in front of him looking into his eyes as tears filled hers. She put her hands on the nape of his neck and pulled him into her as she placed her lips on his.

Raman wasn't expecting this but needless to say he wholeheartedly accepted as he kissed her back. He leaned in and put his hand around her waist as he helped her get up and stand on her feet all the while his lips still on hers. She kissed him some more before hearing Mihika say

'Eeewwweee get a room...'' causing her to pull away

Raman who was smiling mistaking this for some kind of sign that she was forgiving him turned away rubbing his lips with his thumbs to removed the lip stick smudges Ishita had put on him as he politely said

'Sorry...''

'Wow Ishu who would have thought huh... So I take it you and him are now okay and that episode not so long ago was not serious after all...'' Said Shlok BUT Ishita just kept quiet and grabbed her bottle instead sitting back down

'You know Shlok I just wanted to know what it feels like to be kissed by the great RKB when he has the hots for you. Now I get it... Right Shagun now I understand...'' She said and Shagun who had inkling the entire night that something was wrong just got confirmation but poor gullible Shlok still couldn't place the pieces together

'You know what our problem is? Me and you ...'' Said Shlok pointing at Shlok before she gulped down more tequila

'Yeah what is that...'' Said Shlok

'We love too easy too hard and we are way too forgiving. I mean no one person is allowed to be that forgiving... People take you for granted...And sometimes lessons need to be taught'' She said

'Okay... I am not sure I know where this conversation is going...' He said

'You see Shagun and I have known each other for a long time and she is, well I mean was my best friend in the whole world. People always said our friendship was so one-sided but I always said no... You all just don't get her... You know...'' She said Shlok who was taking this conversation lightly started to have a feel of something was wrong

'Ishita mind telling me what is going on...'' He said

'I mean she would never do anything to hurt me. She can't... She is my friend. I treat her like my sister I mean it is impossible... She cannot possibly betray me like that... That is how I have been feeling the whole entire night'' she said as she grabbed the bottle and drunk some more

'Okay Ishita do we need to leave...'' Said Mihika who knew Ishita was about to screw up a lot of things

'Oh I am not going anywhere I live here remember.'' Ishita replied

Ishita...'' Raman called her name but she ignored him

'She and I had this agreement, a code sort of which she came up with by the way. We were never supposed to hunt in marked territory. For those of you who do not understand it meant no one was allowed to go in for a boy the other liked up until the former was certain there was no future with that boy. You see once one of us knew what she we liked the boy, the other was supposed to back off. It was our own way of making sure no boys ever came between the friendships. ' Said Ishita

'Okay... What has that got to do with anything...'' Said Shlok

'Ishu please I am begging you...'' Shagun said as she began to cry

'You know the ironic part is she was then one who came up with the damn code. When Shlok and I became friends I had this massive crush on him. He was cute and funny and nice to me. But I made a mistake, waited too long to declare and introduced him to Shagun and that ended fast, you know why...'' She said looking Shagun

'Ishu please...'' Sad Shagun

'Why is that Shagun come on tell me...'' Said Ishita

'Because he was my marked territory...'' Said Shagun as tears streamed down her eyes

'Ahhh exactly, now you can imagine my shock when I found out only I have been abiding by this code...'' Said Ishita

'Ishita what is going on...'' Said Raman who was beginning to catch up on what had been going on all along

'I just have one question for you two...'' She said looking at Shagun and Raman

'How long where you all planning on lying to us...'' Said Ishita and Shagun who knew that there was no hiding anymore tried to salvage the situation

'Ishita please... Don't do this...'' but unlike Shagun, Raman knew there was no coming back from this

'Ishita what is going on...'' Said Shlok whose attention was now fully grabbed as Ishita gulped some more alcohol down tears in her eyes but her voice wouldnt quiver

'Did you know that Ally is a bit of an alcoholic? I swear that girl can drink... And I learnt one thing about her too, once you put in her a few cocktails, she begins to sing like a bird. You can imagine my surprise when she told me of a story of this girl and this guy who meet at this party almost a year ago. She funnily told me that apparently they had a no strings attached relationship and it as working until the friend of the girl interfered.'' Said Ishita before she threw her head back laughing as she added

'She said that rumour has it that the girl didn't want to share him with her friend. No one at college knew and that is how she kept her relationship with her boyfriend. See there was no problem because her friend with benefits was not attached but that changed.''

'Ishu stop it... This is not the right way to do things...'' Said Mihika but Ishita just ignored her and said

'Apparently three months ago, he fell in love with her friend and also had to marry her so it had to end. Now I know you all are wondering why she would be telling me a story like this...'' Said Ishita looking at Shagun who by now was in tears and Raman was looking like he had been stabbed

'Yeah why would she...'' Said Shlok

'Apparently, there was a bet as whether or not they would end up together. Ally thought that since the girl was of higher status, at least at college, the guy would eventually end up with her. She thought they would but it was her friend who happened to the guy's brother who won the bet. The brother thought that the guy would never settle down with someone like that. Anyway she was asking me for some money to pay off the bet because she had lost and also was low on cash that day...'' Said Ishita as she looked at Raman and gulped down the tequila some more before she said

'I need something stronger. Do you have some scotch here?'' She said as she walked over to the bar and picked the bottle of scotch with a glass and poured herself a drink

Okay now... Can someone tell me what the hell is going on.'' Said Shlok who was fearing for the worst

'Oh Shlok, that is not the best part of the story. The best part of the story was that Romi was the one won the bet. Now at first I didn't understand what she was telling me and I was like nahh that is the alcohol in her talking but then I remembered something. I just saw him shove his tongue down her throat like 45 minutes ago. Could it be that '' Said Ishita as she pointed at Shagun and Raman as she chuckled

'Wait what...'' Said Shlok

'Exactly, that was my reaction. I was like seriously, at my own engagement in my own room under my parent's roof...'' Said Ishita as she ditched the glass and drunk from the bottle

'Okay you need to stop drinking because you have stopped making sense...'' Said Shlok as he grabbed the bottle from her and said

'Ishita what is going on...'' as tears began to fill his eyes

' I am so sorry...'' She said as she tears filled her eyes all over again

'Just tell me...'' He said

'I saw them kissing and I thought maybe Shagun was trying to get back at me for whatever it is in her head she thinks is my fault. I mean that is the only reason she would think that it is okay to kiss a man I am supposed to be getting engaged to in a few hours. But then I remember how this whole semester has been and it hit me, these two inhuman people have been playing us the whole entire time.'' Said Ishita

'Ishita what are you telling me...'' Said Shlok who had tears in his eyes

'Shagun and Raman have known each other longer than they lead on and they have been sleeping together for almost a year now.'' She finally said it out loud tears rolling down her face but it was like she was numb on the inside. She wasn't even sure how to feel

Shlok turned and looked at Shagun who was in tears and didn't want to believe what he was hearing; I mean how it can be. He had been with her for three years; did it mean Shagun cheated in him for most all their relationship? He began second guessing everything.

'I am sorry Please... Shlok ...'' Said Shagun

'Is it true...'' Said Shlok

'Shlok please...'' Shagun answered

'Is it true...'' He barked and she just nodded before she said

'Please it is not what you think Shlok...'' She tried to talk but Shlok couldn't even look at her and just walked out because like Ishita he needed to process this as when Shagun tried to walk out Mihika wouldn't let her

'Oh no this has been long overdue. You need to stay and face the music...'' Said Mihika

'What I don't get is why would you lie like that? I mean why would you do this to us, to me? I don't get it. Let say for arguments sake that you didn't know I was friends with Shagun when you found out, couldn't you just tell me? Or an even better question Shagun why did you sleep with someone else in the first place'' Said Ishita as she rubbed the tears that were streaming down her face with the back of her hand

'Ishita I am so... Oh God I am so sorry I just...'' Raman tried to talk but no words were coming out

'Ishu please I need to go find Shlok...'' cried Shagun

'NO... You owe me an explanation as much as you owe him. I have been a friend to you Shagun in every sense of the word and yet you...'' Said Ishita but Shagun interpreted

'It was before I knew you liked him. I swear Ishu...'' She said

'Okay you expect me to believe that after the way this semester panned out. You really think I will believe that...'' Said Ishita

'Look I don't know what to say...'' Raman who was shattered at this point tried to talk but Ishita wouldn't let him

'The damage is already done and there is no coming back from this. The reason I asked for us to come here is that after 8 weeks, we will go back home and tell them we broke up and failed to work it through. Under no circumstances should my family be shamed in any way or so help me God Raman you will regret having known me. You have never known the wrath of a woman scorned Raman Kumar Bhalla and you will find out if you try me...'' She said before she gulped down the remaining drink in the bottle and turned to Shagun and said

'So how does it feel to have something that you love so early get yanked from under your feet...'' She said but Shagun just cried

'Now your going to watch me take it away piece by piece...'' she said before leaving a shocked Raman and Shagun behind as Mihika followed her

'Raman...'' Shagun tried to call him but he said

'Just go...''' leaving him in the middle of his leaving room crying

Shagun had made her way back to Shlok's apartment but he wasn't there. She sat in the living room anticipating what she was to say or do when he finally came home. She was scared, she was worried and also knew that chances were that hers and Shlok's relationship was about to come to an end. She needed to be honest with him; she needed to make him understand how sorry she was. She was still lost in her thoughts when the door flung open.

Shlok walked in pissed as hell and Shagun could see it also sensing that chances were high he had been drinking. He locked the door and walked passed her into the living room as he sat down removing his shoes.

'Shlok please I am sorry... Please I am sorry...'' She cried but he just kept quiet

Shlok please... I am begging you please... I messed up horribly but I love you...'' She said but he just kept quiet looked at her his eyes blood shot red before he walked up stairs

'Wait... please talk to me... Say something...'' She called out but he again went passed her and she followed him

'Shlok... Shlok wait... Shlok...'' she cried

He walked into the bedroom and began throwing things around, the clothes, the bags, the drawers; everything was out upside down like he was going crazy

'Shlok what are you... Please stop...'' She cried but he didn't

He removed his clothes and began checking his closet before he finally landed on a jacket he was looking for and sat back down. He put his hand in the inside pocket of the jacked and removed this beautiful red velvet jewellery box. He threw the jacked a side and opened the box turning it around such that Shagun could see what it contained before she placed it on the table in the room

Shagun gasped as she put her hand on her mouth realising that it was an engagement ring. It was beautiful and exquisite and over the top, the kind of ring she would exactly love. She looked at him as he stared at her and wondered how long he had been carrying that ring around and as if on cue he said

'I have been having that for the last 3 months and every time I tried to ask you, you made it harder and harder so I waited and waited. The day I took you to meet my parents I wanted to propose but it seemed like you had a lot of your mind so I waited little did I know it was him all along.'' He said as he let out a soft laugh

'Shlok please...'' she cried

'I resent you so much because I gave up a lot for you. I gave up everything for you and this is what I get...'' He said as he got up and looked away trying hard to keep his anger in tact

'Pleas Shlok look at me... Shlok please I am so sorry...'' She cried but he just kept quiet and walked over to the counter grabbing a drink before he grabbed his car keys

'No... No...'' screamed Shagun as she walked over to the door and bolted it

'Please stay and talk to me... Please... I love you...'' She said

'Then why... Why did you do this? I don't understand...'' he said

'I don't know...'' she murmured

'I don't get why you would do this. Was I not treating you well, was I that bad that I deserved it. Wasn't I good enough for you?''' he said as he walked back inside

'Shlok please don't do this...'' she cried

'No... I need for you to make me understand. Because I don't get how this happened; Do you love him'' he asked

'Shlok I am begging...'' She cried

'Stop crying and answer the damn question...Do you love him...'' he asked again

'Yes... But not in that way...'' she cried

'What the hell does that even mean not in that way? So I am the man who holds your hand when you're scared and he is the one who gets to screw you when you horny...'' he said

'That is not fair Shlok...'' she said

'Where did you two have sex...'' Shlok asked again

'Shlok I am sorry this will not solve anything...'' she cried

'It will give me a piece of mind, now answer the question...'' He said

'At his place and sometimes at a hotel...'' she cried

'How long have you been screwing him behind my back...'' He asked as he poured himself another drink

'8 Months...'' She said

'Was he better than me...'' Said Shlok

'Oh God please Shlok I am begging you don't do this... Please... I am so sorry...'' she cried

'Shagun answer the question, do you like him better than me...'' he said

'Yes... Yes sometimes. But in a different sort of way...'' she tried to justify

'Don't do that. Don't say things just to make me feel better. I hate it when you do that...'' he said before he turned and punched the wall hurting his hand

'Shlok...'' she called him as she came forward and tried to help out

'Do not touch me...'' he yelled before he turned and looked at her almost as if he had remembered something

'Wait a minute... That pregnancy scare ... Was it his...'' he said

'What... ' she said surprised

'Was it his baby...'' he asked again tears filling his eyes

'No...'' She said

'If it wasn't his then whose was it?'' He said

'Shlok please I am sorry...'' she cried

'Were there more... How many were there Shagun...'' he barked

'No one else it was just him...'' She cried again

'Okay then whose baby was it.'' He said and she just looked at him as she sobbed and it took him a minute to figure out why she wasn't answering

'Oh God it was mine wasn't it. You lied to me and aborted my baby...'' he said pissed off

'I am sorry, please Shlok you have to understand I wasn't ready for a child.'' She said

'I get that believe me what I don't seem to understand is why lie to me about it? Have I ever forced you to do something you don't want to? Why didn't you tell me Shagun? How could you lie about something like that?'' he said as tears streamed down his face

Shagun knew how selfish she had been to lie to him in that way about it but in her own twisted way she thought he would forgive her of cheating than aborting his baby. She never trusted how much he loved her and now that she did, she was going to lose it all.

'I thought you would never agree and get all sentimental and it would hurt you. I figured it would be easier to lie that I cheated. You always forgave me so I figured one more time...'' she said stopping herself as she realised that's he was speaking nonsense

'Oh wow that is your excuse... How can you be so selfish? I can't believe I almost proposed to you. How could you do that to me Shagun? How could you...'' he said

'Shlok please I am sorry... I love you...'' she cried

'No... People who love each other can't hurt each other like that. I am so broken Shagun and I am hurting and it is because of you...'' he said pointing at her as he cried

'I am sorry... I don't know what to do to make this better please tell me what to do...'' she said

'Wait... Did you know he was supposed to be married to Ishita...'' He asked

'No... I swear I didn't know that...'' she said decisively for the first time since the questioning began

'When you found out she was in love with him did you still sleep with him?'' asked Shlok

'I don't...'' she tried to lie but he wasn't having it

'Don't lie to me Shagun I don't have the patience for that right now...'' he said

'Yes...'' she answered as she cried again

'How many times...'' he asked

'Twice...'' she answered

'Wait... The night at the party, is that why you left early to go be with him...'' Said Shlok

'Shlok please... Stop...'' she begged him but he wouldn't listen

'No... I want to know. Did you go there to sleep with him...'' he asked

'Yes...'' she cried

'So you slept with him that day...'' he said shaking his head as he wiped his tears with the back of his hand

'No... He refused... He said he couldn't betray her like that again...'' she said

'Oh so he turned you down that is why you lashed out at her. Wait a minute who called it off...'' he said

'He did...'' she answered

'Oh wow... So if he didn't...'' he said almost as if he was making a realisation that he hadn't made since the whole thing began

'Shlok please... I am so sorry... I don't know what else to say...'' She said

'You know what hurts the most Shagun is that no matter how much I tried to love you it was never going to be enough. You have humiliated me, taken my love and shoved it right back at my face. Ishita was right... I love too hard and too easy and that was my problem, I loved you too hard. I always strived to see the best of you even when it never really existed. You played me well and I hope whatever you wanted to achieve you achieved'' he said as he placed the glass on the table

'Shlok please...'' she pleaded

'You know what is even more sad and pathetic is that even after all this I am still in love with you. Sad right...'' he said as he picked up the ring from the table and put it in his pants pocket

'What are you doing...'' she said realising he was getting ready to walk out

'I will be okay... It is going to hurt but I will be fine. Let me learn to appreciate the fact that you were not doing me a favour by loving me if anything I was.'' He said

'Shlok please don't say...'' she tried to talk but he interrupted

'The Bhallas have an apartment building where all interns are to stay. Pack all you stuff and move there. I want you out of my house and out of my life. ' he said before walking out of the apartment

Omg!!! I have read this chapter with a thudding heart... And i dreaded where it would lead to.. Aptly titled abhorrent betrayal... How messed up life has become for the four of them. And i feel so bad for ishita and shlok. I literally have teary eyes.. Dunno how are you gonna resolve the situation and redeem the betraying souls. Afterall this is ishra's story. All need to know hiw will the mighty RKB will repent and make up for his faults. Update soon

I don't like that Raman slept with shagun not once hut many times... Its like ' Jis ka Dar Tha Wohi Hua' for me.
