i wanted to share this with u all

"This is our Rajputana, it is proud of its glittering swords,
It has spent all its life with spears, arrows and bows
This land of Paratap has grown listening to the vows of freedom
It has seen thousands of Padminis jumping into sacred fires,
Every grain of its soil is telling the stories of sacrifices,
Smear this sand on your forehead, for this earth is of Martyrs"

On the night of February 22, the Moguls attacked the fort from all sides and created several breaches in the walls. The Rajput warriors put up a stubborn resistance.

At one point in the fighting, Prince Patta's mother commanded Patta to don the saffron robe, which would indicate his desire to die for his gods and his country. She also armed his young bride with a lance and accompanied her down the rock. The defenders of Chitor saw mother and daughter-in-law die heroically, fighting side by side.
One night when Jaimal was getting a segment of the wall repaired, Akbar recognized him from the lights of the flame and ordered to fire at him. The canon ball struck the target and left Jaimal crippled. The broken wall could not be repaired that night. Sensing the invasion of the fort the very next day, a johar was committed in the fort that night.

An hour had passed when Akbar received reports that the Rajputs had inexplicably abandoned their defenses. At about that time, fire broke out in several places in the fort. Akbar's Hindu adviser, Raja Bhagwan Das, told the Mogul emperor that the Rajputs must be performing their custom of johar.

At dawn on February 23, the Mogul emperor, accompanied by several thousand men, entered the fortress mounted on a majestic elephant. By then the Rajputs had been routed. People were fighting everywhere, and bodies lay in every street, lane, passageway and bazaar. Some Rajputs died fighting in temples, while others fought to the death in their own homes. Many Rajput warriors had made their last stand in the ranas house, from which they emerged in twos and threes to die fighting.

n elephant trampled a Rajput, rolled him up in its trunk and brought him before Akbar. Themahout (elephant driver) said he did not know the man's name, but he appeared to be a leader, as a large number of warriors had fought around him. That leader turned out to be the 16-year-old Patta.

The emperor also witnessed an act of Mogul chivalry in the battle. A Rajput warrior had challenged a Mogul soldier to combat when another Mogul decided to come to his aid. But the Mogul soldier waved his compatriot away, saying that it was against the rules of chivalry to render assistance when an opponent had challenged him. The Mogul then single-handedly disposed of the Rajput.

Nearly 30,000 Rajputs were killed, the majority mercilessly slaughtered when Akbar ordered a general massacre of the population. This uncharacteristic barbarity was to remain the only major blemish on the emperor's otherwise enlightened reign.there were between 22,000 and 40,000 women, children, and the old and infirm still alive inside the fort as Akbar's victorious army entered it.Akbar, according to his own fathnama, ordered the butchering of the defenseless civilians.

He also ordered his troops to collect the necklaces from the necks of the fallen Rajputs for the royal treasure. This bounty weighed approximately 800 pounds.

Akbar had the gates of Chittor removed and taken to Delhi along with two massive nagaras (drums) used to announce the departure and arrival of Chittor princes. A huge candelabra from the Kallika Mata temple was also removed and taken to Agra. Chittor was then razed to the ground and the rest of its inhabitants (Brahmins and lower castes) killed.

Really informative!
A large salute to all these people's bravery and patriotism!
My hatred for Akbar increases every single time I read about the siege and the destruction it caused and the lives it took

Thanks a lot for sharing this valuable information

ur welcome

not only he killed innocent but the way he treated them once Rajoputs died heroically.

"He also ordered his troops to collect the necklaces from the necks of the fallen Rajputs for the royal treasure"

This is not humane.

I failed to understand what was Raja Bharmal or other Rajputs who had joined Akbar doing when all this was happening at that time.

I also heard that made pillars of the dead heads of the soldiers or villagers at some point of time in this siege...even after seeing that the Rajputs treated the mughal's bodies with equal respect and honour and gave them a proper burial he actually had the inhumanity to order a massacre of innocent villagers, including children women and the injured..
I just a fail to understand how somebody can be so thirsty for blood that just to prove that he is the best it to show the others his power and threaten the other Rajputs he could actually do such an Inhumane act...
Even I wonder how the Rajputs like Bharmal, Todarmal etc could join hands with them and send their daughters into his harem!
