No he seems to have skipped the official meeting story. He had seen SRK in that office for the first time. Then he met him on the sets of Karan Arjun. (from 2:20)

looks like the reporter got it wrong since it doesn't seem to be a direct quote. but i think they met at least by baazigar, cause karan had mentioned that he was on the sets helping with one of the songs
