Author's Note- Views expressed are solely mine and if you differ in view, you have complete freedom to have your views like I have for mine. If you can't agree with me even then learn to respect disagreement as I like respecting contrary views and expect same respect for mine.

I never thought of justifying why I love Karna the most. This post is just about why I am this crazy and sensitive for this Mytho character called Karna (inspite of being a woman- pardon my specifying this😳)
Abandoned as a child - If you think this in terms of modern era since we have habit of relating what happened thousand years ago to present situations then he represent those children of society who are left by their parents who did mistakes in their lives and are not responsible enough to face it so they run away from responsibility and their mistakes are somehow burdened on their children. Now I know many would say .. Kunti was helpless at that time and she had no choice and Karna did have good foster parents and he led good childhood n all... But he was a born prince who could have easily got what he wanted .. respect.. his desire to learn archery.. and most importantly he could avoided hating his own brothers...It amuses me how people easily passes this incident of karna as if it was nothing while it did change a lot for Karna's fate...
Had to fight for respect in society- There exist this mindset even now that a person has to be judged from caste he belongs to.. Many of us educated people still suffer from prejudiced from people coming from weaker section of society.. I have seen people utter disrespectful words to people lower to them... Yes and this 1000s of years after Karna the great.A person should be respected for his deeds and not his birth... He may be rich having high caste but in deeds he would be lowest of low.. Still people will respect him.. due to his name in society... I am not saying all are like that... I m just saying that these issues so much exist and our society is infected with this disease...Such people most of times accept this as their fate but very rare are those who fight for their place in society...Even today its hard to find such people while we had him such long time ago...
Loyal friendship to Duryodhan- I know many can have contrary views on this. Saying that if he was loyal enough ,why did he spare 4 pandavas... to me he was trying to be fair to all ..he was bounded by friendship to be by duryodhana's side.. though he promised to not kill 4 of his brothers, he fought fair war on dury's side knowing that he is fighting his own kin.. his own brothers..his own nephews...
Danveer - It is very easy to pass this as customary ritual for a vrat or may be a sankalp ..
but have you ever fulfilled a needy's wish.. If you have then you will realise how it feels .. when person smiles in relief and thank you for bottom of his heart... His acts of kindness may not be that much important for people to recognise his goodness of heart...but isnt it strange that praise is heaped on him for the very same deed... if it was not an honest practice of Karna..people would not have named him as Danveer Karna... and this man was so big in giving that he didnt mind ripping his body apart... I can still shiver imaginning pain he must have gone through ..and that too for his enemy's father...
And most importantly he was what he was...Yes he did some mistakes... he was on wrong side... he was wrong with harsh words for draupadi.. he was wrong at many such instances.. but I accept him with these flaws ..He was no all white saint character...He was a human with flaws and weaknesses.. and inspite of these weaknesses...he rose strongly with his strengths... he was man who wore heart on sleeves... and such men do make impulsive mistakes which they later repent too... that doesnt make them any less of man... his repentance made him a bigger man .. His denial of Krishna's offer made him bigger ... this is for those who called him selfish... I wish he was selfish ..then probably he would have not died in war...
I can go on and on.. This post is not to prove anyone anything..This post is to tell people that people who love karna doesnt disrespect or demean greatness of other characters in the epic...It is just that Karna is closer to heart as in his struggles we can see our struggles at time..In his mistakes , we learn what not to do when faced with such situation...and in his strengths we learn what we can make as our strength... He is real immortal mortal (word credit to Sayanee here😳)
Most importantly.. Loving Karna is my choice and that doesnt give any right to anyone to judge me for that😊. Coz I might be sentimental...but you dont get judgemental Okay...!

Awesome post Riti. But having been a Karna hater turned Karna lover, none of the above facts made me love him. What made me love him are
1. Controversy - on a close read of MB, all points that are against Karna can be disproved with evidences available in MB itself.
2. Well, many people keep dragging him into every discussion, just like Draupadi being dragged into Dyuta Sabha, but only bacause they have nothing to comment in support of their views.
3. Karna irritates a lot of people. I have tried that a lot in real life & I terribly failed. And this guy simply does it with such an ease that even 5000 years after his death, people get super irritated just by the letter K.
So I like him. I wish he had been a deadly sado-masochist racist so that many other saddists would have liked him !!!!

We are rebels who can treat the other gender equally 😉

Ritima looks like it is really time for talking about men's rights 😆 ... lets set the trend of pseudo masculinism 😆

Brilliant post Riti...Your honest love for Karna reflects in your words...n you have precisely written down the points for which Karna deserves respect...In fact, I can add some more...

*Everyone in the war fought for some reason...The Pandavas fought to get back their land...The Kauravas fought to defend the throne.Wat did Karna fight for? Even if the Kauravas had won, n Duryodhan had got his throne, wat would have Karna gained from it? Nothing...he would have got nothing except glory...That's right..
In other words...he did not fight to get any land, throne, wealth...he fought for glory...n for friendship...
That makes him a hero...

*I may not like Karna the way u all do, but I have to admit, he was an honest man...He rarely resorted to cheating on his own...He believed in open war...n not on cowardice...his refusal to take help from Ashwasena to kill Arjun proves it...

So apart from the tragic reasons, these are also the reasons y he should be respected.Period.

Now u said that, people who love Karna dont disrespect other characters...
Are u sure about that? I know there are quite a few reasonable people...n u, Jamy, etc are some of them... 😊
But are u sure, this is the case with most Karna lovers?

Now coming to the 'feminism' angle...it's not a problem if women love Karna...y will they not? He was a hero...handsome..great warrior...it's obvious women would drool over him...Even I drool over Achilles..imagining Brad Pitt...😉☺️
I am sure even Arjun has more female fans than male... 😆 The problem is not with the no. of female fans but with their lack of empathy towards the female characters of the epic, because of Karna...I am not saying, everyone is like that...but I am sure you know who all I am talking about...😉

Well...u can call me a feminist...or maybe a wannabe one...😆 n yes there was a time when I used to see the epic, from my favourite's perspective...but I guess with time I realized even she wasnt flawless...I can give a hundred reasons of Pratiloma, women's fundamental right to choose their groom, etc...but do those reasons change the fact that it was extremely insulting for Karna to be rejected by a woman in front of millions? No matter how much feminism I do, it cannot be altered that Karna was hurt for no fault of his...Period. [I stll consider this incident as an interpolation...😆 ] Then y do I support Draupadi? Bcoz most people try to see the situation from Karna's angle...'how he was insulted!'...'how he was hurt!'...but noone tries to understand that Draupadi belonged to a DIFFERENT age...n even today caste matters for marriages for many states...then Draupadi toh belonged to 3000BC!!...
My love for a feminist character should not come in the way of understanding the agony of the male heroes, especially when they were innocent...n yes, I have just begun, n I have a long way to go before I can accept things from Duryodhan's perspective as well...😆 It is this lack of empathy, that I have seen in most female fans regarding the female characters that has bothered me...Not their fandom for Karna...
And yes, this reasonable attitude should come from every fan group...😊

But then again, I am not saying everyone is like that...many here are quite reasonable...😊
But I am sure u know that most are not...and again, u probably know who all I am talking about...😉

Hey Amrita,
Your reply has waken me up..😆..I mean though its too late at night but couldn't resist replying. I agree some are there..but then aren't there fans in other groups who demean other characters. People have their own perception .What I meant with that statement of mine was dont judge that a karna fan will insult draupadi..or say Arjun.. That's personal opinion of people my dear friend ...You can't generalise things ...I have heard many demeaning things for women from those who love draupadi.. So it doesn't matter which MB character you love...what matters is how much understanding you have of that character and that differ from people to people...If people who are karna fans demean other characters just to bring him up then they understand karna so little...n obviously other characters too ..

I have just mumbled some words ..but I hope you get my point dear...Being a woman doesn't mean I should only understand woman's viewpoint... That makes us narrow minded.. I just want people to understand that definition of feminism is not limited to criticising karna.. In real world.. Karna can be found in women too...I bet if karna was a woman ..many thoughts wud have been different ..anyways that's a different thing...😆

I m too sleepy...Good night dear
