Rajveer : 'this car could not be any cleaner bro' Rajveer informed me, i stepped back to observe our handi work. Not bad. Rajveer had come to visit with her wife Niharika.

He was the only family for me after my parents and honestly i could not dream of an elder brother better than him.

Anurag : 'I could lick it's glasses just like that' Anurag commented standing behind both of us- yes standing behind us, he had finally found a suitable bone marrow donor for him and he could now walk or do anything a normal person would! Tarini was so happy that day,that if one could die of happiness i would have lost a dear friend of mine by now.

Raj :' yea he's correct'

I agreed running my fingers across it .

Not a single speck of dirt. Mission accompolished

Raj : 'so what now'

I checked my phone to see the time.

K : 'In about an hour we all will head over to the hospital and they'll prepare Anaya for her surgery and' i said after a pause 'i'll be a father by the end of the day' he nodded.

The doctor encouraged us to have a c-section delivery because of the awkward position of the baby in her womb. I hoped everything was gonna be okay.

The three of us headed back inside where Ananya and Niharika were chatting, I looked at her i bet she was as nervous as me.

By the end of the day i was going to be a dad,a father.

I headed upstairs to change my sweaty clothes. After changing i silently tiptoed downstairs she was now sitting alone in the rocking chair, rocking back and forth slowly as she read one of the baby books to her impregnated belly

A : 'and then the bird said to rabbit' she said in a sing-song voice let's be friends! I've always wanted a friend'

I took a seat on the floor

A : 'me too rabbit said and gave the bird a hug'

She set the book down and looked at me I chuckled picking up the book and placing it back on the bookshelf.

K : 'are you ready'

She took my hand swiftly in hers.

A: 'If u are going to be my side, then yes I'm ready in fact I've never been more ready' I had a sudden urge to kiss her, she tasted as sweet like always like a chocolate melting in my mouth, People told me that we were still in the honeymoon phase after 5 years of marriage and i bet we were going to remain like that for a long-long time

Our hospital bags were already packed in the car.

K : 'do you want something else?'

A : 'all the bags are ready and packed?'

K : 'yeah'

A : 'then i couldn't think of a thing'.

The 5 of us trooped out to our cars, Ananya taking her time getting seated in the passenger seat ...

Anurag : 'try not to make this a long birth I want my little sister in my arms as soon as she steps in this world' Anurag asked from the backseat, i swear kids knew everything these days

A : 'hush..My baby is going to take as long as it needs'

Hopefully not too long, i thought the last thing i wanted was to stand in an operation theatre for an extended amount of time, watching as they extracted my baby from my wife.

Just the thought gave me Goosebumps.

The doctor was ready for annaya by the time we reached there.

She was first given an epidural, ensuring that she'd be numb for the procedure . The last thing she'd want is to feel them cutting her open.

As i changed into my scrubs the realness of the situation began to descend upon me.

My wife was about to give birth to my child.

I was going to be a father.

A : 'hey' Ananya said, as i came back into her pre-surgery area.

I nodded afraid that if i tried to speak i'd puke everywhere.

A : 'the anesthiologist is on his way to talk to us and then we'll be ready' Ananya informed me

K : 'I can't do this,' I blurted.

A : 'you can't do what ?' she rised her eyebrows in surprise

K : 'I can't be a dad'

She reached out her hand towards me, and i clasped her hand in mine, my heart racing a mile a ninute.

A :' I know it's very scary now' she said quietly. but we can do this'

K : 'you don't understand' i said shaking my head i'm a terrible parent.

I had experience i was never able to handle anurag properly. I have anger issues and hell i don't even know how to change a diaper.

K : 'how am i gonna know if it's hungry?' was it like a goldfish ? feed it twice a day ?

A :' Kabir' Ananya said quietly 'you are going to make a beautiful dad'.

K : 'you can't be so su..'

A : 'You had been a fantastic guardian for anurag'

I shook my head...the anaesthesiologist suddenly came in

It was time for her c-section

she continued. 'we're going to get through this together right?'

This was the first sign of fear she'd known, her first sign of uncertainity.

I needed to be strong for her.

That's what love was being there for each other through the ups and downs, and being strong when the other one couldn't.

So i took a deep breath and took her hand in mine smiling at her.

K : 'we're going through this together'

For her c-section they had to cut her through the skin and the underlying tissues all the way down to the uterus.

That sounded horribly painful to me.

The doctor was keeping her and in turn me updated through out the process, letting us know when we reached a new layer.

She ,made a transverse cut and passed her tools off to her assistant.

It was now time to extract the baby.

Annaya's eyes were filled with fearand determination as she waited.

Doctor : 'it's a girl!' the doctor announced,briefly showing us the baby before she was whisked to cleaned up.

Annaya smiled in relief.

The doctor soon started to stitch her up, she was going to be in a lot of pain later.

Nurse : 'Here you go' the nurse said to me, offering the baby 'A healthy baby girl'

I reached out my arms accepting the baby from her.

I looked at this new born, bitting my lip.

This was my daughter. I fell in love with her the instant I took her in my arms.

A : 'Let me see'

I turned so she could see her and a tear trickled down her cheek, i kissed her forehead gently.

A : 'so kavya it is' ananya said, we had decided for two names after a lot of brainstorming and a near fight, kavya if it was a girl and Abhiraj if it was a boy

I stared into the face of this innocent, helpless baby I realised how lucky i was to be given this gift, the gift of life.

And no, i wasn't perfect

And yes, i was going to make mistakes

But with annaya by my side,

Kavya was going to be one lucky little girl

duh..i didn't knew what to name her 😛 so i named her kavya ( which i'd recently read somewhere in a story i couldn't remember ) sorry if it turns out that i'd stolen a name from your story ...because honestly i can't remember where i'd read this to ask for a permission 😆😆
