Liked the book, not the movie... however maybe I would have liked it more without the book taken as source - and with another Rancho... in my feeling, either Hirani himself compromised too much or he was forced by VV Chopra (who also invested himself into the story-writing) to do so.
I know that the movie had been successful at the boxoffice, but financial success is of no concern to me... Hirani made such good Munnabhai movies and then such a preachy film... I really wonder why.
Normaly I won't write negative things in a celebration thread, but I genuinely asked me what went wrong during the preparation of a movie that could have been a funny and meaningful take on a certain educational system... (at least in my perception)
Nevertheless, I really liked some performances:
Aamir has said Raju/Vinod wanted Rancho to be more like Akash from DCH arrogant type. But he wanted to be more simple
Actually, I doubt that (where did he say that...don't remember)...
To be honest, I often can't really 'connect' to Aamir's characters - as in fully follow the emotional/intellectual 'trajectory' of the character through his play...it seems to be just a personal thing of 'reception'. From even the first movie on (without knowing anything specific about the Hindi filmindustry), Lagaan, I sensed the 'fact of acting' in his acting (not in a l l his movies I've watched, though)... and that was also in 3 idiots (and even in TZP)...in the contrary, in DCH (and Dangal), I found him quite 'natural'.
