The Delhi High Court has concluded the hearings regarding the estate of Sunjay Kapur, the industrialist. The legal dispute involves Priya Sachdev Kapur, his widow, and his children from a previous marriage with Karisma Kapoor, who allege that Priya forged Sunjay's will. The court has reserved its orders on the interim injunction plea.
Justice Jyoti Singh declared the conclusion of oral arguments, with the court officially acknowledging the final written submissions. The court confirmed all procedural steps were complete and emphasized that no further filings would be accepted. This precedes the final order in the Sunjay Kapur estate case, which involves his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, and his children, who dispute the will.
In the recent hearings, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya Kapur, refuted claims of assets being moved overseas or hidden. He also contested the accuracy of assertions that Sunjay Kapur's annual income was Rs 60 crore, labeling the allegations as incorrect.
What were the allegations?
Rani Kapur, Sunjay's mother, alleged that Priya reported bank balances of only Rs 1.7 crore, despite Sunjay's claimed Rs 60 crore annual salary. Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing Rani Kapur, argued that it was unlikely Sunjay would leave his entire estate to Priya.
Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani represented Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, the children from Sunjay's marriage to Karisma Kapoor. They contested Sunjay's will and requested an interim injunction to prevent Priya from managing the estate.
The Delhi High Court has reserved its judgment on the interim injunction, which will influence the inheritance dispute.
