Chapter 4 :
THOUGHTS
Abhi showered and freshened up. His stomach growled and he decided to look for something to eat. He walked towards the refrigerator where he saw a smiling Abhi and Tanu staring back at him. It was a picture from their honeymoon at Seychelles. How happy they had been! How much in love they were!
Abhi smiled as he remembered that day. Abhi had wanted to go to the beach and have fun, while Tanu, she wanted to stay in the room. "Abhi, i dont want a Tan!" She had argued. He had somehow managed to convince her to go out and they had so much fun. The smile reached their eyes. He could see that in the picture.
Abhi looked around the living room. Every corner reminded him of her. Some were happy memories, while most were those he wished he could forget. The minutest of things would trigger a fight between them, be it the way he said a particular sentence or the amount of time she spent on her phone. The silliest of reasons were enough for them to begin a war. Initially, they would make up with each other as soon as they would cool down. A fight would be followed by lovey dovey talks and sweet nothings. Eventually, silence replaced the whispers and ego replaced the love.
But now, everything had ended. She was not a part of his life anymore. She had dumped him and moved on, while he still held on to the memories. It had been a couple of days now. When he couldnt take it anymore last night, he decided that he needed to drink to forget her.
He wiped the tear that had started to form in his eyes and determined to forget her. He determined to move on too. If she didnt need him, he didnt need her either. He decided to go back home, to dadi, to al. They were his people. They would never leave him.
Thats when the realisation dawned on him that he had left them. He had left his home and his family because of the one woman he despised now. She had forced him to cut contacts with his family. Yes, he did know through Purab how they were doing, but his family didnt know that. His dadi had cut off all ties with him the day he left home, so had Al. He had no one now. No one he could call his own. He felt choked. He felt suffocated. He needed to get out of the place and think. He picked up his car keys and drove to the only place he knew he would get the much needed peace.

Pragya sat on the rocks, overlooking the sea. She smiled as she remembered how much fun she had here back in time. She looked around to see a lot of crowd far away from her. She smiled at how people still thronged at the Marines, even after so many years. Her smile widened as she recollected the first time her friend got her here. It was a part of the same belt, but far away from the crowd. A secluded area between the tripods, the place was not visible from the mainland. It was peaceful and quiet. The place gave her the feeling of being amongst the crowd, yet being far away.
She looked at the never ending mass of water ahead of her and the orange hue of the setting sun behind that. She noticed a flock of birds returning home to their families. A silhouette of a steamer caught her eyes far away. Faint outlines of the tall skyscrapers were visible behind the clouds on one side.
She stretched her arms a bit and wrapped them around her knees, hugging them closer. The city had not changed much, yet it looked so different than how she had left it. Skyscrapers made their presence felt among the old buildings which still stood strong. Roadside Vada Pav still existed but Jumbo King was there too. Masala chai on earthen pots was still there, but there was coke too. Fashion street was still there, but there were malls too. She noticed how the old Mumbai had blended itself with the modern Mumbai.
She realised how much her life had changed as well. When she first came here, she was a part of a happy family! Loving parents and a very loveable little sister that she adored. When she came here again, during college, it was with her best friend. This place held lots of memories, all happy ones. The fun with her family, monkeying around with her best friend, she remembered it all. A smile made its way on her lips as the nostalgia hit her. Oh how she wished she could relive those days!
