How important to people is it for an actor or an actress, or ANY celebrity, to have international acclaim?

I've often read people quashing SRK's achievement of making movies grossing high overseas in a negative manner, because it's not the same as domestic popularity (goes hand in hand with not highly rating movies that earn 100cr in terms of global sales)

I've also read people mocking Aishwarya for trying her hand in Hollywood, terming it as her desperate attempts to be an international icon etc

Very recently, people weren't keen on Irfan Khan getting credit for being in Jurrasic World because it's a small role etcetcet

so just out of curiosity, if a star gets international acclaim, does it particularly impress you?

Hindi movies being successful abroad is good . But if their not successful in India then ... Side Eye

Indian actors being in HW movies and shows is good as well . But the ones who don't brag about it are the best

Yes it impresses me if the acclaim is REAL. Like Irfan Khan's. Or like PC's TV show. But fake acclaim like Aishwarya's or PC's singing career doesnt impress me. Celebs shouldnt forget that today on the internet its easy to find out how much of real work they are doing outside their countries.
SRK's international fanbase is impressive and the best one among any Indian actor despite not doing a single international project. THAT is what a star should be about.

An achievement is an achievement whether domestic or International...

Mostly the fans of those stars will down play international achievements of other stars who know that their favorite can't do it in the international arena...so why not downplay it...ab movie India mein hit ho ya USA mein...dekhte toh insaan he hain na...so what is the difference?? Why make it look like international achievement means nothing?? and these same people will jump up and down with joy if their favorites get a 2 min role in some HW movie..

Nope not necessarily...a Hindi movie abroad is watched by the desis only...its just that some movies appeal to the NRIs more than the audience back home...DDD did amazing overseas because the desi audience overseas identified more with it and could nnect more with the characters...the single screen audience didn't connect so much...that is the difference...with the explosion in the over seas desi audience...it is equally important for the movie to do well overseas also...that is why u would see such large scale promotions being done overseas for movies.

But then why are people calling DDD a under performer or even failure . Don't get me wrong I loved the movie . It's unfortunate the same thing happened to Yaadein . It was so successful here and in UK but not in India . Don't hate me for liking Yaadein lol . When I meant side eye . I won't and you won't but unfortunately some or a lot of trade people do .

Exactly...this is what the TM wants to know...why is an international acclaim not important???Why is DDD an underperformer despite doing so well overseas?

Domestic BO or Global BO. Both are the same. Majority of the audience is Indians for both. I really don't think the former is more superior or counts more than the other.

As far as Aishwarya, Irfan, and PC I appreciate the fact that they are doing something outside too. The scale doesn't matter, whether it is grand or seemingly lame. At the same time I do think Aishwarya was overhyped a lot more than she deserved for the work she has done outside. Media overhypes these things.

Irfan's career is more impressive. He is very, very good at his job. He is not the biggest star in India, but he is getting work in India and outside due to his own merit. He truly deserves it.
