Right now it seems Deepika, Ranveer and Hrithik.

Ranbir and Anushka attempted it and failed and that was just going back 50 years

All actors seem to have a strong point when it comes to a certain genre. So the go to guys.

If they require someone to be in a period film with dancing etc its these.

Deepika is not as good as Madhuri and Aishwaryia in the classical dancing department.

doesn't depend on actors. If the script us intriguing, screen play is good...it will work with decent acting. Don't think HR was an epitome of good acting in JA..still it was a success.

Big names will help though.

Ram Leela would have done as well with any other actor and actress, it was a soft po*n film basically guaranteed to do well. It was like Sunny Leone's films !

so comparing RL with other period films that have failed is not a valid comparison because RL had lots of sex and was not just a dry film with only historical events.

But Ashoka and Veer (I think that's the one you are talking about...the one with Salman and Zarine Khan...haven't watched it but it did look like a period movie) came out wayyy before they had so much star power. Nowadays the Khans have enough star power to even make shit like D3 and HNY hits. Their star power keeps increasing exponentially as they age, it seems. I bet that if they did a period movie today, it would be a superhit as well.

Aditya may be able to pull off a period look.

Always found him to bear somewhat of a resemblance to a cave man.

I don't think a hit tag depends solely on the actors. Factors such as script, direction, screenplay and music are also as important. But I think HR, the Khans and Shahid could make such films a hit.
