I think Salman opted out due to dates. Shuddhi has been doing the rounds for 2 years now and if Salman continues with it, it won't be made for another 2 years. He has Sultan after PRDP followed by Rai's next - I believe. Then there are talks of Dabbang 3. Salman would rather do Dabbang 3 than Shuddhi.

Nonetheless, I'm really intrigued as to what Shuddhi is all about. If it's Shiva and Sati story, how the heck does Varun fit in as Shiva and Alia as Sati? HR and Shraddha would be more apt, but HR has opted out. From HR-Kareena to Ranveer-Deepika to Salman-whomever to Varun-Alia - quite a demotion.
