My character is like Laurel: Javed Jaffrey
Javed Jaffrey, known for his comic timing, had a tough time playing his character in Dhamaal.
He plays a guy whose brain is like that of a 6-year-old kid. The actor himself terms his role as one having a mixture of different characters. "It's a bit like Laurel of the Laurel and Hardy combo, who has a very childlike innocence," he says.
The biggest challenge for Javed was the fact that except him all the others play dudes. In one sequence, he had to dance in a club but in accordance with his character. "I tried to be slightly awkward, sometime I used to slip and come in but the choreographer Ganesh Acharya wasn't too impressed. He told me that my part had to be really funny," adds the actor-cum-singer and host.
Framing Javed's role for Dhamaal was difficult even for director Indra Kumar so Javed himself came up with some whacky ideas. An excited Javed tells us, "I decided to wear jeans pants with lots of patchwork, short t-shirt with beret on top of my head, which you will see throughout the film."
Dhamaal was being shot with Sanjay Dutt's trail dates round the corner. How tense was the atmosphere on sets? "Sanjay was the senior most amongst the cast and is known for his good sense of humour but none of the actors were trying to be naughty on sets due to obvious reasons. We didn't work many days together but when he shot the last song, he was very much involved. We did not ask him about the case because we knew what was going on in his mind."
Apart from Sanjay Dutt and Javed Jaffrey, Dhamaal stars Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh and Ashish Chowdhry. The film revolves around four lovable but somewhat idiotic guys who are being chased by an inspector. The film, which does not have a female lead, will be Dutt's first release post his arrest and release on interim bail.
