Bhansali's Saawariya has 14 songs

Bhansali's every film barring the song less Black has always boasted of an impressive musical score. With Saawariya the bearded director is introducing Monty Sharma as the film's music director. Here is a small tete-a-tete with Monty who appears extremely confident about the success of his debut film's music.

"It is simply mind-blowing as it has a complete mixture of a variety of songs. There is both folk and orchestral music and the end result has the total impact of different genres. I first composed these songs and then called the singers to sing, this has really turned out well and the difference can be made out when one listens to it," Monty tells us.

Though Saawariya has a total of 14 songs there are only four to five lip sync songs and the rest are used in the background during the key scenes. These songs have been rendered by Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghosal, Shaan and two new singers

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be a hard task master apart from having a great ear for music. How easy or difficult was it working with him? "Sanjay is very passionate about music and so am I. So it was kind of easy for us to relate to each other. Actually we recorded two songs first and then two more and the process went on. None of the songs were rejected by him. We just kept evolving with every take."

Talking about the film's debuting lead pair, Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor Monty tell us, "I have known them since Black. They were both assisting Sanjay for Black and are incredible in Saawariya. I am very happy for them."

Monty started his musical career with the theme music of Mr. India and went on to do the title song of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. "I was playing a theme on piano which Sanjay Leela liked and asked me to compose the title song. He also told Ismail Darbar about it. After that I recorded two songs for Bajirao Mastani but the project failed to take off for some reasons. Then I composed the background score for Black and Devdas," he reveals.

Ismail Darbar has been a Bhansali favourite for many years now and now you have replaced him. "Ismail and I have very cordial relations. We have known each other since childhood. He used to take me to school. Actually Ismail learnt music from my grandfather Ramprasad Sharma. He used to play the violin. Ismail praises me too no end whenever he listens to my Saawariya numbers."

After working with Sanjay, Monty is looking forward to work with people who have a similar passion for music. "If they are passionate they will come to me. I am the kind of music director who does his homework very well. For me music is passion," he states before signing off.
