Hindi cinema has always been partial to casting actresses who have married .This remains the rule barring a few exceptions ...the most notable being Nutan who came back to screen with some brilliant portrayals. It is said that Bimal Roy offered her Bandini and refused to make it with anyone else when she declined .Eventually she came out of domestic bliss to act in Bandini as Kalyani ...a performance archived and shown to aspiring actors in FTTI .

Marriage has nothing to do with expressing talent and creativity so why do we as a Nation reject actresses who have settled down in matrimony as serious contenders for main line cinema ? .

In recent years there is only Kareena Kappor who can be considered a torch bearer for the fraternity. Kajol, Madhuri, Juhi ..all superstars a few years back make intermittent appearances but have lost that sparkling status in the industry that was theirs by right. of their talent and hard work.

When do we?
Ash, kareena, kajol are all getting work

It is just an excuse. They marry when they are almost out. So we cannot say rani mukerji is jobless coz we rejected her post marriage..we rejected her way before by 2009..so if she is jobless..it is not marriage but other reasons

Same with madhuri karisma etc..they were almost out and decided to get married..again, even if they didn't marry..they were on their way out anyway

Most of these just get married when they are out of work to put blame on marriage..that is not the case

Kajol has done better work post marriage

She is getting 5cr in a rohit shetty movie opp srk

Any current top actress would kill for that..not to forget she rejected the likes of kank, 3idiots etc

She is still a superstar she was before. Marriage didn't harm her but madhuri is done thanks to her terrible choices than marriage and juhi chose to become a character artist..she is like farida jalal of 90s now but again she was done by 97 itself..way before marriage

Moving on ...will a time come when married woman can make a successful debut in Bollywood ? Again I recollect just a single claimant to that achievement .Chitrangada Singh impressed when she arrived in a Sudhir Mishra film ..Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003).

@ cougarTown
Agree with you partially .Do not think Kajol did better work post marriage and have heard that she has opted out of that film with SRK for personal reasons.

Rani, Karishma...even a powerhouse like Shabana were sidelined .The reason is because we do not have many women centric scripts ...the female lead is just seen as a decorative member of the cast who should be able to sing, dance and look eye candy.

There are winds of change definitely ...Vidya Balan has managed a few good films post marriage.

But you are right in saying that often it is the actresses themselves who lose the steam .Some one like Rani can order a script to her choice .

Hope that she will.
