Feisty, fearless women back in soaps



In the recent times, daily soaps on TV have seen a spurt in women centric shows that have spunky, headstrong girls in title tracks, who are shown standing up for their rights and dreams. Instead of focussing on love stories and the adarsh bahu broiled-in-family-politics storylines, there are a number of serials on air now and coming up, that tell stories of feisty young women, who have dreams they want to fulfil and become achievers. These strong women characters are making TV viewing for women different and a more interesting experience.



Maharakshak Devi

This show is about a superheroine fighting baddies to bring justice to one and all. A part of the Maharakshak trilogy of the channel, the show tells the story of a girl who discovers her superpowers and sets out to combat contemporary social evils. The show makes use of cutting-edge visual effects and graphics to show Devi played by Umang Jain, taking down the baddies.




Dreamgirl

Dreamgirl is the story of a young spunky small town girl who wants to be an actress since childhood. The show sees her convincing her father of her acting prowess and heading to Mumbai from Rajasthan to conquer her big dreams. Her hardships, hurdles and journey towards stardom make up the main storyline of this show where Nikita Dutta plays the lead role.





Kalash - Ek Vishwas

This show deals with the immense faith of an ordinary girl, Devika, in goddess Ambe and portrays the unconditional relationship shared by her and the divine. The serial, which has Aparna Dixit playing the lead role, also draws relevance from the current state of affairs of women in our country.







Tere Shehar Mein


This show tells the story of a young pampered globetrotting girl who learns independence the hard way after she loses her father, someone who used to pamper her silly. It shows her transformation and coming-of-age while she is forced to shift to Banaras from Paris. Hiba Nawab plays the title role in this show.





Manmarziyaan

This upcoming show is a social drama that revolves around a young girl who has dreams of building a career and living life on her own terms before she gets caught up in the conventional set-up of getting married and settling down. Audiences are being introduced to the show with the main character pleading her parents to allow her get a job and live life on her own terms before they get her married off.





Razia Sultan

When talking about strong Indian women, how can Razia, the Sultan of Delhi, not be mentioned? This show, based on her, traces the journey and extraordinary life of this warrior queen and the only woman ruler of both the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal period. Pankhuri Awasthy plays the title role in this historical drama.





Udaan

Udaan, which has been on-air for a few months now, tells the story of Chakor, a young bonded labourer girl who wants to break the shackles of forced labour and educate herself for a better tomorrow. She is shown facing a lot of hardships and struggles to strive to earn her right to education. Seven-year-old Spandan Chaturvedi plays the title role of the feisty Chakor.

Of course, Amaya is the main lead...but it would be unfair to Sneha, Rachi and Jazz...if they are not mentioned...ATM...all four Mathur ladies are in the same boat...their struggles, insecurities are the same... and they are support to each other in bad times.

All the characters have significant roles in the show but channel always promotes who they consider as main lead. This happens with all the shows.
