This is a term I picked up after coming to IF for my previous show...

"TRP aunties"

... who are they? Do they represent a particular audience demography? As frankly those poor souls get blamed for anything from regressive track, slot change to anything loud...making me want to sometimes blame them for even KP's "sleek" hair style ..Just kidding (dont kill me 😳).

Just an observation😉😆

Lol Gan!!!
I got the term from IF too- I guess it is just mainly used for the guys who keep the Tv on at whichever channel it is while doing other work and are not really bothered about what is being shown. Just my POV.

They are TPR aunties because why would any uncles be allowed to dictate TV watching in this female dominated tellyworld? 😆

Additions to my above post as part of my quick study break:

#it's all about the ovaries
#go woman kind
#claim the TV
#just please stay smart about it for the sake of YHM

Pardon me if this makes no sense...I'm on hour 13 of studying but I will update my reserved post tonight or early tomorrow US time! 😊

TRP aunties are the excuse for melodrama in hindi soapdom. They are not necessarily aunties ( some are nani's and a few are uncles) but they are the fearsome demographic who apparently dictate what we see on our screens. They are the excuse for creatives without creativity to unleash their mediocre storytelling skills on the junta. They are the reason why an intelligent slice of life show has turned into an OTT melodramatic crapfest. They are the excuse on which the production house can indulge their nepotistic preference for one actor at the expense of every other character. They do not like intelligent flawed men. Nah nah nah. Their heroes must be guilt ridden half-men, their heroines larger than life sacrificing paragons of virtue.
I hear the TRP system in India is changing next month. Dare we hope for a new approach to the ratings wars where intelligent storytelling triumphs over sinister vamps and helpless bahus??? Dare we hope that we may get our RKB back? I have given up on the puttar wars. I have retired gracefully from the field. Yet a tiny flicker of hope still lingers.

Dammit, Good Friday is so boring.

Haha thanks! :)

No I just think estrogen beats out testosterone when it comes to the TV except for major sports days. But with great power comes great responsibility, so the TRP aunties need to start thinking like modern women who strive for equality & justice...not gross mahanta and mute men.
Ok odd rambling over.

Main message - TRP aunties appear to control the TV in their homes but need to start expanding their horizons. No woman should strive for a mute man bc testosterone is needed to keep the estrogen in check! 😉

I have a feeling it will not make a difference.the genre of indian prime time TV changed from realistic stories about human existence of humlog, Buniyad, Tamaaas to EK's genre of 'louder is better' shows... With only aim to stay in the top 10 and run for years ... No story can run for years without it losing steam.. But somehow that seems to be the only aim these days.

I still have hope.. Rather hoping beyond hope that the team will reemerge from this horrible streak of melodrama and go back to writing meaningful episodes. They can't always blame the audience... Good tv has its audience too.. Only the ph / channels needs to stop salivating for TRP numbers to garner more ad revenue. YHM itself is a case study of a good show butchered in TRP block

Are you back from your vacation ?
