TRP aunties are the excuse for melodrama in hindi soapdom. They are not necessarily aunties ( some are nani's and a few are uncles) but they are the fearsome demographic who apparently dictate what we see on our screens. They are the excuse for creatives without creativity to unleash their mediocre storytelling skills on the junta. They are the reason why an intelligent slice of life show has turned into an OTT melodramatic crapfest. They are the excuse on which the production house can indulge their nepotistic preference for one actor at the expense of every other character. They do not like intelligent flawed men. Nah nah nah. Their heroes must be guilt ridden half-men, their heroines larger than life sacrificing paragons of virtue.
I hear the TRP system in India is changing next month. Dare we hope for a new approach to the ratings wars where intelligent storytelling triumphs over sinister vamps and helpless bahus??? Dare we hope that we may get our RKB back? I have given up on the puttar wars. I have retired gracefully from the field. Yet a tiny flicker of hope still lingers.
Dammit, Good Friday is so boring.
