Actor Aamir Khan today rued that a whopping 80 per cent of children are forced to watch content not made for them and described the phenomenon as 'scary'.

"If you look at our children's content, it's almost negligible, and the little that I see is very scary... It scares me to see the kind of children's content they are making," Aamir Khan said at the annual FICCI Frames event in Mumbai.

He said that 80 per cent children are watching content not made for them.

He further said the film industry should focus on inculcating values like honesty and caring in the content, which will help in shaping a child's mind.

"We as a creative industry or media have a huge opportunity in front of us. Huge opportunity in building the nation with how we make children perceive what is honesty," he said, ruing that these days the society isn't valuing the virtue of honesty.

"Today, unfortunately, we are in a time where dishonesty is looked upon. How do we bring in a quality that people can admire?"

He said the industry, which is the biggest in the world, has the unique opportunity to "transform the way we think, the way we address issues."

The 50-year-old actor said the industry can have an impact on a generation of people if they made suitable content for children.

"This is what I feel whether it is the television industry, or the film industry or the media, here is an opportunity for us, to transform and contribute to nation building. We can change a generation of children," he said.

But nudity in your most recent film wasn't appropriate for the kids now was it? (No disrespect meant because I love him, but just being honest).

The industry is not a babysitter or nanny to watch after kids. It is the parent's responsibility to monitor their kids viewing.

C'mon Aamir, you are no Disney channel either.

He's specifically talking about children's programs here. He's been very clear that his movies are not for kids at all. He's actually talked about not letting his own daughter watch Ghajini and Delhi Belly because of content.

I don't live in India so I don't know if he's right about the content of children's programs or not. And to an extent I also agree that it is the parents' responsibility to monitor what their children are watching. But if he's right, and 80% of kids' programs are scary then what is a parent to do? Keep their kids from watching anything? Is that practical in today's world?

His point also is that by making good programs we can change the next generations for the better. His thought process is not necessarily incorrect or wrong. I think it's just might be another case of pointing out problems without offering any solutions.
