| Sanjeevani is getting back on air as Dill Mill Gaye. How does it feel to bring Dr Shashank Gupta back to life? Sanjeevani is close to my heart as it was my first tryst with television. I had loads of fun playing the character because Shashank is the closest to Mohnish as well. How will you cope with the three-year gap the Sanjeevani doctors have suffered since it went off Star Plus? |
At the time, it sounded good; I liked the character brief and the production house. I was an industrialist, Suyash Mehra, in Kahaani. I had two more shows, Devi and Kaalchakra, but they didn't quite work either. The audiences didn't know me when I did those serials, which was a good thing to happen because the failure got swept under the rug. You had a negative role in Devi. Wasn't that bitter-sweet as a return to cinema when you played negative roles?
I entered the film industry in 1982 with the intention of becoming a hero and failed miserably, after which I got a negative role in Sooraj Barjatya's film Maine Pyaar Kiya. Then another big role was their next big project Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, after which I did villainous as well as brother's roles simultaneously. I did a negative role in Devi and a positive one in Sanjeevani, so it has been a mixed bag for me. I am not looking for any kind of image. How much have you changed as an actor?
I still think I'm a newcomer on TV as compared to being on the big screen, because change is very quick here. But over the years, I've mellowed.
Any movies you are looking forward to?
have Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi with Vikram Bhatt coming up where I play a character with negative shades. I'm not really the bad guy, but I do manage a few upsets. Till then, it's just television for me.
