Chapter 39

Zoya was about to follow Asad when Tanveer came in front of her. "Asalamalaikum Zoya...aapse milkar accha laaga," Tanveer said with a smile. Zoya could see right through Tanveer's malicious eyes and smile. She could see how fake she sounded and looked. She wanted to slap her so hard across her face that she would lose her memory of this house and Asad. Zoya didn't say anything and just left from there. She had more important things to focus on, like talking to her husband. As Zoya left, all eyes were glued on Rashid now with thousand questions. "Shukriya khalo, hum aapka yeh ehsaan khabhi nahi bhulenge," Tanveer said. Rashid called Usman and asked him to open up one of the guest rooms for Tanveer. Tanveer took her bag and followed Usman inside. "Abu...yeh aap ne kya kardiya?" Farhan asked. "Main kya karta Farhan...waseem ka chehara baar baar mere aankho mein aaraha tha," Rashid said emotionally. "Aur issliye aapne Asad koh takleef dehdi. Aap ne yeh theek nahi kiya!" Dilshad said getting livid at him. "Dilshad tum toh meri baat samjo," Rashid pleaded. "Rehne dijiye," Dilshad said as she left from there. The rest of the family members too left leaving Rashid alone. He didn't know what he did was right or not. He couldn't just let his friend's daughter to live on the streets. He knew what she did was wrong. Of course, it was horrible! But he had promised his dying friend to take care of her. That definitely didn't mean that he would forgive her too. He would let her stay here for the next couple days and then sort out the issue. May be he would get her some job somewhere or shift her to some other city. He couldn't afford to disrupt his family for someone else. Rashid pressed his hand on his temples. When Tanveer had called him, he had hoped that he would just send her back to where she came from. He hadn't expected her to just show up at the house. "Allah...main kya karoon? Meri madad kijiye," he prayed. It was going to be a hard process to explain his thoughts to his family. He decided that he would let the matter cool off a bit and then will talk to everyone.

Zoya reached her room door to hear glass splashing inside. She knew he was angry...he was in pain. His past probably came back rushing at thousand miles an hour. What was she doing to do? She had tried so hard and bought him out of his dark hole and make him live again. Zoya opened the door. Her breath seemed to become trapped in her throat. She felt her heart ache in concern. There was glass scattered on the floor. Their coffee table was in pieces and one of the windows was broken. His hand was dripping with blood which had stained his white shirt. She quickly went into the bathroom and returned with a jug of water and the first aid box. Zoya placed them near the bed and looked at him. He hasn't even reacted to her. She took a deep breath to calm herself. Zoya slowly walked up to him. Without saying anything, she walked up to him and grabbed his arm. "Zoya please, mujhe thodi dher akele rehna hai," he firmly stated. "Chaliye mere saath!" she requested. "Mujhe akele rehna hai," Asad stated. Her eyes drifted from his furious looking face to his bleeding hand. "Aapko chot lagi hai, please mujhe isse dekhne dijiye," she said. As she was about to touch his hand, he moved away. "Yeh chot tumari wajase nahi laagi hai," he told her. Zoya was hurt but she masked her pain and stepped closer. "Lekin aap...," she said when he interrupted her. "Maine bola na jao yaha se...let me alone!," Asad yelled as he looked up at her. Saying that, he turned away from her with his back towards her. Zoya felt her heart break into a million pieces. He had pushed her away the moment trouble had come their way. Was that it? Was their relationship so fragile? Her head started to spin, she felt darkness flash in front of her eyes. Her arm reached for him. As it touched his back, he jerked her arm. She tripped backward to the floor as tears stung her eyes. The broken glass on the floor cut her palm that she had placed on it for support. But, she didn't care. She just sat there looking at him. His back was towards her and he hasn't even realized that she had fallen. More tears rolled down her face. It seemed like time had spun its wheel and they have traveled back more than a year ago. She knew he was hurt, angry but what did she do? She thought. She gathered herself from the floor and walked out of the room, slamming the door shut. Asad heard the door close. He knew he had hurt her. But, his pain was his. She didn't deserve this. His past had come gushing back into his life but she didn't deserve to be part of it. It will give her nothing but pain. She deserved to be happy. And that would only happen if she stayed away from him.

Zoya left the room and ran out to the Khan garden, the place that provided her solace whenever she was troubled. She went outside and took a seat on the swing. The moments of that morning ran through her mind. Everything seemed so perfect till yesterday. What could a day do? She thought. Till yesterday, she had everything she could ever ask for. And today, a storm had passed through her perfect life. "Kyun Allah miyan, kyun kiya aapne aise," she cried looking at the sky above. "Aabh problem aapne bheji hai toh aapko help bhi karna padega," she scolded looking above, in the sky. She wiped her tears away. "Tum aise haar nahi maan sakthi Zoya! Tume himmat rakna hai, umeed rakni hai. Isski umeed se tumne Mr. Khan ka pyaar paaya tha. Toh tum aabh haar kaise maan sakthi ho?" she questioned herself. Seeing Tanveer and Asad being so angry, she had lost hope. But, she was Zoya. She didn't lose hope. She would do anything and everything to get life back to what it was. She would do whatever it takes to fix everything. Zoya started to walk back when her tracks stopped seeing who was the back door. It was her! "Hume aapse baat karni thi Zoya," she said. "Ha bolo Tanveer," Zoya said. "Woh actually mujhe aapse maafi maangni thi, joh bhi huwa main bahut sharminda hoon," Tanveer said pleadingly. "Dekho Tanveer tume yaha Abu ne rehne ki ijazat di hai uski main izzat karti hoon lekin tumne joh takleef Mr. Khan aur mere parivaar koh pauchayi hai usse bhul paana itna asaan nahi hai," Zoya replied sternly. Tanveer was a little surprised at the honest reaction. "Excuse me," Zoya said asking for way to get into the house. Tanveer moved aside and Zoya walked into the house and out of sight.

Walking back into the house, she saw Dilshad sitting the living room. Zoya walked up to her. "Ammi...aap theek toh haina?" she asked worried. Dilshad quickly wiped her tears. "Joh mujhe tumse poochna chahiye, woh tum mujhse pooch rahi ho," she said. "Yaha aao," Dilshad said asking for Zoya's hand. Zoya placed her left palm in hers but immediately winced in pain, and took her hand back. "Allah...kya hua?" Dilshad asked as she quickly stood up and examined Zoya's hand. "Yeh chot kaisi beta? she asked concerned. Zoya recalled Asad pushing her and her falling to the ground. Tears collected at the rim of her eyes but she blinked trying to contain them. "Zoya, yeh Asad ne kiya hai?" Dilshad asked. "Nahi Ammi, aisa nahi hai. Yeh bas galati se hogaya," Zoya defended. Dilshad took her and made her sit on the sofa with her. She ordered usman to get the first aid box promptly. Within minutes, Dilshad had cleaned the wound and bandaged it. "Thank you Ammi," Zoya said with a slight smile. "Beta, tum theek toh hona?" Dilshad asked, caressing her cheek. "Aabh main theek hoon," she replied. "Zoya, main jaanti hoon keh Tanveer koh yaha dekhar Asad aur tume bahut takleef huwi hai. Lekin Rashid unke dost...," Dilshad was explaining when Zoya intervened. "Nahi Ammi, please aisa mat boliye. Asad abhi gussa hai lekin main unne samjane ki kosish karongi. Aur Ammi, kissi ek insaan keh aane se main Asad koh apne se door nahi jaane deh sakthi," she said. Dilshad smiled hearing her words. She cupped Zoya's face in her hands and pecked her forehead. "Allah kare tum aur Asad ki khushiyo koh khabhi kissi ki nazar na laage. Hamesha khush raho," Dilshad blessed. Zoya smiled as she wrapped her hands around her mother and pulled her into a hug. She took a breath, gaining courage to go up to her room and see Asad. "Sabh theek hojayega," Dilshad said as she patted her back. Zoya nodded and broke apart from the hug. "Main aati hoon," Zoya said as she stood up to go to her room.

Asad sat on his bed, his head buried in his hands. He had gone out to look for her and what he saw melted his heart. He saw his mother and wife hugging as his mother consoled Zoya. He could see it in her eyes the pain he had caused her. He was so confused. What was right? To keep her close and hurt her? Or to distance her and still cause her pain? He didn't know. And Asad Ahmed Khan hated not knowing what he should do. Just then, the door opened and he could feel her walk in. Zoya saw him on the bed and her eyes immediately shifted to his hand that was injured. She could still see the dried blood on it. Her eyes filled with tears. He was in so much pain but he wouldn't let her share it. Why? Why was he so stubborn? She sighed. If he was stubborn then so was she. She went to the bathroom and returned with fresh lukewarm water. Zoya went to him and carefully took his hand. She dipped his hand in the water to clean off the dried blood. As the scars touched the water, he flinched. She looked into see the anguish this whole ordeal had caused him. It was much more than the pain the warm water was causing him. She then took a cotton towel and slowly dried his hand. She cleaned the wound with an antiseptic, applied some healing cream, and wrapped his hand so it can heal. Asad just sat there looking at his wife. She surprised him every time. Just when he thought that she was an open book, she opened a new chapter in front of his eyes. Will he ever understand her in this life time, he thought. Here he had hurt her just few hours ago and here she was, providing relief to his wounds. After she finished, Zoya was about to leave but his hand on her wrist prevented her from doing so. "I am sorry," he said. The tears she tried so hard to hold on now rolled out of her beautiful eyes. He got up from the bed and walked closer to her, still her hand in his grasp. "I am sorry Zoya, aaj subhe mujhe itna gussa aagaya keh maine tume..," he said, unable to finish. She removed his hand from his and turned around. "Toh aapne kya? Aapne yeh faisla karliye keh aapko Zoya ki kohi zaroorat nahi haina?" she asked. "Nahi Zoya, aisa nahi hai," Asad said. "Toh kyun aapne mujhe apne aap se door kiya. Kyun Mr. Khan? Kya sirf main aapki khushi ki haqdaar hoon? Kya kohi takleef ya dard aate hi aap mujhe apne aapse door kardenge? Sirf itna hai humara rishta," she said hurt. Asad shook his head. "Nahi Zoya...main...," he tried to explain but Zoya was too furious to listen. "Mujhe kuch nahi suna hai. Aap mere shohar hai aur main aapki biwi. Haq hai mere aapki har cheez par, aapke khushi par hai toh aapke dard aur dukh par bhi hai Mr. Khan," she said, as her cheeks became wet with fresh tears. Asad knew that she was right. He didn't know what to say. He wasn't good with words, how will he tell her why he had done what he did. Asad took her face in his hands and sealed her lips with his. Zoya was a little surprised with his actions. But, his touch seemed to tranquil the fire inside her. He deepened the kiss as she started to respond. They broke apart, "I am sorry Zoya. Tanveer koh yaha dekhar mujhe kuch samaj nahi aaya. Main nahi chatha tha keh tume main takleef doon," he told her honestly, as they stood together with their foreheads touching. "Mujhe isse takleef nahi keh aapko gussa aaya Mr. Khan. Iss baat se hai keh aapne aapki dil ki baat mujhe aaj bhi baata nahi sakthe," Zoya told her. "I know Zoya, mujhse galati hogayi. Mujhe shayad aaj bhi apni dil ki baat theek se bolni nahi aati," he said. "Aap lucky hai Mr. Khan keh aapko ek smart biwi mili hai joh aapke bina bole hi aapki baat samaj jaati hai," she said making him smile. Only she could make him smile in a situation like this, he thought as he looked at her lovingly.

Later, Zoya took the jug of water and first aid box back to the bathroom. She called Usman and told him to clean the broken glass and other things from the room. "Neeche chalenge?" she asked turning to Asad. "Tum jao, main yehi theek hoon," he told her. "Aap theek haina Mr. Khan?" she asked worried. "Main theek hoon," Asad said. She could see that he was telling her the truth. Zoya smiled at him and left. The rest of the day had been extremely stressful in the khan household. The family was still trying to understand the events that had taken place. Asad, sat in his room, trying to understand why his father had allowed his ex-fiance to live in their house. How could he? He thought running his hand through his hair angry, frustrated, annoyed, he didn't know. He had so many emotions running through him at the moment that he didn't have a word to describe them. On the other side, Naseem khala informed Zoya that dinner was ready. She told Usman to inform everyone that she had asked them to come for dinner and that they had to come, for Zoya. She went to call her Asad. She was aware that it was going to be a difficult task to get him downstairs but she had to try. She opened the room door to see him still sitting on the bed where she had left him. "Had he really not moved all these hours" she supposed. She composed herself, "Mr. Khan, chaliye dinner ready hai," she said acting as casual as possible. He didn't move an inch nor did he say anything. "Mr. Khan...aap sunrahe hai?" she asked as she walked closer and placed her hand on his shoulder. He looked up and she could see tears on his cheeks. Zoya was horrified. "Mr. Khan aap...," she said cupping his face in her hands. He snaked his hands around her belly, "Abu aisa kaise karsakthe hai Zoya...how could he?" he said. She could feel his pain in his voice. Zoya didn't know what to say. She didn't have an answer to that question. May be Abu had his reasons for what he did, she wanted to say. But decided against it. "Sabh theek hojayega Mr. Khan...Allah sabh theek kardega," she prayed with her eyes closed. "Tum itni normal kaise hosakthi ho?" he asked breaking apart and looking at her. Zoya took a seat next to him and wiped his tears. "Mr. Khan...ek insaan keh humare zindagi mein aane se humari zindagi badal toh nahi sakthi. Aap koh Tanveer se yaha aane se itna farak padtha hai?" she asked. "Of course not Zoya! I don't care about her. Is that what you think?" he asked angrily. "Mr. Khan aap galat samaj rahe hai. Main samaj thi hoon keh aap Abu keh faisle se naraaz hai lekin aap toh mujhse baat karsakthe hai. Chup rehne kohi bhi problem solve nahi hoti hai," she said hurt. "I am sorry...mujhe chilana nahi chahiye," he said. "Aap jaante hai keh jab bhi aap chilate hai, mujhe accha nahi lagtha," she told him honestly. "I know I am sorry. I just didn't know how to react," he shared as he pulled her into a hug. "Main samaj thi hoon par Mr. Khan...saara din kamre mein band rehne se ya khana nahi khane se sabh theek nahi hoga," Zoya said cuddling close to him. "Tum itni calm kaise reha sakthi ho?" he said surprised how she is not having an outburst like he had. "Mr. Khan, maine apni saari zindagi ek aise ghar mein bitadi jaha sirf ek insaan mujhe pure dil se apnaya tha," she said referring to the Siddiqui household and Humaira. "Yaha toh itne saare log hai jisne mujhe itna saara pyaar aur izat di hai, toh ek insaan keh aane se mujhe farak nahi padtha. Mujhe iss ghar keh aur humare rishte par baroosa hai Mr. Khan," she stated. Asad smiled for the second time that day. "You know I love you," he said placing a kiss on her forehead. She smiled and broke the hug, "paata hai," she said pecking his lips. She stood up, "aabh chaliye?" she said putting her hand out for him. He joined his hand with hers and they left the room.

The family sat at the dining table when they saw the couple walking down the stairs. They were all surprised. They didn't expect Asad to join them for dinner. Dilshad knew it was Zoya who had made that possible. "May Allah bless her!" she thought. As they both neared the table, a figure came in from the other side halting their walk. Zoya squeezed his hand that had stiffened up again. She pulled him along and made him sit in its usual place. She started serving everyone with the help of Naseem khala. Except one plate which was skipped: Tanveer's. Tanveer felt her blood boil...how the heck can they ignore her? Everyone was pretending that she was invisible. It made no difference to them. After serving everyone, Zoya too took a seat next to her husband. Dinner was a silent affair but Zoya was glad that she could at least bring them all down in one place. One step at a time, she kept telling herself. Asad finished eating due to Zoya's constant enforcement. He stood up to leave when, "Asad beta, mujhe tumse baat karni hai," Rashid said stopping him. Asad just kept walking. "Asad please," Rashid said again. "mujhe aapse kohi baat nahi karni hai," Asad said angrily as he turned to face his father. Zoya left her plate and rushed to his side. "Tumara naraaz hona sahi hai, main samaj tha hoon," Rashid said. "Nahi Abu aap nahi samaj the, lekin main samaj tha hoon. Aap koh aap keh dost important the lekin mujhe kaisa lagega yeh nahi soocha!" Asad said hurt. "Aisa nahi hai Asad, meri kuch waja thi," Rashid pleaded. "Aur woh waja mujhse zyada important hai," Asad told him. "Aisa nahi hai Asad...tumse zyada kuch important nahi hai," Rashid said moving forward. "Bas! Aapne aapka faisla le liya aur aabh meri baari hai Abu," Asad roared and left from there at lightning speed. Zoya looked at a teary Rashid sympathetically and followed her husband. Rashid broke down burying his hand in his palms. Dilshad rushed to his side, trying to console him. Tanveer stood in the background, "haye Allah...main aakar ek din bhi pura nahi hua aur baap bete mein takrar hogayi. Paata nahi main yaha aur chaar din rahi toh paata nahi kya kya hoga," she said in her mind as a wicked smile flashed through her face.

So what is Tanveer's plans? Why is she here? How is Zoya going to handle Asad? Will Asad forgive Rashid? Keep reading to find out!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments and feedback 🤗 I know a lot of you are not happy abot Tanveer's entry but let the story play out. I kind of have a plan for the future story, please let me write it out 😳 Can't wait for your comments on this chapter 😃
