It's like ages that I haven't visit here. Just finished reading. Story is getting more interesting with political discussion and them trying to adjust with new arrangement.

I also love animals. Cats are cute but I like dogs. I feel that cats are mean and selfish😛 And dogs are more friendly with us, faithful and protective towards their owner.

So they are collecting animals for future.

Looking forward. Thanks for updating.

Welcome back.

I generally like cute puppies and kittens though I don't own any. I prefer them to be left on their own doing whatever they want. I have a thing against pets 😊

28. Romanticism and Alienation

"Few months ago I asked all of my friends - if I were to die, how long would it take for them to find out." A civilian traveling with the company told Akash. "I did freelance work, did most of my work from home and my social life was restricted to weekends."

"How long?" Akash asked.

"My family - obviously immediately. If it's not made public in social media, then my friends would probably get to know in...two to three months." The man replied.

"Come on." Akash scoffed.

"We are disconnected on a physical level. Unplug from internet, we become completely alienated."

You have just hit the nail on the head with the modern way of staying connected. Social media has taken away the human touch in my humble views while it connects millions. I am in marketing so I should not be putting it down. However, I find people are getting lazy and instead of picking up the phone and talking to someone, they text or tweet or Facebook, etc . . . Status changes become a way of keeping up with what is going on in other people's lives. This guy is bang on in his estimate if it were to happen in the normal circumstances but we are in an epidemic situation, so most of those so called friends are probably dead without their status being updated.

The guy is retrospecting. Of course now even communication has to be relearned in old ways as the concept of internet is gone.

I was asking a friend of mine (a writer on IF, actually) about the very same question. She said, "Let's say you stay away from all sorts of social media. Google generally knows where you are - if you have signed in to its account, or google-d, etc. And then there is Whatsapp - it kinda notifies you, unless you have specifically set, if you have opened Whatsapp or not. Or, if you have some basic cellphone with you, i can simply check if your number is online via various apps available. And if everywhere its a negative presence for two days, I will call your mom." 😆

Most of my everyday conversations happen on whatsapp or gtalk. Even phone is quite overrated and that honestly is annoying.

In the olden days, the gift of conversation was special. Those who could speak well, could be funny, could keep an audience engaged, were valued. Some worked to be around those people and learn. Others found themselves lost in social gatherings, were labeled introverts and largely resorted to having small networks to maintain semblance of being "social"

With the advent of social media, the only thing that has changed is the orientation of the ellipse that was. Now some who were earlier probably introverts find an avenue for communication without being judged, being confident and bold even. Others still shudder to see all these "smart ones" and wonder where the art of real conversation has gone

The truth I guess is that human interactions are rather essential. With a post apocalyptic world, the ellipse has most probably changed orientation again. Some who were lost in both the old and new methods of communication, will probably forge the way ahead

Or maybe I am oversimplifying it. But then, I am not in this zombie world, am I? I have the luxury of being rather blase and pseudo-wise ;)

We fundamentally live in the cocoon of the virtual world where you reside under the mountains of statuses you upload on social media. We've become so detached from the physical world. You don't talk, you text. You upload your scrunched face expecting people to enquire your whereabouts. I do not condemn mankind because this was inevitable to cater to our indolence. And our necessity.*rolls eyes*

Everything you need is just a click away. And if it's not, you may be better off being lost.

Rewind back time and action. I would travel a hundred miles to convey you that I am dead. Now I put up a one-liner "Hola! It's my ghost!"

I am in two minds.

I am not completely against social media. I have found my comrades on social media for which I am very very glad. Like everything in life, even social media comes with its own bunch of problems. It isn't necessary now to step out of the house and have a meaningful conversation because the same can be done via GTalk where the parties can talk whenever. Unless of course there is some romance involved 😊

The reason I wrote this part was even with already escalated number of modes of communication, there still exists the alienation from said comrades. I have this friend who I met via IF and we spoke pretty much daily. If not anything, just a hello and how are you. In the busy schedules we all seem to have, it really doesn't take that much time. I call bullshit when people say "oh, I was busy." No, you aren't. No one really is that busy. You just didn't choose to talk because that's not your priority. And that is okay.

So don't say "I am busy I couldn't talk to you". Tell people "I am sorry I couldn't talk because I didn't want to. I had other priorities to look into." Tell them "I cant talk right now because my mind isn't giving me a moment of reprise." Be truthful. If the person is your friend, they will understand and wait for you to talk to them. And if they give you bitchface, move on.

Unnecessary ramblings. 😆

True that. I have pretty much given up on facebook, having not signed in there for months. Every status update seems to be an invitation for self grandiosity. Put an update as "feeling low". There are two hundred likes and fifty people asking "what happened". Self indulgence begins and continues till next superficial status update.
