Niigaam's American tour pays off; will release an album shortly

How did the tie-up happen?

After my tour in the US, I'm beginning to generate interest in the music fraternity here. I am not doing much. My lawyer Nick got it organised.

What is your role?

Bollywood is the 'in' thing there these days. Let them do what they intend to do; I'll match my music with theirs.

Will the album be releasing in India as well?

Once released in America, the song is bound to reach India with or without piracy.

Any incident you've experienced in the US?

I met the legendary singer Chaka Khan in Los Angeles. She invited me home with some of my associates. We listened to tracks from her forthcoming album and they were astounding.

Then she asked me to play her some of my stuff. I had a rough mix of my forthcoming album on my iPod. It's got a classical touch to it, so I wished I had something in English for her.

We were halfway through the first song when she got so emotional about the vocals. She requested me to teach her the way I take the harkat murkis back and forth to the falsetto. It was overwhelming.

You are going to do shows in Germany too?

It's my solo concert in Germany. There could be some German songs, may be from me (laughs)!

You wear a cap these days?

I've been wearing caps for years. It's just that people have started photographing me with a cap on only recently. I guess they want to compare me to somebody!

What else?

I'll make the nation dance to something new in a big way in September. It's going to be a new sound, a new feel, a new spirit.
