Has Varun Dhawan proven he is here to stay?

😉 Badlapur has released to positive reviews and a decent opening. Does that mean the guy has proved himself after 3 commercial hits and one experimental movie? He is doing a lot better than Siddharth. Please share your thoughts. ⭐️

He's definitely on a very right track. The Rohit Shetty movie will guarantee a 100 or even a 200 cr blockbuster for him. So he's all set for the next few years at least. Long term who knows?! Honestly I think it's too early to say that after one major critical acclaim. I'm not necessarily saying he's the next Abhishek Bachchan but I remember that Abhishek got rave reviews for Guru and people thought he had arrived.

I do disagree that he's doing better than Sidharth. Everybody is caught in the hype and momentum of Badlapur and that's fair and wonderful. But again, too soon to make such declaration. Brothers has a holiday opening so it could very easily be Sidharth's second 100 cr film. He's got a Dharma and an Excel film coming up. Just based on his current record he'll get offers and have a job for the next few years as well.

So far, I'd say he's here to stay and doing better than the other newbies too. Badlapur will do more for him than any 100 Cr film can. 100 Cr films don't matter if you don't do your job properly in them.

I disagree that he's balancing commercial and serious cinema. His first three films were commercial and in all three he's basically playing a happy go lucky spoiled brat who wants the girl. His next 3, ABCD2, RS and his brother's films are also commercial films. So far it seems like Badlapur was more a one time experiment rather than him mixing and balancing projects. And based on Rohit Shetty and Dhawan's records I don't expect at least two of his next three films to be any kind of master pieces, well, same with ABCD2 too actually.

And definitely disagree with your last sentence. But that's a matter of personal preference. I know you want to talk about Varun so I'll try not to turn this into a Varun vs Sid thread.
