The falling:
The stone under his foot gave way and he started sliding back, into the bottomless valley.
A thousand thoughts should freak into his head. But nothing seemed materialized.
He was dead silent, as though accepting the fate with open hands.
And there was no alternative left that would stop him, in the mid air, too.
Soon he realized he was floating in the air, and the only difference was, he was sinking into the void.
He saw some paper scraps too were floating along and his eyes caught something on one of it.
A name, a simple one- just six letters in it.
One could easily remember it, he thought.
He read it before his head hit something.

The rising:
The car was moving smoothly. Arjun turned and saw her with a smile and a wink.
It was a winning smile.
She could recognize nearly his every movement, for she was watching and living with it for fifteen days now.
She returned the smile and thought it was not a surprise after he made his uncle arrange this trip to town.
And the wink-
If she was not wrong, soon he was going to do somethi-
"Dhadhaji," he called the driver, "Just take a left here and drive to the riverside," he said sweetly.
This was it.
The driver apparently hesitated and looked at her helplessly.
She thought about it a moment and nodded quietly.
'Just a few minutes near the riverside, then return back to the hospital.'
It seemed an easy and simple plan.
It was his uncle's town, where he grew up. He had told her that he liked it very much to stand near the river in the evenings.
She looked out of her window and watched the things swept away backward. She thought what if everything could go back and she could remember everything of the past and he could remember everything too...
Uncle had told, soon...
But no one was telling her, how long it was for a 'soon'.
Her thoughts went back.
She woke up in a hospital bed with bandages and with sympathetic eyes around.
What crushed her the most was the thought that she was alone, there.
Even now she remembered how she felt then.
It was as though, the whole ward was staring at her.
She thought, if she could get a moment alone, she would cry aloud, but what for?
If someone was going to come and comfort her and give her a soothing hand she would...
But whenever a nurse caught her pent up tears, she would pat her shoulder with a smile encouragingly and give her an injection.
At one point she started liking the harmless injections. That was when her bandages were removed one day and they allowed her to sit, move, talk- but what to talk?
She fell into depression then was diagnosed with hysteria.
It was nearly a week before she heard of Arjun, her husband.
It was another story.
She turned to Arjun who was holding her hand with the free hand, for his other one was still with bandages and hung in a hand-support.
They said his four and a half rib bones had been broken, in that accident.
Thanks to uncle, he didn't first tell me the whole scenario. Even if he had, whether I could have managed the news was beyond me, I would swear.
Anyway he is all right now, at least in a moving shape.
From the moment he opened his eyes he was asking for two things. One (a smile) was me. Yes, we were inseparable since then. Another one was freedom, to go out of the hospital.
At last he won, it took 15 days though. That was what for that winning smile playing on his lips now.
Uncle called her to his room, before this ride. Once saw her face, he smiled, to her annoyance.
"Really," he said, "It's nothing. Just a trip to the nearby town. A half hour at the most. Then he'll be here."
He said it simply.
"Uncle, you know him. I just-"
"I know, it's just the third day after he started walking. You know, now his only chanting is going out just for once. See, I've instructed the driver everything," he stopped and looked at her, "I arranged this trip, particularly for you."
She eyed him in confusion.
"Yes, see you too are here for more than 15 days. At least he is a patient-no, okay, physically too. But you've stayed by his bed more than you deserve- let me finish. Go out, get some air and come. Your duty is always here waiting for you once you returned."
She had to accept his words, for after all it was for Arjun.
"Go to town, buy him a hankie and come back."
She smiled at that instead of herself.
To Arjun her hands were the guarding angels for the last 15 days.
Now, he needed her - to spend time with, to retrace and re-live his past through her- ever since he got that he had lost his memory - at least the last whole year, in the accident.
Thank God, nothing happened to her, he was blessed at least in that.
He'll never let go of this hand, even after he recovered from this mental illness, he swore.
What if he had lost her too in that accident was out of the question.
He squeezed her hand reassuringly.
It was not just a hand for him. It was through which she was pouring life into him.
Uncle had given her a cell phone, for emergency, for enquiry, for doubts in managing situations, if any.
She clutched it tightly in her free hand.
How considerate!
But she did not know a thousand precautions would not help her if a situation was under demand of one thing- the fate...
