After appearing in a Farah Khan film (Happy New Year) it seems Anurag Kashyap is so impressed by her style of filmmaking that he wants to pay a tribute to it. What else can explain Ranbir Kapoor's look in Kashyap's upcoming film, Bombay Velvet?

If you don't believe us take a look here:

The first look of Bombay Velvet

So there he is, Kapoor as Johnny Balraj in Bombay Velvet. Sorry ladies, but his abs are not on display and in that grease-stained genji, he looks more like Shah Rukh Khan in the video of the song Dard-e-Disco. Except he's not playing a dancer. Kapoor's Johnny is a street fighter. Reportedly, Kapoor shot some cage-fighting scenes in the film and had to also undergone intensive boxing coaching for the role.

Bombay Velvet depicts Mumbai over a span of three decades, from the '50s to '70s. It is a story about how the city evolved into a metropolis. While Kashyap's films are mostly closer to reality than its Bollywood counterparts, Bombay Velvet might be an exception.

This film is by far the most commercial and the most expensive film that Kashyap has made. With big Bollywood stars like Kapoor and Anushka Sharma as the lead pair and filmmaker Karan Johar playing the villain of the movie, it is also one of the most anticipated films of 2015.

There have already been a few stumbling blocks for this project, which was expected last year in August. The release was postponed and a lot of time has been spent on post production and edit. There were rumours that the first edit of the film didn't evoke a particularly positive response. Speaking about Bombay Velvet, Kashyap said, "I'm recreating a bygone era but I had not imagined that it needs so much of post production. I'm finally learning what it takes to make a big film."
