Sangram Singh plays the villainous Ashok in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Off screen, however, he is the exact opposite and his co-stars call him "gentle giant" because of his demeanour.
What are the reactions you've got for your bad boy role?
People, especially women, are sacred of me! I think they hate me. But in a way, it tells me that I am doing a good job as a negative character. A few fans who were visiting the sets were shocked when they saw Karan Patel (who plays my arch rival) sitting with me. They thought we don't speak to each other! It was really funny.
Who's the cast member you get along best with?
It has to be Karan. He has become a brother for life.
How did acting happen?
I started as a model and then turned to acting. I did few Punjabi movies and then bagged a role in YHM, my first daily soap. Friends warned me about the erratic schedule of TV shows and how it takes a toll on one's personal life. It is a task but it's all about your mindset.
Were you skeptical about playing the baddie?
I love the negative character that I am playing. In real life I am a simple, peaceful, happy, good boy' and thus get to vent all my frustrations out by enacting this role. An actor's job is all about portraying a character that is different from them and I think I am managing that.
