These were the words Sahir uttered...to shatter the love haze Arzoo was in...these were the words he used to tell her the biggest truth of his existence that he knew would take her away from him...only these and no other ...why??
Why did he not continue and tell her his wife was in a coma and had been so for 7 years...after that the rest would have naturally come out...but he said only this and waited...for her reaction...
Which was...
She didn't believe it...she asked him if he was joking and told him not to...then he said no he wasn't joking ...he had been married ten years back...and ..he waited again...why...what did he expect??
He had fallen in love again and confessed against his will...
He dared to hope
That she would ask how could that be.
That she would question that reality.
That she would look beyond that obvious fact to what lay beyond.
That she would break his belief that no one could possibly accept him with that truth.
That the love he had seen in her eyes meant she would see the desperate hope and longing in his.
But she staggered and stepped back shocked...and what she said was..."Aap Shaadi shuda hain!!"
He wanted to reach out...to go to her..but her outstretched hand telling him to stay away deterred him!
His hope vanished.
He was as unlovable as he thought.
No one would accept him.
Not with his truth.
Not with his faults.
No one could care enough to love him after they knew this about him.
That realization brought anger with it...at himself...
Why did he think she would be different?
Why did he have expectations?
Why did he allow that shell of protection he had built to crack?
He had to make sure history didn't repeat..
He could not open himself to her any more...
He wouldn't let her get close to him any more .
He wouldn't let her hope any more..
It was better she went away...
It was better she moved on...
When Arzoo came and questioned him..." Jo kuch Bhi kaha...kiya...ek pal ke liye Bhi sach nahi tha? "
He once again tried..there was once again that hint of hope...could she have seen beyond what I said..
Did you think it was true?? That's what he asked...
Then realized the futility because the fact that his being married could not be changed.
So he went back to negating everything...
He was tired..
He was fed up..
Of wondering.,.
Of hoping..
Of pretending when everything was real...
Of loving her when he knew she would leave him when she came to know his truth...
That's why he said " Mai thak Gaya hoon tumse pyar Kar..." And stopped!
He had thought she would not heed his words..
He had thought she would see a wounds..
He had thought she would be the one who would lead him out of the darkness that had become his life..
But...
There was nothing left
He was condemned to a life of pain...
He would never have anything other than darkness...
P.S1: This is how we (our joint production) see this story and obviously we don't expect everyone else to see it this way ... this is how we understand his actions, others can have their own interpretations obviously ... he is caught between love, hope, his pain, his past and belief that with his daagh he is not worthy of anyone to love him ... they may love his good side but no one can love him in totality with his reality ... his need to push away arzoo was a part to rebuild his defence mechanism ... he not only thinks that no one can love him ... he also wanted her to stay away from his dark life before it engulfs her too ... The challenge started only when Zaki claimed Arzoo loves him ... Sahir had always thought otherwise and in that moment his past dhoka came back to haunt him ... he thought she was no different and hence he didn't think it could hurt her ... but from the moment the challenge actually started till he told her it was all fake ... every moment strengthened his belief that she actually loved him ... with all her heart and hence the guilt started to set in ... followed by regret and pain! When Zaki threatened to tell the truth ... he decided to do it himself instead ... he always knew he can't have her despite all the love, despite the need, despite how she makes him feel ... because of his fear that he is not worthy ... because of fear that no one will accept him with his pain ... yet he had that hope ... may be she would!
P.S2: None of this means we feel arzoo was wrong in the way she reacted ... from her POV her reaction was totally justified as well
