Nisha couldn't accept it. Viraj was the only guy she'd ever had feelings for, the only one she'd ever trusted. How could he stoop so low?
Nisha would have accepted that Viraj had a girlfriend. She knew she was being unrealistic when she daydreamt about being with him. The weird thing was that his girlfriend was named Aarthi. The same name he'd given to his anonymous friend... Her.
She'd played along though. Patiently heard his stories as he poured them out to the email wali female.
But this was the limit. It still hadn't sunk in. For the umpteenth time she stared at the screen.
"I think I'm falling in love with Miss Nisha. I know she's my student, but still. She's slowly becoming the center of my world. I know she had a crush on me sometime back, but I don't know anymore. What should I do?"
Some time back, she would have been overjoyed to read this. Now, she was just disgusted. He had a girlfriend. He had named an anonymous girl on the internet after his girlfriend. Now he was saying that he loved someone else.
Who would have thought that the the gentlemanly demeanor would be a facade for such a cheap attitude. Nisha didn't want to believe it. Her Viraj was two timing... No.
She sat up and typed: "I don't know. Love can be very tricky. You shouldn't hurry into it."
She decided to sleep on it, hoping that it would turn out to be nothing more than a nightmare. If not, she'd confront him the next day.
Next morning, she reported to Lakshya Academy half an hour earlier than usual. As soon as she stepped in, she saw Viraj pacing around, looking extremely anxious.
Viraj was mentally cursing himself. Why did he have to bring in the fake Aarthi? More importantly, why did he have to fall in love with Nisha right after he'd made sure that her love for him had dissipated? Wait, just because he loved her didn't mean that they had to be in a relationship... She still had to maintain her focus. He still wanted her to.
He had never felt this confused about anything before. In frustration, he picked up a paperweight and flung it hard. There was no startling crash. He looked up in surprise. Nisha had caught the paperweight.
"Oh! I didn't see!" Viraj started to apologize.
"It's OK Sir! I saw. In fact, I'm seeing things very clearly now." Nisha replied coldly.
Viraj was a little shocked at her tone. She'd been distant lately but never cold. "What do you mean, Miss Nisha? "
She threw the paperweight back at him. He caught it raising an eyebrow. "Let's go to your cabin." Nisha said in the same cold tone.
He obliged, holding the door for her as she walked in. Nisha sniggered. Chivalry. Yeah right.
When they were both inside. Nisha immediately asked Viraj-"How's Aarthi?"
Viraj looked at her in surprise, wondering why she was acting so strange. She'd never spoken to him about Aarthi before.
Seeing his shocked expression, Nisha said: "I'm talking about the real woman, not the virtual one."
Viraj stood up in shock. "How did you know?" Of course, she was the email wali female. Why didn't he realize it earlier? Then he remembered the email he had sent last night. Oh God!
"Miss Nisha, I can explain... "
"Don't! What are you going to explain? Are you going to explain how you have a girlfriend who remains attached to you like you were Siamese twins? Or are you going to tell me why you named a random girl on the internet after your girlfriend? Oh, or are you going to tell me why these two were not enough for you and you want a third girl?" Nisha had been holding back for quite some time now. Her eyes were puffy with tears, her body shaking in fury.
Viraj was too shocked for words. How could she think that way? She was the one sending him anonymous mails and he was at fault?
He opened his mouth to speak again. Again, she cut him short. "No, don't. You were the definition of chivalry to me. I started trusting men because of you. But I was wrong. You're no gentleman! You betrayed my trust. YOU'RE A SICK, DESPERATE, SPOILT MAN-
"NISHA!" Viraj had had it. "You betrayed my trust Miss Nisha! You read my personal cards. You sent me anonymous emails. You acted as if you didn't know anything. You played with my emotions. You're jumping to conclusions. And here you are, giving me a lecture." He was panting in rage now.
Nisha had never seen that much anger and hurt in his eyes. She felt worried for a moment. Then she controlled herself. What business did he have being angry and hurt?
He walked up to her, his hypnotic eyes penetrating hers. In almost a whisper he told her: "I've given you too much liberty. You don't shout at me in my own cabin. You're a student, act like one. My feelings, my actions are my business. Go to the fields and shoot. Now."
Nisha didn't know how to react. He towered over her. She was a little intimidated, though she would never admit it.
She slipped away without a word. She'd only wanted to help him.
Viraj stared at her receding back. He'd only wanted to help her...
