Bollywood box-office report of the week

This Friday will see the release of Anil Kapoor?s Akshaye Khanna starrer, GANDHI MY FATHER and Anubhav Sinha?s Ajay, Zayed, Riteish , Esha, Shamita and Diya starrer, CASH. Though it had to be postponed by a week, due to unavoidable circumstances, CASH, with 100 additional prints (making it a total of 800), is expected to take a flying start and is likely to be the first choice as compared to the brilliantly made GANDHI MY FATHER. Unfortunate but true, especially because Anil had decided on the release date of August 3, months in advance, after assuring that no major movie was slated to release with it.
One cannot ignore another August 3 release! Yes, we are referring to the colorized version of BR Chopra's 1957 classic, the Dilip Kumar, Vyjayantimala and late Ajit starrer, NAYA DAUR. The movie may not be able repeat the magic of the colorized MUGHAL-E-AZAM (2004), but will definitely find its audiences. And nostalgia will be a big reason for that!

David Dhawan?s Govinda, Salman, Lara and Katrina starrer, PARTNER, embarked on a historic initial and maintained it throughout the week. The movie swept the box-office across India, as the collections show. In its first week, PARTNER took home, 6 crores from Bombay, 1.30 crores from Ahmedabad, 4 lakhs from Valsad, 5 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 12.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 5.90 lakhs from Jamnagar, 11.30 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.66 lakhs from Porbandar, 1.54 lakhs from Bhuj, 4.40 lakhs from Gandhidham, 2.40 lakhs from Adipur, 3 lakhs from Kolhapur, 5.10 lakhs from Solapur, 13.90 lakhs from Nasik, 3.20 lakhs from Satara, 2 lakh from Karad, 6.75 lakhs from Margao, 2.85 lakhs from Panjim, 1.90 lakhs from Vasco, 2.49 crores from Delhi, 40 lakhs from Gurgaon, 19.40 lakhs from Faridabad, 22.40 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 36 lakhs from Noida, 13.80 lakhs from Kanpur, 36 lakhs from Lucknow, 10 lakhs from Varanasi, 3.33 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.20 lakhs from Bareilly, 9.90 lakhs from Agra, 7.80 lakhs from Aligarh, 6.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 32 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5 lakhs from Amravati, 3.70 lakhs from Akola, 7.60 lakhs from Raipur, 4.52 lakhs from Bhilai, 1.60 lakhs from Durg, 1.50 lakhs from Gondia, 2.15 lakhs from Wardha, 1.75 lakhs from Rajnandgaon, 3.85 lakhs from Chandrapur, 33 lakhs from Indore, 2.41 lakhs from Sehore, 4.75 lakhs from Bhopal, 2.55 lakhs from Ujjain, 64.30 lakhs from Jaipur, 9 lakhs (gross) from Ajmer, 96 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 crores from Hyderabad and 7.50 lakhs from Aurangabad. Given the collections and the 750 prints (including digital) PARTNER has netted an unbelieveable 30 crores in its first week from India, and the movie is on way to not just hit, but a superhit status in India. This is the second highest first week total for Indian box-office and only DHOOM : 2 has earned more than it. In the Overseas too, PARTNER is a smash hit, having earned $718,872 from the US (up to July 26) and $1,154,220 from UK , up to the second weekend.
