Monopoly of Khans over festive releases will break: Ajay Devgn 24 Nov 2014 12:12 PM | TellychakkarTeam It's well-known that the three powerful Khans of the industry unofficially rule the festival box-office in India. So if Eid belongs to Salman, SRK and Aamir stake claim over Diwali and Christmas respectively. While the Khans normally have an unchallenged run at the box-office during festivals, the fearless Ajay Devgn was one of the very few actors who had the guts to release his movie during Diwali along with SRK. When Ajay'sSon of Sardaarclashed with SRK'sJab Tak Hai Jaan, both parties suffered losses with Ajay's film taking a major hit due to the allotment of lesser number of screens. Despite this both films made over 100 crores which only proves the effectiveness of releasing a movie during festivals. However, after Ajay no one has ever dared to release their films during the three major festive occasions in India except the Khans who if reports are to be believed have already booked all festival slots till 2016. When we asked Ajay about the prevailing monopoly, the actor was more than forthcoming in his views. "Every actor wants his release his film during festivals because the collections are huge. But even if everyone has already pre-booked the festivals, it will not matter. The situation is such that from next year two films will release during festivals." Ajay also opined that the monopoly of the Khans over festivals is not good for the industry. "It's is not good and eventually it will break. It is not right that you decide and say that this date belongs to you. That is what happened duringJab Tak Hai JaanandSon of Sardaar. There was space for both films and both did well." The actor who was given a raw deal duringSon of Sardaarin terms of screen numbers strongly believes that the same situation will never occur in future again when two films release simultaneously. "Yes we have less number of theaters but that is not going to happen again. The distributors have balanced it out now. Ultimately, two films will have to be released because people will have no choice," reasoned Ajay. Ajay's next release is Prabhudheva's action-comic caper,Action Jacksonwhich will open in the first week of December.
