So I am updating dastaan today.. dare to call it short!😡 It is long and I know it..😉 well this is for the busy bee of the forum- Varsha di!🤗 well I don't know if she would read this anytime soon.. but she loves this story and deep down she's one of those few people who encouraged me ( or rather threatened😆) to keep it going when I was discontinuing this story.. Varsha di, am missing you a lot..plzz come back soon naa!🤗 Love you..❤️

Update- Part 19

Somewhere near Agra,

After a long and tiring journey, the royal couple had finally made it to the outskirts of the city! Well, not exactly- but they'll be at the outskirts anytime soon. Given that they do not linger around, making merry like they had from the past hour!

Phew! Jodha begum, this journey is taking more time then it should have.' Teasing her with his killer smirk, he glanced at her from the corner of her eyes, before reverting his attention back to the path that lay before them thereafter.

You mean to say that it's because of me that we're late! Shahenshah, you are...'

I am? Complete your words Jodha Begum...' Winking at her mischievously, his expert fingers quickly made their way to hers and intertwined their fingers.

With no attempt to remove her fingers from his comfy grip, she zeroed upon her words- nothing short of a dagger to counter attack his smirks and winks, Kuch nahi..'

Lekin Jodha Begum..' He said, tightening his grip around those long, slender fingers of her. But, could he ever complete his words with his lady love? No.

Kuch lekin wekin nahi Shahenshah. Wo dekhiye, some people are going towards Agra. How about joining them?' Pointing towards the unknown figures that were strolling towards the city, she looked at him with hope.

I don't have any problem Jodha begum.' Shrugging casually, he added- Provided, they allow me to be close to my wife.' He glanced at her, pure mischief brewing in his eyes. Leaning closer, he said, Very close, Jodha begum.'

Shahenshah!' She uttered, her heard pounding fast, her breathing heavy. She would be lying if she would say that his proximity didn't affect her. It did, and to an extent so intense that it made her heart skip a few beats!

Stepping away from his attractive persona, she lifted her eyes to lock them with his brown orbs. She had, and she would forever love to drown in those eyes. A strange feeling would grip her body and heart whenever he was around. A feeling that was unknown, unnamed. Maybe, it was just a magnetic pull that would compel her to come close to him, to shed all her inhibitions and give him what he craves for, to give him what he deserves.

Shrugging those thoughts aside, she nudged her Shahenshah, who had- by now disappeared into a world of his own. Shahenshah!' Clicking her fingers to grab his attention, she furrowed her brows in mock anger to show her disappointment.

Haan Jodha Begum..' He said, his tone fairly normal.

So it's final. We're going with them!' She replied, that ear to ear smile of hers lingering on her lips.

But Jodha begum...' He couldn't complete his words, his throat had betrayed him. That twinkle in her eyes that shine, that innocence, that puppy look- all meant only one thing. He had to cave in. He had to, and with great pleasure, give in to his queen's antics. And he, very well knew this.

As you say, my queen.' Bowing, he looked back at her, that killer smirk on his lips at its best. So, shall we go?'

Of course!'

After 2 hours...

Raising her hand so as to protect her eyes from those scorching rays of the sun, she stood on her toes to catch a sight of the city. Well, she wasn't entirely wrong- they had been travelling faster than usual and with less frequent breaks, not to mention the interesting' company of the Rajputs they were travelling with!

We're here! We're here!' She'd nearly shouted there, but had managed to compose her tone. Continuing her words on a calmer note, she spoke thereafter. We had managed to make it to the city.' Knowing that her words had met with approving glares, she looked at him. Her loving gazed lingered on him than it should have been. And why not? After all, he was her husband, her love. And most importantly, he was hers. A pleasant smile across her rosy lips as the moments of the divine journey flashed through her mind.

Their coming together.. Then the unexpected attack.. Rescue.. Bitten by a snake.. Almost dead.. their breakdown at the temple.. Salim Chishti's Dargah.. Their lovely moments together.. Everything crossed her mind as she could feel her eyes getting moist. Shutting her eyes close so as to fight the tears that were threatening to move down, she walked up to him- that intense look on her face.

Surprised, he smiled at her, not knowing what to do. That bold look in her eyes was definitely new to him, not to forget the way she was walking. It was something different all together, something very much contrasting to the shy Jodha that he loved.

Taking his hand in hers, she looked at him expectantly, hoping that he would take the cue and throw his arm around her waist. But he didn't. Why would he? When he was enjoying it so much? Not taking his never ending antics to heart, she tightened her hold around his hand and squeezed it a little to show her love. At that point, he HAD to bring her close to him. When she was being bold and taking the first step, then why can't he?

And so they walked to the entrance of the city, joining with the group that had left them behind not so long ago.

Jalal flashed an earnest smile to Adgah Sahab, who was elated to find his Shahenshah and Mallika safe and sound. Gauging his response, Jalal stepped forward and embraced his father like figure as she looked on. Never had she felt more at peace before, her husband- her love was finally transforming into someone who truly loves everyone from his heart. A proud smile spread across her lips as she admired the bond between them.

Shahenshah! I'm so happy to see you and Jodha begum all right! Humein ummeed hai ki raaste mein aapko koi takleef nahi hui hogi.'

He looked in his eyes, and an intense devotion that was glimmering in his eyes shook him. Patting his arm so as to assure him of their well being, he replied. Adgah Sahab, we are all right. See!' Opening his arms wide so that he could see for himself, he couldn't help but chuckle.

At Agra Palace...

Jalal, Jodha!!' Maryam Makani, Hamida exclaimed, recognizing the nearing silhouettes of her son's and dearest daughter in law. Gracefully walking up to them, she embraced the couple with love.

Ammijaan..' They chorused together, before hugging her tight. As they broke the hug, they bent to seek her blessings. It's been so long since you both were gone. Now this palace will feel like home as my children are here.'

Shahenshah, Jodha begum.. aapka safar kaisa raha?' Salima joined in, and so did Javeda begum. Jodha begum! I missed you so much!' She said, as Jodha giggled at the way Javeda said it.

One glance around- it was all it took for Jalal to realize that his friend, his Begum E Khaas, Ruqaiya is missing. The glow on his face vanished to some extent, his eyes lost their gleam. He had, of course missed her! No doubt that he HAD suspected Ruqaiya to be behind the attack, but he was witty enough to realize his mistake and pull that seed of doubt away from his mind. He wanted to talk his heart out to Ruqaiya, to listen to her complaints, to bear her antics and to play chess with her. Sigh. She wasn't here.

Few hours later, Ruqaiya's Chamber.

Humne wahan naa jakar galti kar di.. Itne din hog aye aur hum Shahenshah se mile bhi nahi hain...!' Pacing back and forth in her chambers, the irked Begum E Khaas said, her eyes keenly fixed at the entrance- a part of her hoping that her Shahenshah would soon grace the chamber with his presence.

And then, just when she had hoped, the arrival of Shahenshah E Hind was announced! He's here!' She'd nearly jumped at the prospect of them being together after such a long time.

There, he walked in- and his intimidating persona followed. His face was stern, his eyes- emotionless. She smirked, this was the old Jalal whom she so loved! Egoistic, Arrogant, ruthless Shahenshah with NO feelings for anyone. This was the Jalal who would be near happy when with Ruqaiya, no one else could make him feel' happiness like she could. After all, they were the best of friends, right?

But something struck her- this Jalal was long gone, replaced by the kind, sensible, caring one. Then what about this sudden transformation? Or is that specially reserved for his Begum E Khaas, since she had obviously irritated him by not being present when he was welcomed.

Takliyah!' He shouted, his hands resting behind his back. The anger and frustration in his voice was evident, evident to an extent that it scared her.

S..Shahenshah! Aap... Aap...' Okay, his shouting on her- that was definitely no respite from all the tense situations from the past days. In fact, it only seemed to make things worse.

May I know why weren't you there at the main gate???!!' His tirade showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, his fiery eyes shot deadly glares to her already terrified self.

Looks like he's too angry today... What should I do? Exactly what should I do to butter him... No, no buttering or else I'll get beheaded in no time.. What should I do? Her wicked mind couldn't come with any solution to loosen him up. How could she? When his anger had broken all bounds today, when his eyes were on the verge of killing her? How could she?

Swiftly taking the control of the situation, she walked towards him- her walk shaky and fearful. Well, this was the least she expected when they arrived to Agra. What she had expected was, to have a merry time with her Shahenshah, chatting and giggling, rather than her struggling to break the walls of his anger!

Jalal.. actually, actually..' Nervously glancing here and there so as to find an apt solution, she finally zeroed upon something not so good, yet a temporary solution. Jalal, actually.. I was having a very bad headache since morning... and I didn't even rest when I got to know that you're coming.. so it worsened.. and now, I can't even stand..' Concluding her words, she dropped on the bed, kneading her forehead.

His eyes softened as he realized that she was having a headache. Grabbing her in a jiffy, he placed her gently on the bed, before taking her hand in his grip and caressing in softly. You know Ruqaiyaa.. I missed you so much..'

A wide smile graced her lips as an instant reaction of his words- he still cares for her and cares for her a lot! I missed you too Jalal, I missed my friend a lot..'

And your Shahenshah? You didn't miss him?'

Umm.. I don't think so!' She winked at him, before pulling him in her arms. Soft, silent sobs could be heard by his ears as she continued to snuggle closer and closer. Alarmed, he broke the hug and took her face in his hands, questioning her gently, What happened to my Begum E Khaas? Kuch dino ke liye hum bahar kya gaye, woh toh bilkul badal si gayi!'

Shaking her head in no', the tearful queen replied, putting all his doubts to rest. Jalal, ever since you came close to Jodha begum, you've forgotten everything.' Cupping his face softly, she added, It's not like I'm jealous, I'm definitely not. You know me, right? But, what do I do? You've had uncountable begums in the past- you slept with them, pleasured them. I didn't utter a word! Was it because I didn't care? No! It was because I was CONFIDENT that the only woman whom you love is ME! Jodha begum broke my confidence, she claimed YOUR heart!'

Heart? Ruqaiyaa.. I never had an heart until I met...'

Until you met JODHA BEGUM, right? I know. But seems like Shahenshah E Hind has been smitten by his Hindu begum too much! Too much that you've been oblivious to me.' Fresh tears trickled down her eyes- her heart was finally at peace. Slowly, she was opening up to someone, to him. I'm happy for you Jalal. You've finally found your heart, your love, your life- Jodha begum. I'm happy for you. But what about me? What about my silly heart who's bleeding every day, EVERY DAY because of you!'

Because of me? What are you saying Ruqaiya?' Perplexed, he questioned her.

Every day, every single moment my heart mourns for you Jalal.. The Jalal I knew couldn't spend one day without meeting his Ruqaiya.. where's that Jalal, where's MY Jalal? The Jalal I knew couldn't even think of ignoring me, then what happened to you now? Has love changed you to this extent that you've forgotten our friendship, our bond? ANSWER ME SHAHENSHAH!'

Ruqaiya, listen..'

NO! I am NOT going to listen. I have been with you through thick and thin. I have been at your side during your hard times and celebrations. You promised Abbu jaan that you'll take utmost care of me, give me every happiness of the world. Where's that promise gone Jalal? Hun? Or is it that you're doing it deliberately, because you've finally found someone who's better than me? Is it because she's just the kind of woman YOU wanted- naive, innocent, and all? Wait, why am I asking this?? Of course you've changed for her! You're giving your whole time to her, leaving us all behind!' Her eyes now blood red, she looked at him. She was enraged. She felt deserted. She felt cheated. It was high time she demanded some explanations for his actions, lest she would explode any moment.

YES I LOVE HER! I LOVE JODHA FROM ALL MY HEART AND SOUL!' Grabbing her from her shoulders rudely, he shouted- his anger now breaking all limits. And I fail to understand Ruqaiya, why are YOU having problems with my love?'

Why am I having problems?' She asked, shocked by his sudden sarcasm. YOU are asking me that? Yes I am having problems. Yes I am insecure. And all of this is because of YOU Jalal!'

ME? ARE YOU SERIOUS RUQAIYA?'

YES! You're the soul reason of all my pain. And you know why, because I LOVE YOU!' She had finally said it. She had finally confessed it to him. It seemed like a heavy weight had been lifted from her heart. She didn't know why she'd said it, but is just felt so right. As if she HAD TO say it at that time.

Speechless, he took a step back, not able to take it. No, it hadn't sink in yet. Any other time and he would have probably laughed it off and embraced Ruqaiya, asserting that his heart is already claimed by Jodha. But how could he do so now? When SHE was so distressed, not in a state to process anything that he would say. When she was blabbering like an emotional fool, having no control over her words? When HE was in a turmoil, unable to come on any conclusion? God, if only it could have been a little simpler than THIS!

Jodha's Chamber...

Shahenshah, you here? I thought you were gone to meet Ruqaiya begum...' Evidently surprised by his unexpected arrival, she gestured him to sit thereafter. Jodha begum, can I rest here for a few hours?' His tone was different and unusually low, and she didn't fail to catch it. He looked broken, shattered- as if everything was snatched away from him. What she didn't know was why, why was her love in such a condition? He would never request her like that if he wasn't depressed.

Shahenshah, are you alright?' Concerned, she put her arm on his shoulder, comforting him. I need to rest Jodha begum.' His reply was fair and curt, he was definitely NOT alright. Umm..Sure..'

He walked to her bed- as she continued to spot the difference in his demeanour. His shoulders were dropped as if in great distress, his eyes were swollen, his walk was slow, his tone barely above a whisper. What had happen to him? Joining him in the bed thereon, she stroked his forehead to comfort him.

Why is life so cruelly complicated Jodha begum?' He asked, gazing into the oblivion.

Shahenshah..' She started-his sudden enquiry had taken her by surprise. It all depends on how we look at it. If there's a painful, stinging side to a situation, then there's also a bright, pleasing side to it. All we have to do is to look for it, to search for it until we find it. And when we do, we realize that all our pains were long gone.' Her tone was calm and serene, as if filled with great peace. Somehow, her words seemed to hit him hard.

Ruqaiya loves me... I don't.. what should I say to her? I can see that painful side of this situation but where's the bright side? I don't think there's any... But then Jodha begum's words are so true.. they do seem true to me.. Maybe this is what I have to search for, the bright side of this.. Sigh. If only, he could open up to his Jodha, she could have tried to answer his questions, to put his doubts to rest. Leaning closer, Jodha kissed his forehead, pouring all her love for him through that kiss.

And so he slipped into slumber, Ruqaiya and Jodha's words ringing into his ears.

Jalal's Dream... (Okay, I know it's weird but still!)

He could make out the nearing silhouettes to be of two little ones. A shahzada, he seemed like- the other looking like a princess. He smiled at the young couple, stroking their heads. Jalal, ab aap humare shauhar hain!' The princess like girl said, making the young lad smile.

Aur aap humari begum, begum Ruqaiya!' He whispered, taking her hand in his. They didn't look a day older than nine and the bond between them was already surprising him. Kneeling down, he asked them, ensuring that his voice was soft and friendly.

Aap dono ka nikaah ho gaya hai?'

Haan!' They both chorused together, excitement evident. Smiling at them, he questioned the young prince. Aap inka khyaal rakhenge naa?'

Haan..' He said, his voice determined. Tightening his grip on her hand, he added- Yeh humari sabse acchi dost hain.. Hum inke saath shikaar pe jaayenge, inke saath shatranj khelenge, baatein karenge.. Ye hi humari begum hain!'

Aur aap hi humare shahenshah!' She butted in, her eyes twinkling. Hum waada karte hain ki hum humesha aapke saath rahenge Jalal..'

Hum Hamesha aapke saath rahenge Jalal...'

Dream Ends!

What! Almost jumping off the bed, he glanced at his surroundings. There she was, sleeping innocently, like a small child, clinging to her blanket firmly. All his worries vanished in a second, the second he laid his eyes on her.

A calm smile gracing his lips, he returned to the bed- he returned to her. Running his finger on her cheeks, he uttered. Jodha, I know I acted weird. I'm sorry.' He leaned closer, his lips inches away from hers. Pressing his lips on her cheek, he continued. I love you Jodha..' He kissed her other cheek thereafter.

I Love you too Shahenshah!!' She said, her eyes fully open, gleaming. Jodha? You were awake?'

Yes..' She replied, a proud smile on her lips. I was awake when you were...' She winked at him, purposely choosing not to continue what she started. If there was anything that could pull him out of his trance, then it was surely her. If anything, she could at least bring him back to his cheerful and taunting self, not that low and distressed Jalal that he was, a few hours back.

I.. I need to go.. I need to go to DWK..' He knew where it all was leading to. This bold Jodha was something new that he had discovered today, and though he was very much proud of it- he wasn't exactly thrilled by the idea of playing with her now.

Arre.. you're not going anywhere.. Bass!' Ordering him with a sense of finality, she pulled him back, only for him to land on her.

Ouuch! You're so heavy Shahenshah!' She hissed, almost crushed under his weight.

As if I asked you to pull me..!'

But then how could have I stopped you from going?' Pouting cutely, she asked- her tranquillity and innocence at its best.

At that reply, he had to look in her eyes, and melt. The innocent girl in her was at her best, not to mention her seductive moves. Yeah, all the while she was sweet talking with him, her devil fingers had managed to reach his back, making silly patterns and tickling him.

J..Jodha.Jodha Begum.. what are you doing?' Flabbergasted, he asked her- his moves were surprising, oops! Shocking for him.

What am I doing?' She asked in return, her ever innocent voice such that it could convince anyone. Her puppy eyes and pout complementing her lie.

Jodha begum..' Before he knew it, his lips were claimed. His lips were crushed. Smashing her lips against his with burning passion, she continued to ruffle his hair, her fingers knowing no limits for their mischief today. The passion in her kiss seemed to bring the whole world down. Inexperienced, she looked at him cutely- asking him to guide her through their first kiss. Yes, she had it in her to kiss him, but what could she do about lacking experience?

Understanding her plight, he smiled through his eyes as he nibbled her upper lip. She followed him like a good student. His hands encircled her waist as he marveled at the softness of her skin.

So here we are,finally!😆 So this update had some tidbits of Jalal Jodha, Ruqaiya Jalal and again Jalal Jodha😳 For all the Ruqaiya-Jalal haters, lemme tell you that I am, too not a big of fan of them. But, how about looking at them not as Ruqaiya-Jalal but as two friends, too simple individuals?😃 Okay, got a bit too serious there, I suppose😆

Do hit likes, comments and criticism along with suggestions is what I long for..😳
