Where are they going with this?

Hi Guys,
I've stopped watching DAK but I do keep up with the written updates in hopes that it will be worth watching again. I'm very confused with what message this show is trying to send out.

It's established (now) that the show is highlighting abusive marriages and bringing this ugly truth to the forefront to raise awareness and discourse. That's all good but what I am concerned about is what is this show trying to say?

Samrat is beyond redemption - there isn't a single good quality about him - his entire being is ruled by arrogance and ego not to mention superiority complex - he's a "man" after all therefore he gets a different set of rules and women are mere second hand citizens at best who's role is confined to a glorified housekeeper/nanny/chef and an option for purposes of physical intimacy.
So we know he is past redemption or turning a new leaf and becoming a better person.

Urmi finally found the courage to leave her abusive relationship and charter her own path with out any moral, emotional, financial support. Pretty brave for the timid docile wifey we've seen for so long.

What now though? Urmi tries to stand her ground but is over powered by Samrat pretty much every step of the way and now Samrat has manipulated their son.
Now that Shaurya wants to go with Samrat and believes Urmi has been keeping him from his beloved dad and extended family - this is Urmi's defeat. Aka Samrat wins again.

I think now that Urmi is pregnant again (personally i think she should abort - who needs Samrat's gene pool to progress) but I think CVs are showing this because they will highlight how Shaurya turns out in Samrat's company and how the new baby turns out with out Samrat's influence. Likewise i think Shaurya once grown up will treat Samrat as Samrat treats his own father - and that will be Samrat's lesson - at the very end of his life. While that is satisfying in the long run = I'm not impressed as I wanted the focus of the show to be on Urmi and Urmi's life - how a docile girl with rose tinted glasses and hopes of a peaceful romantic married life gets shattered and how she picks up the broken pieces and faces obstacles head on and emerges stronger with every step.

Hmmm...I never really thought about your last paragraph, if the story will go that way or not...it kinda reminds me of a movie plot I saw a long time ago..

Anyways, I agree with you, I thought this show was gonna show Urmi's journey to finding her feet as well. But idk.

Honestly, as much as I'm annoyed by how easily Samrat overpowers her, I think it also kinda reflects the truth of indian society, especially within regressive villages/ places. The reason why so many women stay with their abusive husbands, is family pressure (Urmi's dad and dadi ring a bell?) financial pressure (Urmi trying to find a place to live) societal pressure (haven't touched on this yet) and just general bullying by the husband (Samrat refusing to back down and letting Urmi leave). So I think although they definitely do overdo it to an extent, I think the CVs are also right in not letting Urmi get away so easily.

Samrat is just beyond redemption. I guess maybe that's another thing the CVs are trying to show? That sometimes you just cannot "fix" people.

And I'm 80% convinced Shaurya will come back to Urmi eventually. There's no way Samrat can keep up the "loving father" act and Shashi will also eventually burst.

And maybe with the baby on the way, the CVs are trying to show that a woman can raise a child by herself? Although that is technically what Urmi is trying to do with Shaurya anyway. Idk, I think the practical thing would've been to abort as well but I don't think Urmi is known for being the most practical person LOL.

Idk, sometimes I feel like we forum people put a lot more thought into the story, in terms of symbolism and analysis, than the actual CVs LOL. It feels like the story comes second to TRPs/elongating the show for them.

What I dislike most about this show is that Samrat, the cheater abuser always wins. This girl has grounds for divorce. The first step should have been a legal one. Maybe laws are different in India, but how about child support financially? Divorce? This man has cheated on her and she walks around crying all the time and suffering. I don't get it! There is no message of relevance here. She should be taking him to court and clean him out of every dime,he has to his slimy name. But again I guess laws and society are different in US. Women in general have no rights worldwide, but why not show Urmi rising above things? When she was happy about the baby and wanting to tell that snake, I was done with this show. Now Samrat will ruin that poor kid. Urmi should grab Shaurya and run far away and raise her kids in peace. But alas this is an Indian serial and Urmi's life was set the day her parents fixed her marriage to this adulterous snake.

I have no idea where they are taking all this! But from recent events and the fact that Urmi is pregnant, I guess they are heading for a leap. But what happened to Urmi's independence? I would've loved to see her defeat Samrat and for his downfall. But perhaps CVs have other plans in mind...

From what I can see right now (i stopped watching) only watched Friday's episode...the storyline is pretty stagnant and CVs are maybe still toying with the idea of uniting Urmi and Samrat - but I think from the feedback they got they won't go that route. They are just stressing the story and working according to TRPs. They are dancing around the main thing that should happen - divorce!
It's safe to say that from the time Urmi left Samrat to now - nothing has really changed...aside from her being pregnant. She is still suffering at his hands...

You know when Urmi's brother gave Samrat those papers, I thought he really cared for his sister and they were divorce papers unfortunately, no one thinks about Urmi including Urmi herself.

Samrat's father is not abusive but I would like to see him slap Samrat's mother once or twice to shut her up! I'm waiting for the day that Urmi tells her to go fly a kite and take Samrat with her. No one should take all that abuse from a husband nor a mother-in-law.

Having worked with abused women for many years, believe me this story is very close to reality - I come from a first world country and this happens even in a city. In this case the woman did not go back - I have seen many women from affluent families return to abusive situations because they have no shelter, money or proper education. Governments and ngo's do not have proper structures in place to assist long term.
