part 5
Roli was shocked to see Siddhant. She went out of the room and picked up the file from the chairs outside the room. She opened it and read the full name of the patient: Mr. Siddhant Bharadwaj. She felt an odd joy in reading his name. But she didn't know why. She went back inside the room. Siddhant was talking to his parents. "Maa. Papa. I will be alright. You know, the doctor came and told me that if we try, I might be able to get my legs working again." "That's great news Siddhant," said Rajendra. "I have full faith that my son will be alright very soon," said Sujatha. "Yes I will be alright, I'm sure. the doctor has already assigned an orthopaedic nurse for me." He looked up at Roli, who was still reading the file, but at the same time she was listening to his angelic voice. "Her name is Roli." Roli was surprised. Her name had never sounded so good before. She loved the sweetness with which Siddhant had said it. Then she scolded herself. "What am I doing?" she thought. "I should be reading this file, not admiring his voice." She went back to reading the file. Siddhant continued talking to his parents, assuring them that he was fine. Then Sujatha fed Siddhant the breakfast that she had brought for him. Roli smiled seeing the bonding between Siddhant and his parents. Eventually, Siddhant's parents left after much insistence from him. Siddhant, although he loved his parents, was somewhat relieved at their departure. Roli had gotten tears in her eyes while reading the file. She felt a deep sorrow for him, which was unexplainable to herself. She had always emotionally connected with her patients but this case was different. When Sid's parents left, Roli got up to introduce herself to him and explain her role in helping him. But as she walked towards the bed, she was still thinking about what she had read in the file. Although his accident was not explained in detail, she knew that he has been hit by a truck in the road. She felt a pain inside herself, which was very new and odd to her. She had tears in her eyes. She bumped into Siddhant's bed, and as she was about to fall backward, a hand stretched out and pulled her arm towards the front to stop her from falling. It was Siddhant. Roli fell completely frontwards now due to the strong pull on her arm, and she was leaning on Siddhant, with only a little space between them. They were lost in each other's eyes. Roli's hair, which was loosely tied, came to the front and was covering her face a little. Siddhant slowly pushed her hair aside and admired her face. After a few moments Roli realized how near she is to Siddhant. She tried to move away but Siddhant was still lost in her eyes. Roli continued to try to goet out of his firm hold. Finally, Siddhant realized what is happening and he let her go. They both didn't know what to say. Roli knew she had to introduce herself first, being the nurse. Hesitantly, she started to speak. "Hi. My name is Roli. I will be your nurse from now on." She waited for a reply from Siddhant. But he was still lost in her celestial voice. Roli repeated, "My name is Roli. I will be your nurse." Still no reply. Roli walked a little closer to him and waved her hands in front of his eyes to get him back from his deep thoughts. Siddhant finally came back to his senses and said "Huh?" Roli said, "I said, My name is Roli and I will be your nurse now." "Oh ok. Nice to meet you. My name is Siddhant." "So, Mr. Bharadwaj. Soon, there will be some people coming in to take your measurements to make a wheelchair for you." Siddhant didn't like that she called him Mr. Bharadwaj. "Why can't she just call me Siddhant," he wondered. Then he thought, "She's just my nurse. She probably calls all her patients like this. Why am I taking it so seriously?" But he still didn't understand why he was so upset over Roli not calling him by his first name. "Mr.Bharadwaj?" He heard her voice, which brought him out of his battle between mind and hear. "yeah. Sorry, I was just thinking of something," he said. "ok... so I said that some people will come to take your measurements for your wheelchair. In terms of my work with you, I still have to assess your situation. So, I will not be doing much today other than taking notes on your situation and talking with your physiotherapist about our plans." SIddhant didn't want her to talk to any physiotherapist. He wanted her to stay with him. Why? Even he wasn't sure. But he replied "ok". Even Roli wanted to just look at him and be around him. Even she didn't know what had come over her; but the feeling was oddly pleasing. She asked him if he needed anything, and then went and sat on the chair and opened the file again. While she was looking at the file, Siddhant started staring at her. Her face was so innocent. Her voice played over and over in his mind. Roli, on the other hand, was stuck in only two words in the file. She was on the first page, her eyes centered on SIDDHANT BHARADWAJ. The name itself made her lost. She was still thinking about how close she had got to him when she was about to fall earlier. She rubbed her wrist where he had grabbed her to save her from falling, and a smile came across her face thinking of the moment. Seeing her cute smile, Siddhant was smiling as well. He wanted her to come near him again, but how could he call her? He suddenly had an idea. He started coughing loudly. Roli immediately got concerned and rushed towards him. She put some water in a glass. With one hand, she held the glass to help him drink the water, while with the other hand she started patting on his back to relieve his coughing. On her sudden touch, Siddhant forgot all about his acting and looked directly into her eyes. They didn't know how long they had been staring at each other. Suddenly, they heard the door opening.
