Controversy may dog him -- from allegedly roughing up his lady loves to killing endangered species -- but there is no denying Salman Khan makes a great buddy.
rediff.com takes a look at five people whose life the star recently changed in the film industry.
Govinda
One of the most talented actors in the industry faded away, and there were no takers for this Hero No 1.
Some felt Govinda had become too big for his boots as he reportedly became notorious for his unpunctuality and for throwing his weight around on the sets of his films.
He tried his hand at producing with Sukh but it bombed at the box office. He was already written off when Salman came to the rescue. It is said that Salman helped Govinda bag films like Nikhil Advani's Salaam-E-Ishq, Priyadarshan's Bhagam-Bhag and David Dhawan's Partner.
'I wish I had met Salman Khan earlier in my life,' Govinda once said of Salman. Now, the two seem to be inseparable.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
If not for Salman, Sanjay Leela Bhansali may never have made his big hit Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Salman starred in Bhansali's debut venture Khamoshi. Unfortunately, it bombed despite great music and a good star cast that included Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas.
When Bhansali approached Salman for his next film, the star readily agreed. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was born, and the rest is history.
Since then, Bhansali has always been vocal about his support for Salman. In an episode of Koffee With Karan, Bhansali told host Karan Johar that he would pick Salman over Aishwarya Rai, when he was asked to pick between the two.
Bhansali's next film Saawariya will also see Salman playing an important role.
Himesh Reshammiya
'There are only three people I worship -- my father, god and Salman Khan,' says singer-turned-actor Himesh Reshammiya.
Salman gave the music director a break in 1998, when the film music scene was being dominated by the likes of Nadeem-Shravan, A R Rahman, Jatin-Lalit and Anu Malik.
Their friendship peaked when Himesh scored the music for Tere Naam, which became a stupendous hit.
The last film they worked in together was Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya.
Sajid-Wajid
Himesh, however, did not last long in Salman's favour.
Music composers Sajid-Wajid seem to have taken over from Himesh when they scored the music for the title track of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. The music was a big hit.
The duo have scored the music once again for Salman's Partner. In fact, Wajid has even sung the title song, Do you want a partner.
Atul Agnihotri
Atul Agnihotri's short acting career might have been the end of his career if it was not for his brother-in-law Salman, thanks to who Agnihotri's career got a new lease of life as a director. His first film Dil Ne Jisey Apna Kaha starred Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Bhoomika Chawla. It bombed.
But Atul has got yet another chance with Hello, a film based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, One Night at a Call Center. Salman has also put in a guest appearance.
It hardly comes as a surprise when Atul claims he will never want to make a film without Salman.
