I wasn't going to post anything but GanBarunFan coerced me into writing another sappy post and I am so happy she made me because now I am listening to some old blues music and loving it! Thanks Gan!

Walls and Windows

"Every healthy marriage is composed of walls and windows. The windows are the aspects of your relationship that are open to the world"that is, the necessary gaps through which you interact with family and friends; the walls are the barriers of trust behind which you guard the most intimate secrets of your marriage."
Elizabeth Gilbert

It is true that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, just one look at Raman and this saying rings loud in our ears and minds. Raman knows half the truth' perceived by him clouded by his past. It was a pleasure to see him fighting a battle between his heart and his mind. Reminds me of the time when he proudly prophesied to Ishita, 'When people fall in love, only the heart works and the rest of the organs fail'. How true and Raman being the prime example of the very idea that he prophesied. His mind knows that Ishita won't and can't cheat him but his heart having been bruised thinks otherwise. Puttar is in love and only listening to his heart, and our hearts don't always play fair! Raman is a product of his past but he doesn't have to be a prisoner of his past and I hope after this track we will see Raman finally heal and truly move on from his horrendous past.

What a beautiful way of depicting Raman being in the dark going through turmoil by shooting his monologue in the darkness of the night talking to his sleeping wife. Both in darkness not knowing where the other stands, both wanting to talk to each other but the ever lasting deafening silence of the night takes over. That entire scene reminded of the song Sawali si Raat from the movie Barfi.

Saawli si raat ho
khamoshi ka saath ho,
bin kahe bin sune, baat ho teri meri
neend jab ho laapata, udasiyan zara hata
khwabon ki razai mein, raat ho teri meri..

there be a slightly dark complexioned night,
and there be closeness of silence,
without saying, without hearing, there be talk between us..
when the night is lost, remove the sadness,
may there be a night of yours n mine in the blanket of dreams..

A husband so desperately wanting to take his wife in the blanket of his dreams, his dreams where there is no doubt, there isn't an ex playing the devil, there isn't a best friend making him feel little. There is a wife who is only his, his sole possession.

Even in his reality he wants to wake up his wife to ask or rather demand her to clear all his doubts. He believes that she can't cheat him but he wants to hear it from her mouth. His faith so strong on his wife that he asks his wife to get up and shut everyone up. He says, Utho Ishita aur sabko jawab de do, tum meri Ishita ho'. A husband knowing that his ex is playing games with his mind because he is till a prisoner of his past.

I still see progress in Raman and Ishita, Raman now accepts and wants Ishita to profess that she is his, he wants to be the only man in her life, he wants them to progress in their relationship. Ishita on the other hand has already accepted him as hers, she already knows Raavan is hers, and she must protect him at all costs. But as the saying goes, you reap what you sow. Ishra are reaping jealously, doubt and hurt because they never sowed communication.

If we were in a musical I would imagine Raman's character singing Stand by Me by Ben E. King.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

Ishita and Raman's marriage has it's walls and windows the problem is that rather than building the walls around their marriage they have build the walls around themselves exposing the intimacies of their marriage for the world to see. I hope they crumble those walls and start anew!

Doc.. Yet another crystal clear post.. Beautifully explained.. Walls and Windows..They have built walls due to fear of rejection, have only opened the windows to the other. Thats why one has only a selective vision of the other..
They need to open the doors.. doors to the heart and just let out..Communicate. bare their soul completely.no holds barred.
If they cant understand each other, no one else can..

Thank u so much for marking this post for me .. would have missed out on something sublime had i not read this ..

First of all on ur writing .. its so gentle .. it flows .. its very very very restive to read ur post ... but it does not lack in punch & power ... thats what makes ur talent really awe inspiring ..

Reminds me of the time when he proudly prophesied to Ishita, 'When people fall in love, only the heart works and the rest of the organs fail'. How true and Raman being the prime example of the very idea that he prophesied

You said it all with just this ... its beautiful .. & absolutely bang on ... yes admitedly the odds were stacked against Ishita .. he struggled & fought with himself did not want to believe .. it was a lovely war between the heart & mind ... but "Manisha" did him in ... the mind pushed the heart away & took residence ...

Once the promo is out the heart will truly break .. & once again Ishita will be left to patch the organ together ... beautiful .. u have me as a regular stalker .. could u pls PM when u post .. i am actually scared to venture out into the forum these days 😉

What an analogy of windows & walls & how apt!!!! You put it to brilliant use drawing parallels to Ishra's life!! I also loved what you said "they are reaping jealousy because they never sowed communication"!!! Simply brilliant!!!

wow! I'm so glad you got over the unnecessary stuff and wrote about the diamond that you always find in the episode.. That's why I requested you to write ... A lot of things technically went wrong yesterday... But the core of it was not wrong and that needed celebration ... Acknowledgement from someone like you who I know always gets the beauty of the relationship and can express so beautifully ... Because the strength of this story is the relationship of Ishita and raman and till that is not compromised ... I can live ( and occasionally rant 😆) with the CV s creative liberties .

I'm so glad you wrote.. I loved every bit of it so will not quote the parts that I call magical hue...as every word has a touch of that today..

.I cannot express as well as I would love to about the episode and then I chanced upon your writing here one day... It resonated so much with what my heart felt, I've been a fan of yours Doc since that day... I love to read lovely thoughts ... And yours never fail to make me stop, ponder and reflect upon what you wrote... That's what I love about your writing

Hope I made sense... To groggy to write coherently .. But you get me.and I know will not judge me if it is not 😉
It's 5 am here and I'm lying in bed with my iPad to respond.. Hoping not to wake my Raman up😆.

Thank you darling for doing this for me.. 🤗

Thank you for such a beautiful and thought provoking post. I'm usually a silent member, because I don't usually get the time to sit down and write down my thoughts regarding this amazing show, its characters and the equations these characters share with each other.

Since the entry of Mani in the show, I have seen a lot of turmoil on the forum and to some extent I can understand why, but my perspective regarding this track is a bit different from most people, which is why I absolutely love this post of yours, because its quite close to what my perspective is regarding the current track. Lets keep aside the treatment of this track on one side for the moment, because like you said in the post, the treatment is not what's important, its the intention.

When Ishita and Raman got married, their priority was 'Ruhi', it didn't matter if they had anything in common or they trusted each other or not, they had tied themselves to each other for Ruhi's sake.Their relationship to each other was that they were Ruhi's Ishima and Papa. That was the first phase of their relationship/equation.

The next phase or turning point of their relationship was after Amma's accident track was introduced, the forum was in a lot of turmoil then too, because that track was all about 'Adi'. But in the end that track helped in making both Raman and Ishita realize, that they at least need to talk and communicate where their kids are concerned, so they became friends, for their kids sake, which is when their relationship turned from being just Ishima and Papa, to becoming Ruhi's parents.

And now this track, where Mani has been introduced, is to make Raman and Ishita realize, not just about their feelings for each other, it is more about them realizing how important it is for them to communicate with each other as couple, because they are not just Ruhi's parents anymore. They want to be more, they want to be husband & wife, they want to have real marriage, but you can't have a real marriage, unless and until you talk and share your fears and insecurities. Its like them wanting to immerse themselves in the rain, without getting wet. It is not possible. The reason why I have brought up this example of rain, because it reminds of a scene and conversation during the accident track, where Ishita is sitting on her couch in their room and she opens the window to feel the droplets of rain on her face, and soon Raman joins her and they talk about about the rain and its importance in their lives and both vow to themselves that someday soon they will tell the other what is in their heart, that they would wait for that day, for that rain of emotions and trust to happen in their lives. This track would make that day come sooner then later, where they will pour their heart out to each other and learn how to communicate, to trust and to let go of their past once and for all.

So true Swathi! They need to open the doors to communicate! How I wish that day comes soon!! You know it's so funny that both are hurting thinking the other doesn't understand them but do they understand themselves? They are yet in the process of understanding who they are and what they want from life.

Thank you Ruby for your very very kind words, I will PM you for sure. I like broken hearts and I was telling Gan i like men who are men enough to shed tears, there is something terribly attractive when a rough and tough guy like puttat exposes vulnerability! My heart races when I see a vulnerable Raman. Don't know the reason but it just does.
And Ishita will mend his heart and how! That lady is epitome of understanding, and she has so much love to give that she can heal a nation!
