I didn't understand exactly where you're disagreeing. You're saying you're unable to come to terms with terming a 'conceived baby' (I take it you mean foetus here) as 'entity', well that's what I'm saying ain't it, 'foetus' is not a 'separate entity'.

Moreover, I never said that smoking during pregnancy is justifiable but rather it's an irresponsible act on the expecting mother's part.

Agreed that if taken out of the womb, it will not survive but for that matter even a new born child if left alone and not taken care of, will not survive. 😕 Human child needs attention till he/she is old enough to take care of, does that mean that, that child is not a separate entity? 😕

Also, I agree that the foetus doesnt cry but it definately eats whether through nutrients transfer through blood. Actually there is a yolk inside the sac which is holding the baby from where the foetus gets its food and energy to grow. By the time a lady is preg 6-7 wks, foetus has a heart which beats, so in that sense it is a seperate entity. Right?

A newborn will survive for a certain period even if no one takes care of it, a foetus can't do that. So, I'll still say it's not a separate entity unlike a newborn.

Wrong. Even if we consider the transfer of nutrients through blood as eating, what about respiration, excretion and such things which will support it as an individual, a foetus can't do that.

but that debate was about partial birth abortions where an abortion is done in the third trimester. and yes i can survive at that point if taken out of the womb. and eating.........you just described it!

it may not be separate but it definitely is living. you can't deny that.

But smoking is 🤢🤢🤢 and smoking during pregnancy is 🤢🤢🤢 and 😡😡😡, just like Mythili said.

I think abortion is better when the child is not going to have good nurturing and upbringing. But I don't think we can compare that and the choice of smoking. The lady who cannot quit smoking for her child, what good is she going to give to the child once s/he comes in the world? Her husband/boyfriend/child's father should try their very best to stop this thing from happening and if nothing, I don't think they deserve to be parents. 🤢

there are a lot of ppl out there who do not deserve to be parents. unfortunately we cannot do anything about it. here's a thought.....how about giving some sort of punishment if a woman is found to be smoking or drinking during pregnancy.
