My point was that the idea behind the concept of only have the women pray and fast for her husbands long life was unfair, it would have been better had it been both. I think it is sweet how a lot of men nowadays do that as well. My point was about the concept behind it and that it doesn't work both ways, also that most women fight about equality especially right now when there are a lot of issues regarding how females are treated right from their birth. It would be fair if there was a new tradition created (no rule against creating a new tradition which many men have already) where men did the same for their wives.

Oh and I also said in my original post that both the cheating parties (man and woman) are equally responsible. Boney, Dharmendra and Raj Kundra are all despicable people.

It should be possible to have discussions on cultures & traditions without it being seen as a way to hurt others & what they stand for. I truly believe that our fellow IFlers do understand where you were coming from, as your pov was not meant as a criticism toward anyones beliefs & choices. It didnt read as a sneer made at anybodys freedom of choice imho, and I completely agree with you. 🤗

I also understand why this could be a sensitive issue, as fellow IFlers might be tired of the fact that, there is more often than not a judgement against those who chose to follow certain traditions, be it this one or another.😳

On another note, it is true that the cheating men should not get a pass. Nobody can "steal" a man. There is something called free will, they use it with no qualms when it suits them. There is no reason why the women should be labelled Jezebels & the men can escape public blame 😳😛

I agree. Karva chauth for me is a difficult tradition to wrap my head around. I find it unfair when one spouse is expected to do some sacrifice without reciprocation.

That does not mean I disrespect everyone who willingly keeps the tradition. Even people who support these traditions know that some women are forced and some husbands take them for granted. Traditions can evolve to a happier middle ground.

I wish people didn't take questioning of tradition literally and negatively.
