I'm a huge fan of Rani's acting, that woman is so talented, man. I must say, to me Rani is Bollywood's finest actress. Whatever role she's done, she made sure to be natural each time. It doesn't feel like she's acting, especially in Mardaani. Parineeti mentioned it many times in her interviews that Rani is the one actress who's done it all and who can pull off everything and boy; was she right. She can do serious roles, kickass, funny and quirky, natural, romantic, dark, action. She has such immense screen presence. and I hope I'm not exaggerating when I say this but I don't think there's anything that Rani cannot pull off. Yes, she may not have the perfect body or height to pull off model roles but that's the only thing that she would lack.. but in terms of acting, she is the best.
She made me cry, she made me laughđ "Arrey someone please take Sir's wife to shopping", "Uska kiska?" when she talks to the school's principal,
"-You want me to be an informer, right? - Rani: "You're very smart, huh?" đ
"Please please, Sir speak in Hindi, I don't understand."đ
or when she spits at Waltđ
She acted so cool without trying too hardđ She surprised me in Mardaani! It was subtle, yet hard hitting and not over the top. The body language was SO on point, she owned Shivani Shivaji Roy. She pulled it off so convincingly well. Even the lingo/cussing or all the scenes with the crime branch team and all the men around her, it didn't feel outta the place or it didn't seem like she tried really hard to be cool like a man or like a hero. It was natural. Most people thought her performance during the climax was the best, and I kinda agree but then again, even during the first half it was so good.
And something that I criticized many times is this one famous acting that is typical for Hindi cinema: They tend to nod and move their heads a lot when acting.. especially in serous/sad scenes. Like for example, Bebo, Rani and especially Bipasha do that. I don't know if you've ever noticed but many times they nod and nod and nod while acting and that annoys me.. too much head shaking which irritates me and it gets repetitive. And when some actors speak in English, it sounds too mechanical, as if they're reading the lines from the script.. and Rani has done that a couple of times, too. But even that she didn't do this time. Her English lines were really natural and not forced this time, as well.
Hoping that she grabs all the awards next year. đ If not her, Kangana is the most deserving, too.
