songs where the spoken and the sung flow into each other. easy to go flat there. 'agar tum kaho' is one song that comes to mind, but even better 'kuchh dil ne kaha' from anupama. almost a thought rather than a song.

I always thought 'Ek hi khwab kai baar' from Kinara was a very beautiful and a very tough song... Perhaps because its one of those criteria that Vanaja pointed out... the spoken and the sung flow together giving it a story effect!

I also think that funny or comic songs are very very tough to sing as playback... perhaps because you have to express the comedy just by your tone and nothing else! extremely difficult, isnt it?

On funny songs, I think they can also be tough because they require the singer to understand the humour in the words. For non-Hindi speakers for instance, a song like 'Dil par hua aisa jadoo' (Mr and Mrs 55) would be hard because they would need to have a feel for the way the words are strung together. A breath in the wrong place could easily take the fun out of the song. Actually, this is even truer of 'Jaane kahan mera jigar gaya ji' from the same movie and many other Guru Dutt songs.

nice topic!

sonu has sung some of the incredibly difficult songs..almost seems he (and music directors) have to insert difficult parts in an moderately difficult/easy songs!

difficult songs that comes to mind:

1. fiza......... starting is v difficult
2. allah ke bande
3. oodling song parts
4. sau dard hai..
etc

not every one can perform these..

kumar sanu sang far more easier song..beautifully...
so does udit most of the time..
but both are capable of singing many kinds of songs...

most songs by krishna, himesh R, kailash and others are v difficult for others to sing.. simply because of high range and high pitch they have...doesnt mean that they are better than others...

mostly what happens is that, higher pitch sounds better if song within range...even though any song can be sung by lowering pitch!

there are songs that are pleasing to hear with udits voice and others by kailash's voice..!!

there are 2 notes, singers notes twisted and stuff and straight..singers tend to modify/twist/produce harkateins even if its not needed in live performances......mixing these can be incredibly tough

sonu seems be able to all kinds of songs -justice...
though i like shaan and udit much more!

i agree, sonu is the best around right now... one of my personal favorites is rabba mere rabba from mujhe kuch kehna hai 😊 he has sung it such beautifully 👏 and it is not an easy song... he sounded just so awesome - i feel it is sonu at his best... many people have attempted this song but have just ended up no where near the original...

both funny and sad songs are difficult to sing ...
and ofcourse so are Himesh R's songs ... only he can sing them with the same 'effect' 😆
and no i am not joking here 😊
very serious ... i kinda like 'aashiq banaya aapne' and 'jhalak dikhlaja' 😊

and jaya ... i agree with u 200% on 'ek hi khwab' ... such a beautiful song and sung/spoken so beautifully by bhupinder
another 2 songs that come to my mind are 'mera kuch saaman' and 'katra katra' from ijaazat ... different moods and sung so wonderfully by asha bhonsle ...

some A R Rehman songs ...
'tu hi re' from bombay , 'nahi saamne' from taal, 'satrangi re' from dil se, 'tanha tanha' from rangeela, 'chandralekha' from thiruda thiruda (chor chor in hindi?)
