PART-5
If Kalpana was awake in one part of the city, then sleep was far away from Raghav's eyes too in the other part. Kalpana had found solace in her mother's lap, who was busy writing necessary things to be ordered in bulk for her restaurant. Kalpana had come there, requesting Kamla to let her sleep with her. Sitting on diwan in the living room, she let Kalpi keep her head in her lap and stroked her head, allowing her to welcome a relaxed sleep.
But Raghav was not so lucky; his Mom had slept early as usual. She had recovered from her illness but her nervous system was still weak so she needed more sleep and rest than before. Like Kalpi he too had gone to his Mom, but seeing her fast asleep he returned to his big bed only to lay wide awake and watch out of the window, staring at nowhere. He could not understand how he felt the same when Kalpi's body was so close to his after so many years. He was an actor and he had romanced many heroines on screen, maybe appreciated beauty of many of them also.
When he pulled her close to his own body in that hug, he could tell that the dormancy of his complex emotions was breaking at the feel of her soft, curvy body to his own hard one. For so many years he had convinced himself that he had not forgotten her because he wanted to avenge what she'd done to him; what no one else could dare do to Raghav Singhania. No one else could dare to insult Raghav like this; no one else could shout at Raghav like this, not even his own Mom, because in his growing up years his Mom was too busy taking care of the business his father had established with his hard work. She was busy in maintaining the name of Singhania Empire, a name which her husband had established, she was busy in not letting her children feel any difference in their financial conditions; and the rest of the time she was busy in making up for the time she lost as a mother; she would scold them, but never was hard on them.
Kalpana was always an exception though, ever since she was a child; she opposed him, fought with him & gave him back equally what he gave to her. Her eyes showing care for him only for first few days of their formal acquaintance, but ever since their first fight her shiny eyes did not show anything except hatred and anger. But one night eight years ago had changed a lot between them, changed his feelings for her and today when he felt her feminine body fitted so well in his own muscular frame, touching him all over; the memories and feelings of that night eight years ago suddenly came alive.
It was supposed to be another tension filled day and night for him and Kalpana both, just like other days except that it ended very differently.
"I don't know why Mom is so fond of this girl. She always imposes her on me when she knows very well we both hate each other" Raghav was thinking as he walked to the parking to bring his car. It was raining very hard all day in Mumbai, flooding most of the roads. It was last but one' day of Raghav and Kalpana's play in the city and only one more day was left for its last show. "Just one more day and we won't have to tolerate each other" he thought "If it was not for Kamlaa Maa, I would have never helped her. I don't know why she wants to go into acting when she is so brilliant in academics. Does she have to do and be in every that thing, which I do?" He knew that Kalpana was about to complete her B.Sc Management with Entrepreneurship' this year; and going by her study record it would not be difficult for her to find a good job, or even scholarship for future studies and she even had the capability to establish her own business in future. But no, damn girl had to make a career in acting and follow his footsteps again. He was shocked when one day his Mom had told him to introduce Kalpana to his play group. It turned out that Kamla Maa had wanted Raghav to help Kalpi achieve her dreams; she wanted Raghav to be her guide & mentor in her first steps towards her goal. "If you'd be around Kamla would be satisfied Raghav, she'll not worry for Kalpi" Mom had said. Raghav had argued a lot against this, unaware that even Kalpi had fought from Kamla Maa & she too was against taking Raghav's help. But their Moms had again brought them together & Raghav had no choice but to bring Kalpi as a new member of their play group. It was almost one year now and Kalpi was managing both her studies and professional plays quite well.
"We'd managed quite well until we were paired together in the modern adaptation of famous novel Pride & Prejudice', I don't know what the director had seen in our pair. Whatever it was though, we were a hit pair, with audiences coming in theatres to see just our pairing; most of them being youngsters".
Then that night before of their last show happened, the night which changed so many things between them. That night he was given the duty of dropping Kalpi safely to her home by Kamla Maa and his Mom, as it was already dark and heavy rains were not helping the conveyance anymore. After taking the car from parking, he'd brought it to a stop, albeit unwillingly in front of an almost wet Kalpi, who was struggling with her umbrella which it seemed to him, had turned upside down & as a result broke with the winds. She was wearing black leggings and spaghetti -lemon kurti with a matching stole. Despite her best efforts she was unable to protect herself from rain water and was completely drenched by the time Raghav had reached her with his car. Her light colour kurta was almost sticking to her like a second skin, revealing her beautiful figure. "Hell, now I have to deal with a wet Kalpi also. Of all the days she'd to look so sexy today"; "wait, what am I thinking, chuck it. I have to drop her to her home as soon as possible so that I reach my own home in time" and he'd avoided looking at her after that. To Kalpi he seemed rude, arrogant & unwelcoming, because he'd always been like this with her: rude and insulting; always giving her lectures on working hard on her acting skills, dialogue delivery and what not; that her light dusky complexion made her unfit for the traditional lead roles, except of course this one which they were playing. Of course he did this deliberately, and she reacted on it because she was used to it by now.
Going by this fight record of theirs, she'd never in her dreams imagined the real reason behind rudeness of Raghav when he opened the door of passenger seat for her without as much giving her one look; and continued to drive like this.
