Both are great actresses but I prefer watching Kajol onscreen more.

Kajol definitely had a charm and unique style even while enacting out the loud OTT characters.I started appreciating her more after Pari Chopra's entry to BW and when I realised how hard it is for me to like/connect to the same loud tomboyish characters Kajol essayed when Ms Chopra plays them. Not to mention even with her boisterous image and lack of grace,Kajol had amazing chemistry with her costars..never made it look like her male leads are romancing boys(unlike PCee jr)😆

Rani is more versatile and a better dancer though.

Offscreen I cant stand Rani AT ALL.Kajol is arrogant and brash but her confidence is refreshing and honesty is endearing.I like how she has conducted her personal life.Giving up career at ur peak yrs.(24:O) and then bringing up ur kids with utmost dedication..She always worked according to her own rules.Amazing guts,

The thing I love about both Kajol and Rani is they cannot dance to save their life, they have average looks, both cannot do glamour or fashion even with help. Their figures are umm...moving shall we say in size. In short everything extra you would like in an actress does not apply to them. If you like them, it is strictly because of the acting. They are the primary example of why a generational starkid sometimes works spectacularly though Tanisha is an example of why not.😲.

That said, Kajol is my favorite. She is not very versatile, has a limited filmography, she does not have a land mark role like a Barfi or a Black in her career and her career has always been second to her. But what makes her exceptional and my favorite to me is this. She takes these small and unremarkable roles and makes it memorable just by acting. With a unibrow or bad fashion, the movies show their age in the beginning, but the minute you see her act, you forget it.

For such a loud person, she also has the ability to act in silence and make it speak volumes. Like the infamous gazebo scene in KKHH. The test of a true actress comes to me in the ability to share a screen. SRK can romance a stone, but what makes her and SRK so special is the films are unremarkable by themselves, he has made better films with most, but it is the sheer presence of the two of them that makes mediocre memorable.

For someone who is married, she is honest and authentic in her acting especially in romance movies. Though most people would root for the SRK/Kajol jodi in KKHH, she was able to make it so that if she had got with the Salman character, most would have liked it too. Incredibly, she had chemistry with both in the same movie, Two people who have incredible screen presence and drown most co-stars.

Speaking of chemistry, Aamir rarely has chemistry with costars. He tends to dominate the screen not by presence but by acting. He rarely shares. I was absolutely shocked to see him have chemistry with Kajol in Fanaa. Kajol is an authentic, honest performer who has elevated mediocre films to timeless because of her acting, nothing else and that is why she is my favorite.

And here ends my verbal diahorrea/essay of the day😆

Rani can dance very well. 😔

Of course kajol's popularity is limited to india forums only. That is why every actor worth his salt from Big B to srk, aamir to hrithik are completely in awe with her talent. Of course no one will remember her 20 years down the line, that is why she is a regular in every list of indian's all time greats and is the favourite of today's top actresses right from kareena, katrina or a priyanka. And more hilarious is the claim that she did not took risks. She played a negative character in gupt way back in the 90's when even heroes used to balk at the idea of playing a villain. She broke every convention of how a hindi film heroine should be, outshone her costars onscreen, and being gutsy enough to marry at her peak and let go of everything. As an actor, she was only active for very few years and did far lesser movies, yet she will always be remembered as one of India's finest ever.

The more versatile actress is Rani hands down. She's taken up the more challenging roles and has succeeded.

Kajol has decent films to her name, but she's overrated in a lot as well.

My votes goes to Rani.
