Abhishek Bachchan will work with Vivek Oberoi, whom his wife Aishwarya dumped for him, in the multi-starrer Istanbul. Since that time, Abhishek has hardly met or interacted with Vivek. On the other hand, Vivek was also uncomfortable working with Abhishek in Mani Ratnam's Guru and so was replaced by Madhavan in the movie to avoid discomfort on both sides.
Lakhia actually had both of them in Shootout... also , but not together. Abhishek's guest appearance in the movie was for scenes in which Vivek was not present. "Apporva wanted to work with Vivek once again, after Shootout, but he wasn't sure how Abhishek would respond to this," said our source.
And so when he approached the actor with the Istanbul script, he did not mention the Vivek bit. "When he went to Abhishek with the idea, he liked it very much and agreed to do the role, not knowing who else would be in the film," said the source. Later, when Lakhia told Abhishek of the plan to have his wife's former boyfriend as his costar, the actor was circumspect.
"Apoorva assured him that he would handle the situation and that he wouldn't allow the media to sneak onto the sets and cook up a scandal," the source said, "and Abhishek agreed to go ahead."
Istanbul is a film on terrorism and will be shot in Afghanistan, Srinagar, Mumbai and of course in Turkey. If shoots in Afghanistan are not possible, the area will be recreated in Jaisalmer for those portions of the film, it is learnt.
The film begins shooting in October and will be produced jointly by Suniel Shetty's Popcorn and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji. The female lead of the film is yet to be decided.
Lakhia refused to speak about the cast of the film.
