Kick will go over the 200 crore nett mark today becoming the first film to hit 200 for a first time director but that does not really say much as the 200 crore mark will be nothing in ten years time and ten years back there was no 200 crore when other directors may have made their debuts.
What puts it into perspective is that no first time director in the history of Hindi cinema has ever directed the highest grossing film of the time but there are three debut directors that have directed the second highest grossing film of the time.
The first was Sooraj Barjatya in 1989 with Maine Pyaar Kiya which became the second highest grossing film ever after Sholay. The second was Aditya Chopra in 1995 with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge which became the second highest grossing film ever after Hum Aapke Hai Kaon and now Sajid Nadiadwala will join that elite list as Kick becomes the second biggest grosser ever to Dhoom 3 in a few days time.
Legendary director Manoj Kumar directed the third highest grosser of the time Upkar as debut. In years to come first time directors will hit 300 and 400 crore nett but what is important is where that number stands in the bigger picture and that is where Sajid Nadiadwala has scored with Kick as not many have or will have the second highest grossing film of the time as a debut.
