I agree with you. girl discrimination still happens at places in India. some still thinks if couple has ONLY girl/s then, they are not blessed by God.
My school friend and she had 2 sisters. Her parents were never unhappy for it, but other relatives were. like her Grandma, Grandpa taunted her parents whereas praised other son who had 2 sons. true story. today, these girls are Doctors and her cousins don't even have a degree to call their own. now everyone comes & butter up my friend & her sister saying, Girl child is a blessing. Such a hypocrite world. 🤔
I would love to see a movie on similar lines, Girl making big on her own. proving it to all those hypocrites & at the end, walks away disowning such people. to be with those who appreciates her, celebrates her, values her.

In my family, its just me and my sister. In my room-mates household, its just 3 daughters too. I've never really faced discrimination of such in the USA. Never heard anyone talking about it in India either. But that is not the case for some people. I agree with all you said.

Watch Zindagi Gulzaar hain on Youtube CPR. It has every element you want to watch in a female-centric film. It's a drama though.
It's about a strong woman, raised by her mom, making her own place in the world and her struggle against the patriarchal framework of society. It's brilliant.

Honestly I love those movies like AStitiva or Queen where the woman chooses herself and not to go back to any man. I mean BW films in general take agency away from women. Most of them act like damsels in distress and a man comes to their rescue. I read an interesting article once about how many Indian girls have this unhealthy Cinderella syndrome, where they think being weak and dependent on men is ok b/c their BW prince charming aka man to rescue will come and "save" them and being dependent on them is a romantic type of love.

I'm all for woman power but these films don't always need to revolve around love. Like a woman can be single, sexual active and making and taking her own decisions without peer pressure or societal worries. That be nice to watch.

This I absolutely agree with. I loved the film LCMD. It was a very powerful film, but it didn't so well. It showed the power of a woman, but it portrayed Rani's character as a 'bechaari' who had to stoop to the level of undignified things.

LCMD was a crap movie , very poor script ... u dont feel rani's character's pain , ... infact reasoning to choose that profession was not good enough ... she was a depressing soul in the movie

u watch old movie Aaina with mumtaz in lead , LCMD was a copy of that movie and that one was superb ...Mumtaz's character was so strong ...

I disagree. It was not a crap movie. It was a GREAT movie that just didn't have enough for the audience to connect with it. Rani nailed her character and I for one could def feel her pain throughout the entire film.

As far as the older movie you're talking about, I haven't seen it. Would love to soon though.

However, that isn't the type of film that I want to see. A girl shouldn't have to stoop down to doing things like prostitution to fend for her family. We women are better than that.
