Disclaimer: Other than 7 years of training in Bharatnatyam & 2 years in Bollywood, I don't have as much knowledge as the respected judges. No matter how biased they may be at times, they def know a ton more than I do. So this post is no insult to the judges or those individuals who have immense dance knowledge. I'm going to simply put my view forward. Also, I don't give out 10's easily. 😛 And I judge classical dance forms on a more stricter basis since that is the form that I can connect with more and the form that I'm most experienced with.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Shakti & Tushaar: I loved how they started off slow and ended with a fast beat song. Once again it was amazing seeing Tushaar out of his comfort zone and doing energetic songs. And Shakti...well Shakti is Shakti. Full on energy and what a performance. Hats off.
Score: 9
2) Karan & Bhavna:My god! Karan! I remember his first performance which was strictly average! What a long way he has come. What amazing improvement he has made. He's had it the toughest having 3 different choreographers. With a new choreographer you have to adjust a lot and be on a comfort level with them. I am not a huge Bhavna fan personally, but today this duo killed it. And being a Karan fan I am so so so proud of his big improvement.
Score: 9
3) Malishka & Her partner: Didn't expect much from her. This may be a bit harsh, but I didn't like her performance at all. Couldn't feel the chemistry. The focus was a lot of the lifts. The lifts were shaky. And the classical section was off in terms of posture and correct mudras. A huge disappointment, but then again I didn't expect much from her anyways.
Score: 6.5
4) Mouni & Punit: Before I say anything about the dance itself, I LOVED this theme. Manish & Madhuri are always so cute and what a perfect day to give a tribute to Manish - on his birthday. So hats off for the amazing concept. As far as the dance, it was really nice. I'm no Punit fan cause of personal issues, but today both Mouni and Punit killed it. I loved the way Mouni danced today. Of course Madhuri is Madhuri, but Mouni gave it a good try. Lovely.
Score: 9
5) TJ & Jack: Oh Jack. I love you. I think they were AMAZING! Their chemistry was awesome! Their theme was common, but beautifully portrayed. The expressions were bang on: Jack's expressions showed his disinterest in the girl and TJ's expression showed sadness and grief. TJ's who dance was mindblowing. Kudos to the girl to lip-synch a Hindi song! I love her effort.
Score: 9.5
6) Kiku & Kruti: Very interesting dance theme. Very well executed. I love Kruti as a dancer. She's fabulous. I never liked 'Palak'. I thought she was really annoying. It's nice to see Kiku in his original avatar. It's always good to see his effort in dancing. He has a lot of work to do, but he's giving it his best shot. So hats off.
Score: 8
7) Akshat & Vaishnavi: Ahh finally the first full on classical dance I have seen on Jhalak. From the outfit to the dance form, everything was classical about it. I know I opened up a thread earlier about the mudras being off by Akshat. I stand by the same opinion. His mudras were off and he went off in expressions on certain places too. But the fact that he did this, went out of his comfort zone, and did a fairly decent job is beyond commendable. And Vaishnavi...sheer brilliance. She killed it!
Score: 7.5
8) Kushal & Mohena: Mohena is a beautiful dancer. I enjoyed seeing her parts. Kushal - well I could see his struggle. He wasn't as confident. He gave a good effort though. Wish him all the best in the future.
Score: 7
9) Sophie & Deepak?: The concept was nice. I think they focused a bit too much on the lifts. The dance was beautifully executed, but nothing that really took my breath away. Sophie is a great dancer and has shown great dances on the stage. This was okay-ish in comparison to her other dances on Jhalak.
Score: 8
10) Ashish & Shampa - I loved their outfits. Shampa is a really good dancer & choreographer. I loved their act. Really nice to see Ashish attempting classical. It wasn't a perfect attempt, but it's hard to get classical on the first try. His attempt was commendable.
Score: 8
11) Lauren: For a non Bollywood person, this girl is beyond phenomenal. Her performance was amazing. Enough said.
Score: 9.5
The episodes were nice, but I felt it was more focused on utter nonsense by Akshay and Kareena. Too much screen space to the celebrity guests when this show is supposed to be about the contestants. Having celebrity guests is really nice and I personally love it, but the focus of the show shouldn't really shift.
Manish: 100000/100000! I love this guy. Happy birthday! The birthday celebration was too cute.
My most favorite theme: Classical. But not performed by the contestants that can actually excel in it. So that was disappointing. But Ashish & Akshat tried their best and did fairly well for attempting classical for the first time.
